Widespread Precipitation in Northern Areas of New Mexico 1-29-2025

Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. Light snow showers are spiraling through the region while starting to pick up slowly but surely in the West Mountains through parts of the Four Corners into the San Juan Mountains and periodically throughout the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, while clouds are on the increase elsewhere with mostly above-normal morning temperatures as some fog, as well as patchy freezing fog, is residing in extreme Southeast New Mexico. From the northern-mountain communities from the Four Corners through the San Juan Mountains to the Enchanted Circle, temperatures are higher than yesterday for more areas than not, mostly starting off in the upper single digits or as high as in the teens to the 20s in the northern valley floors, while elsewhere is ranging mostly from the upper teens to even the low 40s from northwest to southeast from high to low elevation. Winter weather will then become widespread later today in northern areas especially as the snow, rain, and colder air will arrive with the occasionally gusty westerly winds in western areas, while eastern areas will hold onto the easterly winds bringing in the low-level moisture, all while many southern areas will remain mostly dry. From the morning school commute throughout the afternoon, temperatures will mostly reach into the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and near 60 degrees from northwest to southeast from high to low elevation. Lingering precipitation will exit the region later tomorrow with a slow warm-up, but at the cost to stronger westerly winds that will arrive along the plains, the higher elevations, and down the eastern slopes of the mountains especially with some blowing dust, patchy blowing snow, as well as the elevated fire threat. The bigger warm-up with mostly drier air will arrive in full force later this week through the weekend, as well as into next week with record warmth for some eventually.
