People don't realize how smart pigeons are. At one point they were revered and paid the highest regards. Now a days people treat them as a nuisance. I'm glad this couple extended a helping hand and cares for this pigeon! ❤❤
They have US trained, after all. They don't have to go far, just the neighborhood park. Walk towards someone eating, Bob their head, coo a little. And, Voilá! Free food!
I always figured they had to be doing something right to exist in huge flocks the way they do in cities, but they're just so endearingly derpy looking...
I raised a pigeon called Paloma. She lived with me, my cat and my dog for 14 years, I cried many tears when she died during the pandemic because the vet would not see her as she was considered less important than regular pets. Heartbreaking.
Pigeons are actually wonderful birds. They're smart and affectionate and highly trainable. They started out as a domesticated animal but were abandoned over time. I'd happily care for a pigeon.
they are wonderful and i also love the crows too, they are always doing something and i love to watch them while they do some kind of their stuff, it is so entertaining :)
thought she'd "return to the wild"? Too many people don't realize that pigeons are ABANDONED PETS. The reason there's so many worldwide is because people bred them to be trained and used to keep them for all sorts of reasons, like racing and for message services. Sadly as technology advanced, sending messages by pigeon was no longer a thing and they just got forgotten. Just like cats and dogs on the streets. They were bred to live with us, which is why they stay in cities and towns.
Not the pigeons in Côte d'Ivoire. They kept their wild side and are weary of humans. Hence my shock my first experience of London pigeons during lunch time😅😅. They'll bully you out of your own lunch. Upon learning their deep and historical connection with humans in Europe, I understand... It's still sad those smart birds were left to fend for themselves in cities.
As someone who once rescued a pigeon, I can attest that they are capable and far more intelligent than given credit for. ILoved my girl and once her wing healed, I was still her love. If I sunbaked in the backyard she would lay down next to me and spread her wings out for a bit of Vitamin D too. And she loved to sit on my head, but she would sit on my shoulder and gently coo against me neck. I loved her so much.
“It is true that humans domesticated pigeons for centuries, and feral pigeons do largely stay in urban environments because we brought them there. They are highly trainable, and if fed by humans, they will stay close to urban environments. Pigeons also naturally prefer rocky ledges similar to the concrete, marble, and stone found in urban environments, as opposed to forests, shrubs, or grass.”
If you go to the same place, each day, twice a week, once a week and lay some seed down, you'll be guaranteed a bunch of bird friends in no time. I go to the park, its a small walled garden around 4 tennis courts in size. I go there with seeds, monkey nuts and peanuts. I feed a gang of pigeons, wood pigeons, squirrels, blue jays. ravens, crows and magpies with my offerings. Its almost like a Disney film when they all come and greet me.
@@TheMixCurator I used to have a family of 5 magpies in my back garden, and it happened several times when the magpie father knocked on my bedroom window at 7 am for me to start feeding them. Many people hate the noises they make not knowing that they're doing those noises mostly when they're "hungry."
We have two rescued pigeons so I was curious about this. Most sources say a pigeon in captivity can live 15-20 years. So it's a long commitment, like having a dog or cat
This does my heart good! I love all animals and living creatures! Well Franklin was meant to be with you guys and you meant to be with him! That’s very smart and responsible that you two supervise over Franklin and the cats , God forbid anything to happen! You two are great parents! Thank you for rescuing Franklin and making him your family 🙏
Every time I think I’ve seen it all, The Dodo surprises me 😂 Also, I really miss living in NYC. People don’t realize how amazing (most) New Yorkers are, like this couple
Listen, once that pigeon is trained to your window no matter where you take her within 10 - 20 miles ( or even more ) she'll be back at your balcony before you. I know this because i flew Canadian High Flyers ( a breed of homing pigeons ) for over 10 yrs as a teenager. So this was my routine, i would take from 20 to 30 of my best pigeons, in a carrier from the Lower East Side , onto hte ferry intl Staten Island and let them go. Or i would take them to Central Park, or the Bronx, many different place and let them go, by the time i got back to my loft on the roof, they would be there waiting for me. Great hobby, i truly miss it. Enjoy your Pigeon, they are very special creatures.
I LOVE this!! I have always felt so very sorry for Pigeons and the way they are treated. Franklin is a beauty and you are beautiful people!! XOX From Ireland
Such a lovely family. The only worry is the pigeon will be unafraid of other cats outside...which could put her in danger one of these days .... really hope that will never happen.
I loved the video and your family with pigeon and cats!! Thanks for taking Franklin in!! I'm sure it's a big responsibility, but probably brings you a lot of joy!! Pigeons are one of the 10 top smartest animals in the world, so I'm sure you can teach your baby a few things! Take Care Franklin and family 💟💟💟
🥹This is one of the SWEETEST, MOST PRECIOUS STORIES I’ve ever seen!!! GOD bless you both for caring enough to give so much of yourselves and your hearts to a bird that a lot of people would have just passed by!!! Animals don’t get enough credit for the amount of love and intelligence they have to offer us…..”The Dodo” teaches us just how much! It is my most FAV channel and I hope they never stop posting such heartwarming content!!! Thanks dodo! XxxOoo 😌❤
r u kidding??? i love pigeons we have so many here in London UK i have a mom and a son who come to my balconi for 2 years now and I feed them everyday there are times i almost touch them, they know i wont hurt them and I know they like me too, so id like to know I help them, they are adorable and so sociable♥♥♥♥♥
People don't realize how smart pigeons are. At one point they were revered and paid the highest regards. Now a days people treat them as a nuisance. I'm glad this couple extended a helping hand and cares for this pigeon! ❤❤
Sono d'accordo con te...ma il fastidio che la gente prova è x il loro guano ..a me piacciono, ne ho salvati parecchi nella mia città💚
I think it's pretty common knowledge that pigeons are smart
They have US trained, after all. They don't have to go far, just the neighborhood park. Walk towards someone eating, Bob their head, coo a little.
And, Voilá! Free food!
How much were they paid
I always figured they had to be doing something right to exist in huge flocks the way they do in cities, but they're just so endearingly derpy looking...

Your story made me cry. It's sad that Paloma was treated so unfairly.
I hope your happy memories of her help to vanquish the pain of her loss. 💝
Disgusting vet, not considering birds as pets. A pet is still a pet. I'm so sorry for your loss.
dox the DR.
I'm so sorry. That's not cool of your vet. Any animal is important.
I’m so sorry. 💜
She's beautiful and thank goodness she has you two to love her.
Franklin hit the jackpot - why live outside when you have an apartment? 😊
Pigeons are actually wonderful birds. They're smart and affectionate and highly trainable. They started out as a domesticated animal but were abandoned over time. I'd happily care for a pigeon.
❤❤❤
@Knucklebone22 No animal “starts out as domesticated” you complete fuqwit. Jesus.🤦♂️💩🤡🤷♂️🙄
they are wonderful and i also love the crows too, they are always doing something and i love to watch them while they do some kind of their stuff, it is so entertaining :)
People tend to forget that for hundreds of years, pigeon were literally a mode of communication. They had to be smart.

This pigeon makes me wanna love these birds
They are so loveable! Mine are at my window in their acrylic bird feeder waiting for breakfast. Brooklyn birds are funny
Pigeons are wonderful.

Pigeons are very social birds, and these people basically became this pigeon's family unit. Very cute.
This pigeon looks exactly like a park friend I once had named Zeus! Thanks for showing the world how incredible pigeons can be 🥰💕🐦💕
She was definitely an ugly duckling story. She went from looking quite pitiful to being a beautiful bird with a cool pattern and colors.
That cute chonky black cat is so gentle with the bird. Lovely story 🐱🕊💚
He hanged out with the cats and you know how cool cats are 😂
so wonderful! I love pigeons! They deserve love & care, too!! 🕊🍀
Very kind people to spend time helping this bird and giving it a chance, many blessings to you folks.
I have a one eyed pigeon that cant fly. I saved him, healed him and now he is spoiled, bites ankles and makes nests out of trash... his name is Pidge.
She is a cutie and I love how her eyes close when you pet her head. She definitely enjoys every single moment of love you give to her.
How long do pigeons raised in captivity typically live? Franklin is quite the character!
We have two rescued pigeons so I was curious about this. Most sources say a pigeon in captivity can live 15-20 years. So it's a long commitment, like having a dog or cat
So beautiful to see someone who can understand how special pigeons are. They are such amazing birds. 🙏🏻 😊
Absolutely beautiful ❤️💞♥️🤗
Love this story about the pigeon and her cat sister!! Just a very lovely thing to see!! What A beautiful sight!!
Gorgeous!!!! Black Cat...The Way its Fur Shines in The Sunlight is Surreal Beauty...Pigeon is Beautiful Too
This is the MOST amazing thing I have ever seen.
Shows you all animals can live in peace with each other if their humans teach them how to do that.
I love these kinds of people! Full of heart! ❤❤

Such a beautiful pigeon! I appreciate how she's as much a part of your family as the cats are! You guys rock!

Franklin must be the badass of the pigeon community... her own apt and 2 black cats! 😊

Pigeons are the most loyal loving family members 💖
I LOVE this!! I have always felt so very sorry for Pigeons and the way they are treated. Franklin is a beauty and you are beautiful people!! XOX From Ireland
Franklin is an inside pigeon. And i support her.
She says Pigeons are like "Stray dogs with Wings" 😄♥️
Birds always want to be where their people are and love to participate in all activities
Such a lovely family. The only worry is the pigeon will be unafraid of other cats outside...which could put her in danger one of these days .... really hope that will never happen.
Franklin is top-notch and the two of you are so sweet with your critters. 💖
