I moved out of my parents house on my 21st birthday(I’m now 43). I remember when I first started to decorate for holidays and I felt so overwhelmed and broke! Thank you for being so real and honest. I think it’s important for your younger viewers to hear. These days with social media I feel to many younger people think they are suppose to have it all on day 1, which is unrealistic. It takes time and lots of work. 22 years later, 6 Christmas trees and 75 feet of decorated porch, I have gathered the items I’ve needed/wanted. Now, the only time I feel the need to buy more is when you’ve inspired me to create a new vignette! I have a potters bench by my back door that is going to get a similar winter scene as yours. And then, when you're in your 60's as I am, you realize you're now overwhelmed because you have collected so much over the years but, now you've got it all! LOL! Laura inspires me to use what I've got and to improvise with it which I love doing. It's great a feeling to try something new that I haven't thought of before with my existing 'collection'.

This is beautiful, other than my two actual Christmas trees, I gravitate more toward a "winter look." I leave everything except my trees out through February. I even leave my wreath up, I just take the Christmas bow off. The rest of it is just juniper, pine cones, and a burr style owl. I do have to replace the juniper occasionally but that is easy. Russell is priceless.
Love how you use things you already have on hand (mostly). I really love the dried orange slices. How long do they normally last for you? Do you need to do anything to preserve them further like spraying them with a clear acrylic spray?
I dried citrus last year and I didn’t put any sealant on them. They still look the same as they did last year. I just made sure to put them in a dry place for storage. They kinda naturally have a satin shine to them without a spray.

I’ve been married for 26 years and I too have furniture pieces from thrift shops and low-priced “antique” stores that I redid. It’s fun to remember who we were when we bought those pieces. Your vignette is really pretty. I can’t do live greens due to allergies so I’m green with envy as I watch you style your outdoors.
I hope you give us another light tour after the snow. The South garden looked like a fairy land and how much more so with snow in the ground to reflect those beautiful lights!

My Christmas decorations are more minimalist this year, since I moved 18 months ago. Many decorations did not make the move. Different times need adjustment of lifestyle. Adjusting to life's circumstance is the key to success.
I have a variety of evergreens on my deck on the main floor which I have strung with white lights. I keep them up all year long, set to come on when it becomes dusky outside. Even on gloomy, rainy days I'll turn on the lights all day. I live in the northwest so our daylight in the winter, especially on a rainy day, is very short. I love the cherry lights, especially in the late fall, winter and early spring. I have no window covering, so in the darkness I see the white lights and it gives something beautiful to focus on outside the windows. Laura, I love what you do with your outside decor. You are my go-to channel for pleasure and inspiration.

This is so much fun to watch, because I can't even think about going outside to work on anything if the temperature drops below 50, let alone snow is falling! We're thankfully having some mild weather here in SW Pennsylvania so far, but as tempted as I am to go outside and do something I need the break before things ramp up again in the spring. At least I can feel a little bit productive by watching Laura keep things going!

So pretty!! Just a thought about your extension cord… I was able to use those command hook cord clips on my front porch…..same ones you used on the Hartley. Was keeping my fingers crossed that it would stick to wood, and so far everything’s still stuck. It’s keeping my cord nice, tidy and straight, right up against the house. Not sure of the texture of your baseboard there, but it might stick if it’s smooth enough. Merry Christmas GA family!

My first Christmas tree was garlands off popcorn and cranberries, prisms, and woven wheat inexpensive ornaments. Just red bows on a tree is festive.
