Got my first basic detail scheduled for this Saturday! I was doing a free detail with my gfs aunt and their neighbor came to ask.
I have watched endless paint correction and detailing videos, I am doing my first correction tomorrow. This video has definitely renewed my confidence, thanks Scott.

My 93 year old Father in-law has a white 2000 Buick Regal that hasn't been washed or cared for in years... I took the challenge. I washed the vehicle, (twice), I decided I would clay bar the vehicle right before using the cutting compound. I clayed and used the Ultra cut compound on the hood in four sections and it went O.K. I changed the pad and clayed and "cut" the trunk lid, it too went well. My situation occurred when I left the trunk and went to the roof I forgot to use the clay bar on my first section... I stopped, cleaned it up, and began to clay the roof. Returning to My Polisher and cutting compound the polisher was jumping around and the compound was caking and very difficult to remove... I didn't know what was going on at first but I figured it out: The pad was filthy and need to be cleaned, just one small section without claying and it gummed up the works. KEEP THOSE PADS CLEAN!
100%agree pal great vid for the new guys 20yrs ago we had to figure this out on our own. Lead by example and keep up the info for them I don't know how to make these vids otherwise I would try it out my self but with guys like you they are in good hands. I watch because you never know what you still might learn what you didn't know. After 52yrs on this planet every day is a new day to learn. Have a Toy Prius v with the acrylic (non-opening) roof panels. There appears to be no scratches or swirls, however, wanted to get your advice, Scott. Should I even think about polishing it or just wash, clay and perhaps use some Meg's Xpress Wax? I know the paint needs to be clayed so I'm relatively certain the acrylic roof will as well. Thanks in advance.
MAN this is great. If you don't understand what needs to be done first, your assumptions could be wildly off! 100% agree! More focus on prep to understand the rest. Been watching you and I'm attacking my '97 Toyota Land Cruiser that's been in the sun in AZ for 25 years! It's a MESS! But ... I did a hand test with 205, got about 30% out. Went to HF and bought the DAP you went over on your last video I watched. I will go through the wash, degrease, clay bar, 105, 205, polish, ceramic wax process. Don't care how long it takes and I may not do it like a pro (you!) but with the education you have provided I will have a nice looking finish. All in I am $150 on products including the DAP, serious paint correction on this truck in Phoenix is $800+. I'll take the chance on it for now. THANKS!!!

All this talk of clear coat, I have 25 year old single stage that looks totally flat. Even 1200 grit sandpaper improves the look of it. Let's talk about 25 year old single stage incredibly oxidized, NO reflection whatsoever, paint!

First time I started a mobile detail buisness I did 2 step so was cutting with 3M FastCut + on a DA and then a 3 in 1 POLISh so I could go quicker on a use-to-be black car.
Great logic Scott. Makes perfect sense. As a beginner tho. Why not offer a system of use with compounds. Meaning like you just did in this video showing how you would use Sonax, or Scholl concept, or meguiars, to start out test spots with what pads
this is the kind of info that people need and dont realise they are looking for. One of my issues is, yes people are clear coat chasers with fancy 50/50 shots on instagram, and thats bad obviously, but when channels like "whitedetails" starts every job with menzerna 400, it is confusing. Before i watched this video i already had it in my head that i should start with a very light cutting compound and pad and see how my bmws clear coat responds. "Whitedetails" made me think that was the wrong approach and i should hit it harder than that. I love whitedetails, but this video tells me what way i should be doing it.
These videos are good however all the valetors always do there work on a hood or panel that looks good to start with then a pass with the product and wow LOOKS HOW GOOD IT LOOK 🤔 it looks the same ! ,,,,,,,, your information is good tho am not shiting all over your video sorry

This has honestly got to be some of the absolute best car detailing DIY information that I have honestly come across in recent times. I really mean this. You were able to start to show me a better way of looking at this process instead of automatically assuming things based off of what so many others are saying as good advice. Can you mix meguiars compound and polish together and what will happen?
So if that took off 50% would you use 105 still or switch to diamond cut switch is 85 I believe

Hi Scott, I just bought my first polisher (Griots 6" DA). Can you tell me if the LC Light Cut Pad you started with will fit on the Griots 6". Also, What is, in your opinion a better product combo, the Meguiars 105/205 combo or the Menzerna 400/3500 pair. is there a significant quality difference between the 2 competing product pairs? griots 6 da comes with a 6 inch backing plate..in this video I'm using a 5 inch backing plate used with 5.5 inch buffing pads...so typically 6 inch backing plates are for 6 to 6.5 inch pads...you can get the lake country force pads for the 6 inch backing plates..Menzerna would be a better combo for someone new to paint correction..meguiars can dust more but i have a lot of time with 105 and 205

so, if a light polish like 205 on a white pad didn't quite get you there would you then step up to an orange pad with 205? Or go to a heavier compound on an orange pad?
Also, re: 105. The more I see of the Griot's stuff the more impressed I am. Starting with the white pad and Griot's Perfecting vs 205? Any thoughts on that?

In one of your videos, someone asked if you have Asperger. I can create many nicknames for this person, but that reduces me to his level. So what if you have Asperger? That's totally irrelevant for making your videos, doing what you're passionate about. If you don't like it, don't watch! My husband is watching a lot (really a lot) of your videos in the Netherlands. I myself do not have that much with car cleaning, but I think, based on what I'm listening to, you're one of the very few honest car cleaners. In the Netherlands we have a saying: "Just do it, you're doing crazy enough". So do the cleaning, making videos and testing products and let everyone talk, they are not worth your attention!

I'm in south Florida, bad enough hot and humid, but I've no garage, no shade for my truck, not even a driveway, just parked in it's assigned parking spot but within distance of a LONG hose and a LONG extension cord from my house.
So how is one to do all the necessary steps for my truck's paint care if rarely my truck has any shade within distance to my water hose and electricity?

I don't think anyone comes to Earth from Heaven to become a detailer voluntarily, this world is compared to a prison and practicing religion sincerely is the only way out of this imperfect temporary world. Can i use this product(Griots Boss Correcting Cream) for test spot? or should i use a lighter polish? like Sonax Perfect Finish or Meguiars M205? with White LC foam pad. Sorry for all this question(Newbie here) :D Thanks Scott again i hope you reply. Cheers!

Can we be practical about paint correction ! what about profitability ,making more money,getting the car knocked out!go,go,go .All the while you may screw up the customer's vehicle for sake of I took out all the scratches but all the clear is gone! But it is shinny and glossy! It's refreshing to see that there is a baby in the bathwater ,Thank you ! Would you say that 105 and 205 are the standard by which all the other compounds are created!
Scott I have watched a lot of your videos. Purchased a Harbor Freight da going to try on my CRV. Thanks for your honest videos. What I would like to see a car that has never been detailed dirty car. A watch the steps to do restore paint and polish. Not a test panel that is shinny already. Is it possible?
Absolutely the best advice for paint correction! I watched some others that are unfortunately super popular that suggested wet sanding scratches way to much and I listened and in a small section about half an inch squared took off my clear coat completely and was like shit I can't go back now... start out light! I'd rather have that scratch more visible then missing my clear 😕
can i use m205 and then ceramic coat the car ?

Whats the difference between paint correction and compound and wax a car? What is in the paint prep you use. I enjoy your videos and would love it if you put a list in your description of that products you use. In another video you used Griot's Garage Correcting Cream , I get lost in products you recommend

Hi, Scott, I have viewed several of your videos and really appreciate your down to earth personality and sense of humor. I'm new to the car detailing business and by new I mean, I haven't had a customer yet, I've been practicing on my own car and family members lol. I've been a Master Electrician my entire life and am also a youth pastor but due to severe back problems, I have had to find a supplemental source of income without the wear and tear duties of my profession as an electrician. I have always enjoyed cleaning cars and am a perfectionist by nature so I feel I can be a decent car detailer, the downside to that is I think I will pick out every small blemish and not be as profitable as possible. I really enjoyed your videos and subscribed to your channel. I've purchased some basic products and minor equipment to get better results but being new at this field I would like to have all of the essentials to give my customers the best-finished product as possible, this is going to take quite a while because I am on an extremely tight budget due to taking a leave of absence from my current job. I'm going to start with interior detailing, exterior washing and waxing and hopefully work my way into paint correction. I never realized there were so many steps to a fully finished exterior professional waxed vehicle. Any info you could share would be greatly appreciated. Also if it's not rude to ask, what is a good price to charge for interior detail, including vac, fully shampooed interior, dash/trim cleaning and treatment, windows, exterior wash, clay bar treatment, rewash, pre-wax glaze, sealant then finally finished waxed vehicle. I live in northern KY and when I Google prices they are all over the spectrum. I know this is a very lengthy personal comment but would really appreciate any info you could share you seem like a really nice and approachable guy. Like I said I'm a complete rookie at this so no information you could share would be too elementary.

I want to ask while doing paint correction, how do v get to know that a panel needs sanding first before compounding.
Coz in many videos i have seen people sanding the surface and then compunding and in some videos people directly use the compound with dual action polisher

What do you do on the edges and folds of the panles? Do you remove pressure from the rotart on those spots as to not burn the clear coat?
So after the test spot if you notice there is still about 60% scratches. Do I go back with a compound and do less passes or the same? Or do I go to another test spot?
For a beginner, is it ok for me to use this or stick to the shelf polishing compounds?
What is your determination factor for using 205 vs 105?
good tip 2 others reasons are you might not know how much clear is left and the other is you could make it easier by possibly starting on a lower step less follow up steps. thx good tip

Hey Scott what compound should a beginner like myself use on vehicle that's never been polished? It's a 2008 Black Ford F150 with plenty swirls and water spots. I've tried Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with little success. I got my hands full watching your videos 😂😂

Nobody starts agressive and after light. Everyone starts light and then go more agressive if needed.

Just wanna say that here in Puerto Rico is getting pretty busy on this call detailing and paint correction industry, i have a question can you mix different creams compounds and sealants without having any adverse reaction to each other..appreciated if you do make a video....thank and god bless

Did you actually wash and clay bar the vehicle? Windshield is filthy! But I get the point of the video...start light/least aggressive and see where you are so you know what needs to be done so you don't have to do more than is actually needed
i never wash the cars i do paint correction on...doesn't the polish clean the car:)
