I feel like if they don't want people to cut corners and use the grass they should put bales closer to the apex of the corner, i feel like the course design kinda allowed that to happen as such in my opinion... not that it should be taken that seriously though it's basically historical meme go-karting

We had a kid in school with the same car but black with no exhaust and he would come down the hill in front of the football field using the gears to slow down and if he would of heard what everyone's opinion was about him doing this everyday he probably would have left school the back way but to each his own! Cavaliers in this area were throw away cars!!!!!
Agreed! My dad said that it was definitely not a cool car, my dad drove a Foxbody in high scool and that was actually a “cool” car when he was in high school lol
If they're that desperate to have a Cavalier, they're doing it wrong. Travis might need to add some curbs to keep people in check. I suspect the super narrow track was intended to keep things tame, but it seems to have backfired. Hope the fun parts outweighed the ending for you. It was pretty entertaining to watch.

Possibly but I bet the primary reason for the narrow track is the cost of paving a wider one. A easy way of decreasing corner cutting is to put a couple of tires on the inside of each corner. I’d weight them down w/ concrete but while keeping the outer part of the tire hollow to keep them pliable to absorb impacts.
I use to race karts but you need to keep in mind that it’s really zoned to just have a good time in some guys backyard. Thank the guy who let you come and race in his back yard.
The Chaos guy is a reference to the movie “Cannonball Run” it’s Dom DeLuise character. Bert Reynolds is also in the movie.

I'm thinking that whoever made and designed the track didn't think about the problems that are going to happen this track should have been made at least three and a half cars wide then this would have been a great track but also they should have put some heavy Banks on all the turns great idea bad design it was fun to watch
I get that this race was supposed to just be for fun. But cheating and purposely knocking people out, not cool. I am 100% with you that cutting the course is cheating. They werent doing it to pass.
It’s not cheating, if there’s no rule set up about it. And knocking others around is a part if racing you’ll find in ANY series, @ EVERY level

You say it was just for fun but I though the winner got a 1987 Chevy Cavalier Z24 that looks to be in great condition.
A simple way to fix the corner cutting issue is to penalize someone if all four wheels cut the asphalt, as long as you still have a wheel on the asphalt you're good. I guess you really can't monitor all that much in a backyard go kart race

When I think of a good time I think of arduous regulation and strict governence
I blame the organisers to a large degree in that they did no ‘tech inspection’, the track was too narrow,they did not make the rules clear enough during driver’s briefing and the marshalling was dreadful. I feel you drove well in your first race, managing the kart’s gearing issue etc. However, in the last race of the day your kart was totally outpaced by the ‘indycar replicas’ as well as many of their drivers cutting corners at every opportunity. I think you are wise to compete with like minded people at a well run, competitive and above all safe venue. Good luck. Steve UK 🇬🇧

Kinda sucks he was so out of control he wrecked 2 nice vintage carts. If it was that sketchy to "race" dude shouldn't have been out there. Hopefully the one that flipped didn't get to busted up. Looking forward to what these 2 get into at Millbridge though!

We 2 space parking lot parkers are tired of the narrow slots & people slamming thier doors into ours! That's why we take up 2 spots!
The 2 guys that cut the corner should be disqualified.
I can't help but think that the track width was largely to blame for the incidents and track cutting. There's no excuse for wrecking people to pass, but I do understand the frustration and desperation that sinks in when you only have one legitimate chance to overtake per lap. I think it'd be cool to find another event like this, with a better prepared track

Hey guys I'm all about having fun and go carting all that stuff, but I have a problem with the track, 1) is NOT WIDE ENOUGH, 2) no where to pass, I mean each brings there own cars, ok...what is the heats and the prize is there points like nascar u know all the blah blah blah, I'm sure its funny guys, but we are only seeing 1 small piece of the track. Sorry guys,
If someone started making fiberglass bodies for these again I could see this really taking off. The enthusiasm for go karts is imo bigger then it was in the 70's, just need more company's building them again.
With a big enough order(not even a crazy amount)you could get about any kart body maker to do it especially the smaller builders
There would need to be some kind of amature racing series. Mini Nascar parking lot ovals, perhaps.

Big time foul on the guy for putting you in the tree and flipping the other driver! Trading paint, perfectly fine...running someone off the road, unacceptable. I hope the property owner had a talk with him, warn him not to do it again or risk not being invited back. Other than that, I enjoyed watching this!

To be honest on qualification day I looked at those trees and said, someone is going to eat one! Not sure if cutting trees down there is as regulated as here in OZ , but a track widening into the widow maker is a must. Also the pole line cutting was clear non respect to race craft in that corner.. it needed t be hay-bailed. All on all great grass roots racing! As much as content maker is a tad bitter, who isn’t when rubbing is racing that doesn’t go your way!
His immediate pull over after rolling homie over was definitely one of those “Awww Shit” moments when you know you were a dick..... the sad part is he wasn’t even gonna win the race. His super reckless behavior was for nothing. What a TOOL!!!

That was a Horrible track!!! And super irresponsible drivers !! Whoever was in charge of making the track was S T U P I D period. Was a dangerous race... won't even suggest it was on a racetrack. If they ever have another race there, someone needs to know something about racing and widen the track and set some rules. Thanks for Sharing ❤️

The track needs to be 2 lanes all the way around and then a dq if you get more than 2 tires of the track in the corners because if there's 2 lanes available all the way around then the only reason you have 4 wheels off is to cut the corner. Still looks like a blast either way!
It just needs to widen on the turns or making S turns for passing, the straights are ok I guess..

Thank you for this upload as all of this is cool and nice but the only place were multi class racing really works is a GTA 5 PC 5M server. The faster and reckless racer in the Indy car body his front wing is so low to the ground it acted like a crowbar and just scooped the quacker state car right up, also the organizers need a lot more hay bales around things and build much wider turns.

Looks like a fun track, but needs to be widened to a 2 cart wide setup to give people better passing spots. And enforce a deduction penalty if people like some of those Indy carts cut the track. If 2 tires r off the track, its fine, but if all 4 are clearly off course, deduct a few points or do a stop and go like in nascar.
Once again im late to the party, coulda sworn i was subscribed. Travis is a legend for putting on something like this, if there was a class my old dirt speedway kart could compete in i would seriously be tempted. Doubt they would allow a full blown alcohol race kart out there though. Either way looks fun as hell! As far as racing goes though, we always kept it clean and i actually enjoyed the inverted starts because it gave me people to chase and passing action. Running in the front the whole race was boring in my opinion. The grass passes were some bs though, needs to be like 2 1/2 kart widths so you have room to pass...
If he can cut corners like that, you should have been able to add nitrous using a "Whippet" cartridge. 😂

I race gokarts on dirt mine goes 65 highly recommended! You need to try it they are almost like that just different style!

Doing events like this are absolutely a blast. I went to some backyard dirt tracks and totally enjoyed myself. All rules are off. I ran some cheated up motors.Thanks. Funny.

I know nothing about these guys and could care less what they ran anyway. Was just a general statement. And what I meant was all rules were off, was the driving part anything goes. For instance dumping guys passing on the grass. whatever

This event is something to build off of and learn from for the racers and the event coordinators. Tech inspection, rules and track modifications added and this could be a really well refined experience that still has all the grit you still want out of racing go carts. This video is a ton of fun to watch and IMO well worth the adventure and time to film. Well done Stapleton!

That was BS! #1, inverted starts suck, but even more so, they should have kept the stock-bodied cars and indy-bodied cars separate, and yeah, that stroke WAS cheating. #2, they should have hay-bailed that corner to prevent that corner-cutting. Overall, you did pretty damn well in my opinion. With lack of rules, or at least none looking like they're being enforced, it was more than even Captain Chaos would have embraced!!! I really like some of the stories and automotive history the guy that put that event on has shared, I’m sorry that you got forced off the track by some guy that ran out of talent. I hate that the whole event kind of got a black eye because of that guy. It’s awesome that you guys were willing to drive that far and put that much work into the cart to entertain all of us. I just found this channel a couple days ago. And I can't stop laughing at this. We just done go kart racing at autobhan in bham al. And I wasn't about to let my dad beat me. Just stayed on the gas, bounced off the walls and still won. Next morning my back was bruised, my knee from hitting the steering wheel. The kids carts went 25mph and adults 55. Best place to have birthday parties.

Mitchell, you did some really good driving in your "stock car class", showing real driving skill! Inverting that field for the final race was a big mistake for a track that was this tight and narrow! Hope they learn from this, and make it better next time! The suspension in a go-kart is tire pressure, period! Getting that right is important! Having different size sprockets for the motor and axel are a must, to dial in a track! I used to race karts in the late 60's! Go-Kart 500 frame, 7 hp McCulloch racing engine, 2 carbs, putting out around 12 hp! Straight chain drive, no clutch, 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds!

12hp McCulloch with no clutch does 0-60 a full second faster than a 125cc 45-50hp shifter kart? Nope, that never happened. In the mid 90s our shifter Karts had 42-45hp. On a good day and with short gearing it came close to 3 seconds.
'The suspension in a go-kart is tire pressure, period! ' -wrong. A combination of track width, controlled chassis flex and tire pressure is what gives a race kart handling/balance/grip. This is why there are bends in the chassis tubes and why often there are more seat struts than would be necessary to just mount a seat and why modern chassis have up to two (1 front, 1 rear) removable cross braces. None of that can be done properly on what you did race in this video.
Maybe you already have, but if not you should talk to Lake Speed about gearing and maybe making some changes to the chassis in terms of caster, ackemann and chassis stiffness.

Man I Remember Going to the dirt tracks in my home state on the weekend and racing go karts in the 90s early 2000s with my stepdad...good times would get home untill 2 or 3 am sometimes.....the good 0le days

Everyone's done an A-team theme. That and Scooby-Doo is exactly what I didn't want. We painted it the night before the race, outside. By flashlight. We think it turned out ok.

30:49 Anytime both wheels (both sides) of the car cross over a track limit that's a track cut. In sanctioned racing if you gained time or passed someone doing that you may get a warning, do it a 2nd time and likely be forced to serve a time penalty. If no position or time was gained (maybe you're avoiding a crash) no warning - no penalty typically (its usually at the discretion of the track marshal).

Definitely look up Cannonball Run 2, when I was a kid it was one of those movies that encouraged the car enthusiast in me. Jackie Chan in the Starion used to crack me up as a kid in that movie. The introduction to the movie with the Lamborghini is iconic.

There's a difference between putting the inside tires on the grass during a pass or a hot qualifying lap, having your outside tires on the white line and still be within the letter of the rules(older Indycar people will get that reference) and repeatedly straightlining a corner like camo guy...It's crap like the last one in particular that there's track limit rules, enforcement and "you touch them you die" kerbs in place today which can ruin somebodys race due to a simple innocent mistake over doing something with nefarious intent. The "There’s a distinct difference" goes for a little bumping and rubbing fenders and quarters to dive bombing and wrecking people (and then not owning your s*** and/or being a hypocrite about it). The latter is one of the reasons that despite all their other accomplishments and deeds, to this day I don't like Senna and Michael Schumacher.
TL;DR This is why we can't have nice things.
I also hated how NASCAR had that....but he was trying to win attitude. The bump and run at Bristol was always garbage. Stupid fright train racing on the high banks let's wreck because it's Daytona. I do justify hitting someone who is blocking you though, like when you clearly see the guy has more momentum.
@@sickbs3358 Yeah, there's plenty of examples of intense racing with trading paint from all kinds of racing and there's also examples of where someone "Imma wreck you if you try to pass me" blocked another driver and gets their due one way or the other, outside NASCAR, a famous open wheel one is Mika Hakkinen doing a No Vaseline on the aforementioned Michael Schumacher at Spa.
I haven't done any racing in a long time, but I've always maintained that if you can't set up and pass someone clean or your ego can't handle being overtaken, you have no business driving on a track with other people no matter how fast you might be by yourself.

This is SOOOOOOO Bad ASs!!!!! As far your passing "maneuvers" go, I mean, It's not like you had a lot of room to give you better options. Afterall, you didn't design or build the track, so with all those narrow spaces, you have to get creative if you want to pass/win. There's no rule against it (that I'm currently aware of) so knock em all out.

I had a 1992 Z24 Cavalier Red Convertable that I bought for $500 with a lot of problems. I loved it. I really wish I didn't sell it due to financial problems.
He should’ve at least been penalized and laugh or two for cutting the corner like they do in NASCAR also Wish we got to see Logan take that car around the track one time keep up the good work

Best part for me personally was seeing all the amazing rides in the background, especially that orange dually ext cab GMT-400. i agree with ya on the actions of that one driver and it seems the guy spends to much time in his sim or playing gtav than actually driving lol hope ya didn't damage the cart to much and we see more of this as you have a natural talent

I never owned a Z-24 but my best friend got a brand new one in 88' when we got our licenses.His family was well off mine wasn't so at the same time I bought a 1979 Honda Civic.The Z-24 is a cool car I don't care what anyone says.

Going forward I definitely think they should Black flag the people that cut the track that bad and if I were them I would do the track like Talladega and have that out of bounds line like if you go past this line you’re penalized you know. Anyways love the car if you were to do a different body I would do Dale Jr 2001 Pepsi 400 car or his 2002 looney Tunes car that he ran the bush series those are both sick paint schemes
When I graduated I was driving a 72 Lemans dog, my friends had a Mach 1, a Barracuda, another Lemans. Not quite a Z24.
You always have people that will do whatever it takes to win and that takes the fun out of it. Like the guy that puts 10k in a stock 4 motor to win $250 at a local dirt track.
It's hard to have parody when there are basically no rules. Most of the Indy bodied karts were a lot faster and I thought the whole point was "fun"? You can tell by them idling who has a built motor. You can tell the way they sound if they have high compression, bigger cam and adjusting timing but besides that, cutting the track is a big f**k you to everyone that tries to abide by the rules and if they aren't gonna enforce the rules, it's a big f**k you everyone that came there to have fun and expected equality, not who ever spent the most money like normal racing. If they're gonna let that go on, you may as well build a tank that as fast as any of them but you can just shove them out of the way when you need to lol.
I love it. I live in Texarkana Texas,we used to do a race called the bulldog 100. It was for a rising star scholarship fund. I drive for 5 years. It was a lot of fun.😂
That track is cool IDEA... however, that track NEEDS to be widened out by A LOT...
