    I have been collecting for 45 years this book has been really under graded dont worry about your reputation as long you are accurate and disclose any flaws in the books collectors will buy from you.
    My grade would be 7.5 or old school very fine.

    From what I can see, the book is a solid VF- (7.5) IMO. Your book appeared nicer than the sample My Little Margie at 7.0. I figured you'd have graded it no less than that.

    I'm surprised and happy to hear the ink marks aren't THAT big a deal. I have some otherwise very nice Batman 1980s keys -- the covers look good and crisp -- but the inner pages look a lot like this.

    Dan, you are still the man. Big jump from when I met you at Velvet Underground. Keep up the big work. I appreciate your dedication to the community as others have gravitated towards the profit of the hobby. Had this at a 7. Yeah this book needs a spine roll fix with an iron and a proper press might end up being a 7.5.

    A perfect demonstration of a professional grader, accurately grading a comic book.
    This is the standard all graders and grading companies should adhere to.
    It is also the way I grade comic books, because without accurate grading, there is literally no point in grading your books.

    After watching the video I have it at a 7.0 OW-W. But my grading standards are not quite as tough as yours!! If I was to buy a graded CGC 6.5 that looked like this book, I would be very happy with that purchase, but only because I buy the book not the grade. I have laughed at some books that are clearly over graded on auction sites that command a premium based upon the grade given , not the actual book inside.

    If you had a comic that was nice (9.0) but it had a miswrap where the Staples were on the back, what condition would it be? And where do you stand on penciled arrival dates versus inked arrival dates?

    • @livingdeadcomics
      @livingdeadcomics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Penciled arrival dates are not considered a defect and does not take away from the grade although personally I'm not a fan. As for the mis-wrap it depends on the severity of the wrap.

  • @Zsokorad
    @Zsokorad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Let's say a comic was pretty much perfect in every way except for a single defect, and that defect is listed in the 6.0 section of a grading guide. If you put your thumb over the defect, the book is an easy 9.8. Does the book automatically become a 6.0, or would the grade meet somewhere in the middle, such as 8.0? I understand how to spot the various kinds of defects, but I have a hard time with figuring out how far down the list the grade should go based on the accumulation of defects.

    • @livingdeadcomics
      @livingdeadcomics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The different sections of the book are showing different levels of grades and acceptable defects in those grades. Single defect on a perfect book does not drop the grade to 6.0 unless it is a serious defect "Missing piece" for example. Great question

    • @Just_Pele
      @Just_Pele 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I graded an Avengers 22 recently that was, for all intents and purposes, a 9.6, just gorgeous. BUT it had a 7/8" vertical tear on the bottom of the back cover. That automatically gives the comic a 5.5, and that's the grade I gave it. However, I usually give books like that a "split grade": in this instance a 5.5/9.6 (Q), with the "Q" meaning Qualified. If a grading service like CGC ever gets the comic, they'll grade it a Green label (Qualified) 9.6, but otherwise, strict graders would likely give it a 5.5.

    Reads notes on 6.5 grades-sees that the comic book being looked at has none of the 6.5 traits-gives it 6.5 score.
    This entitlement is what’s wrong with graders.
    Calls himself a “tough” grader.
