    Incredible that a ship of HMS Dauntless age and capability and not forgetting to mention cost has been laid up for so long and is likely to be a quite a while before she recommissions and is fully operational again.

    Visualy warships used to be mainly comprised of huge guns but now the structure is mainly focused on detection and communication . It only seems to have one relatively small deck get but I bet it's full of rockets and other armaments too .

    For sure The Dauntless is the power in these waters, but nowt can match The Interceptor for speed.

    Nice ship. Looks very looong and all closed up with minimal openings, I guess to make it more stealthy in radar searches.

    It would be ironic if Cammell Laird went bankrupt and the work was halted. They have made massive losses on building 'boaty mcboatface' and the original owner / CEO has stepped down (a good man, John Syvret). The main shareholder Whitaker has also just been wiped out by the collapse of Intu which he also owned. Hard to see where the money will be coming from unless government steps in to save the day....again.....

    She should never have been laid up like this. Why not take a Type 23 out of service in favour of a Type 45? They are fairly similar in role, could be adapted, are much more capable, and I'd rather have more Type 45 in service that aging Type 23. They are a lot more advanced. I'd say it was sad, but it is good to see her back in service

    • @paultanton4307
      @paultanton4307 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Type 45 and Type 23 have different roles - AAW and ASW respectively,HMS Dauntless was laid up more for lack of a crew than anything else,after a short trial period she is going back into Dock to be cut open to have her Gensets changed.

    • @ATH_Berkshire
      @ATH_Berkshire 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They have completely different rolls and have different qualities. The T23 is all about ultra low noise so the sonar works well. The T45 is all about optimising radar performance. You’re wrong and out them being adaptable to do each other’s roll.
