    Ever since Global NCAP started testing cars in India back in 2014 under its #safercarforindia campaign, the results have sprouted major arguments and controversies around Indian cars and safety. You can call it the genesis of the Indian automotive safety movement. The Global NCAP was formed to enhance vehicle crash-testing and reporting in emerging markets like India and Africa. Rating is what you see in the final results between 1 star all the way to the maximum 5 stars. More the stars safer is your car.
    The results awakened all the concerned authorities and buyers wanted safer cars. Since then, there have been significant improvements. Many carmakers had already incorporated safety features like airbags long before the law mandated them. The government, which had been slow to act on safety, among other initiatives, has introduced much higher crash test requirements.
    A crash rating for all cars would finish the baseless arguments about a model's safety and equip buyers with matter-of-fact knowledge to help them buy safely. This is encouraging news for Indians, and a good safety rating is vital for product selection. This is a piece of promising news for both buyers and manufacturers.
    To avoid any foul play, the cars to be tested a bought by GNCAP from a showroom. This is for cars that are currently in production. However, for cars awaiting launch, they are procured directly from the manufacturer in a random fashion. Global NCAP prefers to use the base model of the car, but this is again subject to if the car makers voluntarily wish to send a better model of the car. Once the crash test is done, Global NCAP bills the carmaker for the test, the hardware, software, shipping, and cargo charges which are finally reimbursed.
    Watch the video to know more about how credible these tests are and how much we should trust them.

    One thing I hate about car makers in India is that some cars have better safety ratings in UK/Europe/Australia compared to the same cars (same brand+Model) in India.
    I am not talking about the no. of airbags or ABS,EBD,ESC etc which are basic requirements in those region (Thanks to GoI, it's started coming in India as well). I am talking about "Bodyshell Integrity". A lot of cars have a "Stable" structure outside India but have"Unstable" structure in India because they use low grade steel to save money.
    For example, Swift in UK/Europe is a 5 star rated car with Stable Bodyshell Integrity. But in India, the car got 2 stars with Unstable Bodyshell Integrity (0 star without Airbags+ABS). Even cars like Kia, Creta etc. with 4 stars have Unstable structure.

      Hi Girish,
      Your concern is completely understandable. For the mass market, if the number of cars produced has to be higher, so carmakers not only in India but everywhere do cost-cutting.
      If you are not aware, cost-cutting is when the vehicle manufacturers perform certain edits and omit in the vehicle to lower the cost of the vehicle in exchange for their higher profit margins.

      Its not just about cars. Packaged food items like chocolates, biscuits etc of the same brands and same items are totally different in india compared to those sold abroad. India spec kitkats and oreos are of very low quality compared to those sold abroad.

    Why G-NCAP test with 64kmph, since speed limit is 80 or 120 kmph, which can led to a diffrent outcome 🤔

    The biggest misconception is safety rating is considered as steel strength or build quality rating

    • @gomechanicindia
      @gomechanicindia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi,
      You are correct, the rating itself is based on the Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection scores resulting from the crash test.

      @@gomechanicindia The safety rating if dependent only on steel strength only then cars with UNSTABLE bodyshell like Honda city , Renault Kiger , Triber , Tata tiago , tigor , Mahnidra Thar would NOT have got 4 star ratings in GNCAP

    the most interesting thing that I saw is that many cars had pillars intact (all the pillars tbh) but they were marked as "unstable bodyshell"! I mean come on ! With that thing even mk1 Golf would have been zero star! With the same logic literally all would have been zero star!
    Another thing is that with Airbag the game changes for most cars!
    Vw polo without airbag got 0 stars so they have poor build quality ah! wtf!

    I strongly feel higher the safety rating... The why the owners drive those cars are pathetic, they feel they drive very safe cars but actually they drive madly. One has to understand ur safety is in the way you drive

    we want to know whether the TECT platform in New Brezza 2022 is the same one used in Wagon R and others in India ;or the platform is same as it was used in old brezza ?which platform is used in old brezza and which platform is used in new brezza . kindly specify clearly .

    • @gomechanicindia
      @gomechanicindia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suzuki introduced the fifth generation TECT platform with the Baleno. It absorbs energy better, is lighter and more rigid, ensuring better ride and handling. The 2022 Brezza is the second vehicle to use the exact platform. However the WagonR is based on a completely different platform.

    • @jobin_john
      @jobin_john ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the above statement is not correct . Please check it again. Asper my knowledge Baleno is using the latest version of heartect platform while brezza uses Suzuki tect platform which based on the Global C platform

    The main reason I really don't trust Global N-cap is the lack of transparency, they aren't a charity so their revenue has to come from somewhere right? And that isn't specified, these tests are also not very accurate and only recently they have started testing traction control that too not on all cars. lets take the Hyundai Creta which has been a very controversial test, the car's footwell and bodyshell has been rated unstable, even though the difference between the impact of other cars like the Mahindra thar that have similar damage to the test dummy, have been rated considerable higher.
