They had clutch of cygnets after three years of not being able to hatch their eggs. An immigrant lured them and trapped every single one. He ate the parents and was keeping the babies to get big. The difference is these swans were beloved by the town, their purpose was not for eating.
That's amazing - you were a wonderful hostess! You might see this couple again. They often return to a place that has proven safe and comfortable. Terrific video.

We have two pairs of native Black Ducks that nest under our peppermint bush, beside our pool every year. And every year we have to fetch ducklings out of the pool and walk mama and a bucket full of ducklings, down to the lake. We do this to protect them from the crows, who will prey on teeny tiny ducklings. My hubby swears black and blue. My daughter and I, love it! 😂❤
This pair are gonna use the porch every time now. When she finds out, maybe we get a video of her remaking a shelter for the birds next time they come around

I've had a pair of geese nesting near my porch for almost 6 years now. I try to keep an eye on the nest, but the raccoons are ravenous sometimes. They finally had a full family this year, and I got to watch them all grow up over the last several months. They still hate my guts, even though I've known them their whole lives. But they're a welcome addition to my little corner of the world.
Lol, I love that. They still hate you, but that's nature for you, isn't it? Loving wild animals means accepting that they will always be what they are.

Thank you for watching over mama and her babies making sure that they have food and water and giving them their privacy and understanding and just being a good person. I live near to a park with a lake and the geese that live there are the nicest, sweetest and most peaceful animals I‘ve ever seen. They never attack people even when the have goslings, they just chill around you and walk away when you‘re coming too close. They have a watchful eye on dogs but I’ve only ever seen a goose hiss at them once. They‘re just so sweet I love them so much!
There's a flock of Canada geese that come to our town park every year. I enjoy watching the goslings every year. Canada geese mate for life. She'll probably see this pair again.
You did a good job in giving Mama her space and lowering the stress level. I'm sure she appreciated getting breakfast in bed, too. Definitely, 5-star accomodations.😊 You might want to make some other provisions for her for next time, though. Now that she has found her "safe place" to roost, they'll be back!!! ❤❤❤
As the mom and dad geese led their goslings to the pond, I wonder how they were explaining their surroundings. As you can see, humans build their NESTS with bricks. And since they never learn to fly and most are too lazy to walk, they get around in these things called "cars." They must find us amusing!

I've never had a problem with Canadian geese even hisding at me & I collected pecans only a couple of feet away from them. Maybe it was because i talked siftly to them & didn't push in where they were standing. Although one time i was at a bus bench & it was next to a big field area where the flocks were grazing. I had not one but 2 different geese, one from each flock, watching me the entire time I was there. They literally set a guard on me. It was adorable.
Mother geese really are amazing. I remember finding a stray gosling while walking in a park one day. An hour in, and we found its mother and other goslings swimming in the lake. As soon as she saw us with her baby, she stopped at the side of the bank and patiently waited for us to return her baby. The experience was magical.

In Manitoba (Canada) and southern Minnesota, I've experienced flocks of Canadian geese while walking through parks and similar areas. They are very territorial. They aren't friendly birds as they will hiss, peck at your ankles and legs, leave poop everywhere, and do their best to chase you away.
Now that they’ve successfully hatched a nest of goslings on that porch, these two geese will probably return next spring to nest again, they tend to return to the same nesting site year after year. I hope this lady is prepared!

What a beautiful story. I had the pleasure of becoming friends with a family of canadian geese this year and they truly are lovely intelligent birds , I became a kinda seragate uncle to the chicks and would be left to look after them while Mr Goose and Bella lagoosey would go off for a swim it was a memorable and lovely experience. Unfortunately I haven't seen them in over a month as i presume they have moved on now the little uns can fly. I do really miss them hopefully I will see them in the future I have not experienced the cobra chicken rage that many others have but have seen it first hand as having a bond with them they became protective of me . Such kool birds 😎
Yes! We are guests in their territory. Even in our urban environments, we need to do all we can to help wildlife survive & thrive. Even something as simple as putting out fresh water in your backyard or putting up a birdfeeder can make such a difference! Be part of the solution!! 💖💖💖
I've no idea how they knew which side of the walk way was theirs, but our town painted a walk way separate from people so you could walk right past them with zero issues. And put up signs specifically in the area for the geese to be protected from cars. Every late spring through the summer you'd see some new family go to one of the local mini golf place that also served food. People would feed then and then they would walk home in a straight line on their side of the walk way and they always cross the road that was laid out and painted specifically for the geese. You could walk past an greet them with no problem, provided you were not dumb enough to try and go after one of their babies, but the adults never did. Sometimes maybe a 2 year old would run out of sight for the few seconds a parent didn't pay attention. There was never an incident where they would bite the young kids, and if they just petted one of the babies once, the mother and dad would usually allow it. But more than that, or if they tried to pick them up, instead of biting their fingers like you would think. One of the parents would lay their heads over the baby a kid tried to pick up, while the other would cry out for someone to come and pick up their kid. At worst they would use their beaks to nibble on the kids clothes trying to hold it back or tug at it to get the kid to stop. Which in some cases of course would make a 2-3 year old kid cry if it started tugging, didn't let go while making sounds. Still there was never any stories about them ever hurting kids in anyway, they were simply setting boundaries. It probably helped that these geese were very used to humans their entire lives. I've seen geese in other places who are very agressive.
Ha, Ha!!! This past Spring we had a pair of Canada Geese that built their nest on the backside slope of my husband's workshop roof, in our back yard! The roof, (where it connects to the side of the building is about 10 to 12 feet off the ground). The roof goes higher from there, up to the pitch. I was shocked one day, when I looked at the shop and saw the two parent birds with all their little goslings standing on the sloped roof! As an animal lover, I was scared that the babies would be hurt, falling off the roof. The sun was setting and the parent birds decided to spend that first night on the roof! I was grateful the next morning when I did a head count, that all 6 babies were still up there and okay! I devised a pretty ingenious slope for them, to bring the babies off the roof, by securing some ladders and large screens together, to make a slide to the ground. But, as I was constructing my slide, the family all went to the other corner of the roof. I went back inside, hoping that they would find the slide. But, they never went back to that side of the roof. They were all huddled in the opposite corner. I watched from my window as the father goose flew to the ground. He began insistently honking for the babies to come down. My heart was in my throat that they would all make it, with no injuries. One by one, the babies jumped from the edge of the roof, onto the not so soft grass and dirt. I was so grateful that all the babies made it!!! I watched them leave my yard, following behind their parents, just to be sure none were limping or falling behind, due to injury from the jump! But, the babies all followed right along! I was so happy that they were okay!!! Tough little babies!!!

This year, our local crow couple built their nest in a tree right in front of our neighbour's house, very close to our house. We could all just look right in and see what was going on. We humans got very invested in their well-being, giving papa food and water to bring to mama on the nest, and then to his four babies too. We were all so excited when we first saw the babies. When they fledged and were learning to fly, only three of the four survived, sadly. We buried the one who didn't make it, and we feed the remaining three and their parents every day.
My second apartment was located on an artificial lake. Every spring we would get geese flying down from the north, hatching their eggs, and raising their babies.... There was so much goose poop on the sidewalks. Luckily, the geese wouldn't attack you if you left them alone, but they would hiss at you just for walking by.
They tend to nest in the same place, so mark your calendar for their return next year.

We humans got very invested in their well-being, giving papa food and water to bring to mama on the nest, and then to his four babies too. We were all so excited when we first saw the babies. When they fledged and were learning to fly, only three of the four survived, sadly. We buried the one who didn't make it, and we feed the remaining three and their parents every day.

My second apartment was located on an artificial lake. Every spring we would get geese flying down from the north, hatching their eggs, and raising their babies.... There was so much goose poop on the sidewalks. Luckily, the geese wouldn't attack you if you left them alone, but they would hiss at you just for walking by.
