    Only Shona can do a „pregnancy“ video with education and cool tips instead of someone who’s onyl talking about the experience and „how they feel“. Sorry don‘t want to hurt somebody but I feel like Shona is soo creative and smart that I just love hearing/watching her! You‘re gonna be a great mom and I can‘t wait to hear your mummy story ❤

      thank you! and congratulations! :) It's a tricky one because it's so personal and can be such a triggering topic and often hard to get the full contextual picture. But thank you for the positivity :)

    Omg thank you for normalizing sleeping in separate rooms!! My husband and I decided to sleep separately a year ago after I struggle with sleep disorder for a year and it is the best decision I’ve made for my marriage even thought we get a lot of bad looks about it. Love your content and your honesty😍

    • @shona_vertue
      @shona_vertue  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      RIGHT?!! It's such a game changer. I love it so much. I agree. Why share farts and air and snores? I don't get it! Haha I understand if you're in a one bedroom house, but I don't think it's fair to shame people who choose to sleep seperately. Thanks for sharing. xx

    Also was preggo at 36 and bebe girl is 7 months now… not to do the mum advice thing but you and babydaddy sleeping in separate rooms will be your saving grace! 😴 have the best time in the final stretch, it truly is MAGIC what our bodies will and can do. Thanks for the honest post!

    Thanks for this Shona. Even as a 41yr old single, childless women I found that interesting. Your talks are always so well explained & captivating. I wish you both the best of luck! Oh and can I just say, that separate room thing, heck yes! More people need to do this & the shame be removed from it. It’s such a good thing for one another’s sleep & can even improve relationships

    Absolutely love your love for science and how you eloquently pair your personal experience with scientific research. Although I didn't necessarily need to watch this (I have 2 little boys and don't plan on anymore) I loved the episode and can't wait to see how you continue to share educational content throughout your pregnancy and especially as a new mum. There is so much misinformation and lack of awareness for what us women go through (hormonally, emotionally etc.) and I really hope with your platform and psychological background you can touch upon matrescence in the near future. As a neuroscientist myself I found the psychological impact of becoming a mother so interesting and incredibly overwhelming. If I could give one piece of advise to myself before becoming a mother for the first time, researching matrescence and the psychological changes associated with becoming a mother would've been top - less reading on what physical changes my body was going through and what size fruit/vegetable the baby was haha. All the best in your pregnancy and journey into motherhood!!

    I love hearing your personal stuff Shona! I am a late 20s girl who is feeling a LOT of pressure to get my life together in terms of finding a partner/have kids despite not really being ready. I really want kids one day, but also acknowledge this will likely occur later in my life if it does at all. I struggle with relationships a lot and would love to hear your side of things on this as someone who really admires you and finds you to have a real calming big sister energy.

      Thank you for sharing this message and of course. I would love to share more about relationships. I have been through some bad ones and it wasn't until I faced some key things that I managed to move through the issues. Justin and I were not smooth sailing in the beginning either - I just had to the work INSIDE the relationship. Late 20's is the PERFECT time (any time is perfect - but definitely a great and transformational time). Sending lots of love and I'll definitely share more info.

    Thanks for posting this, Shona, you made it pretty clear it makes you cringe sharing something so personal, but there is real value in it. You sound and feel more like a real person after this, and you are more relatable because of the problems you faced that a lot of us do as well. Also, seeing you overcome so many challenges makes it hopeful that someday I might also be able to do the same! ❤

I believe it is so hard to share this type of content, that being said- it’s so positive and educational, and thank you for that. I’m 40 and currently pregnant with my second baby, I gave birth to my first when I was 38. Ugh ... PCOS sucks so much. Honestly, all the food stuff, exercise stuff and stress reduction was KEY! As was peeing on sticks - but prepping my body was such an important part. The hardest part was coming off the retinol for the hormonal acne... I had so many break outs (but Alzaleic Acid came to the rescue). Sending lots of love on your journey.

    Love this! 🤍
    My husband and I did exactly the same thing to get pregnant, we were at our healthiest when we conceived.
    Also completely relate to eating less when stressed.
    I’m currently eating in a massive calorie surplus because, little did I know, breastfeeding uses up around 400-500 calories. From about 4 weeks postpartum ( for a 3 month period) I lost about 7kgs ended up at around 49kgs which is underweight for my height.

    Shona, would you be able to do a video for pelvic girdle pain and sciatica? I was so active before getting pregnant and at about 11 weeks PGP started for me. I can't go for walks anymore let alone train. The most I can do is about 50m before it becomes too painful. I've been to a yoga class but I couldn't do most of the moves because it hurt too much. Any tips would be so great! Loved this video 🎉 xx

I am such a loyal follower of your yoga videos, I love your approach to mobility and stress reduction and wellness, and you have such an intelligent, authentic, and playful attitude. OK so I don’t know if this is too personal to ask, but during that time of overtraining/undereating/PCOS/coming off the pill, did you ever lose your period? Love the long section on post-copulatory orgasms 🥳 "if you enjoy orgasms..." 😂 you're the best Shona.

      hahaha can you tell I felt so uncomfortable. I hate the idea that it creates false hope but at the same time... nothing bad is going to come from the O itself.

    Aww this was so lovely of you to share with us ❤ I totally did the orgasm thing and believed it worked for me! And I too made my partner at the time sleep in a separate room. I’m no good at sharing a bed. Congratulations to you both and looking forward to seeing bubba 😇

      Is the sleeping in a separate room and bed part of the post copulatory orgasm I am confused as f by it . I tried looking online for some information but it just says post copulatory links nothing about the orgasm so post copulatory is the act of intercourse so I'm not sure but I think it means to hold it for as long as u can and then at the end orgasm ?

      So in the study I shared in the description it talks about orgasm relating to sperm retention which was the variable these researchers were using as a marker of better changes to conceive. I had read somewhere (totally NOT a scientific paper) about contractions of the uterus during orgasm, supporting the opening of the cervix (I'm sharing that not because it's 'science' but because it's what got me on the journey of giving it a go). Sleeping in seperate beds was about sleep hygiene and better sleep quality, nothing to do with the seggs stuff.

    Hi Shona! Congrats on your pregnancy. I am still confused on Post Copulatory even with the resource attached 😭. Is it a conscious decision to orgasm? Leaving the sperm inside? Or co-mating with multiple partners?

    • @shona_vertue
      @shona_vertue  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiiii! Sorry i was so confusing and cryptic - it’s just because it’s so personal I felt awkward talking about it. Haha!
      It’s basically just having a clitoral orgasm, post sex (so basically while there is sperm present). It’s about enhancing sperm retention. Definitely not about having multiple partners.
      So basically when all is done, you would use a massager/vibrator of kind to induce (potentially another orgasm).
      It’s really not a ‘proven’ method. It’s just something I did alongside the other things. I just wanted to give you all the full picture. Haha.

    Oh what a lovley and inspiring video. I had a miscarriage with my ex fiance last October amd my body naturally told me to go from 7 years vegan into vegetarian and i had lost too much weight due to my ex mental health issues (depression, burnout & addiction to stimulants) during one year, so my coping mechanism was too much training and not enough of calories.
    A lot of trauma from the relationship caused stress on my whole system as the relationship crumbled.
    Side note: after 3 years of no protection at all (pull-out method) i became pregnant at the end of our relationship (why universe?!) and then, a few months after whenwe started having sex again while not being together (did a natural abortion). Why during our worst periods and not the good days?, is what keeps me up at night...
    Today i eat more calories, vegeterian and gained my weight back, less cardio and more slow ans heavily lifting and ahorter workouts.
    Just hoping for Mr Non-avoidant to show up and charm Miss Anxious A.S because my uterus had veen screaming for pregnantée* for a few a couple of years now.
    So happy for you and your partner! Thia gives me some hope
    🙏🏽
    Thank you for fantastic content and fun mix of science & humor. ❤

      oh my love. I have all the feels with this message. Thank you for being so vulnerable with this. Something that I learned was that avoidants actually hold the key to a deeper part of my wound - and that rather than run away from the trigger, I should learn from it and use it as an opportunity to practice the thing that scared me most. I'm speaking a bit cryptically, but I will talk about it on the podcast in more detail. I have a theory that in our search for a 'secure' partner that we are running from a fear, that actually needs to be addressed, not shamed. Thank you so much for the message.

    I think its wild when people are TTC but dont use OPKs. Some even say ”according to my app…” how could an app know when youre ovulating? A body is unique and not a machine with a built in calendar
