I’m surprised some people don’t remember how to spell. Maybe since it was drilled into me as a child about its importance that’s why I remember spelling.
@@Ethyro , some of the lessons you learned about how to spell might not help in spelling Asian and African cities. Some people just have more aptitude for it regardless of the effort they put in. I find it difficult for places that I've only seen written and the only pronunciation I have is the one I've come up with. I suppose that may help my spelling at times, too. I was familiar with Ouagadougou for at least a decade before hearing it pronounced. Similarly, I mentally mispronounce Ark- HANGEL-sk with a hard "h" to remember how to spell it.
@@deepowlsits harder with cities i have heard but never seen spelled. And thats alot. But then again, spelling is the least problem, just knowing the cities is hard enough ;)
muscat is apparently some sort of "urban area" with multiple cities rather than an actual city, so the database that hugequiz uses doesn't pick it up as one (idk why)
I want an official ruling from the judges - in a quiz like this, it is not cheating if you look up how to spell something - it's a geography quiz, not a spelling test!
To be honest i think (it’s hard to tell with him typing so fast) that it does give you SOME spelling leeway in the guesses, obviously you still have to be in the ballpark but It looks like from watching, it accepts some typos as correct answers. Could be wrong though
That 74k in Canada probably WAS Fort McMurray. But, it's called Wood Buffalo on a lot of these quizzes, which is the name of the municipality that Fort McMurray is in.
Unsolicited Advice: Once you're in the latter part of the game, if you complete a country you haven't visited yet like Fiji and there are gaps nearby, you should type in your Fiji cities. You'll get at most half a section from each guess and possibly nothing, but it's a freebie guess and a lot easier than coming up with the 12th biggest city in Peru. Skipping Oceania even beyond Port Moresby seemed like an oversight...Nouméa, Honiara, Suva, and maybe Nadi (Fiji) could have possibly helped. However, this is also seems exhausting to do, so I don't blame you for punting on even trying northern Russia cities beyond Murmansk and Archangelsk. I'm sure you did better than I'd do. More importantly, anticipating what you were going to guess next kept me distracted while I was on my exercise bike.
That was a lot of fun to play along with! If you are doing quizzes like this it would be fun to watch you play the lingolocator game that has been trending on the geoguessr sub this week!
Hugequiz goes off of municipalities, so Fort McMurray is actually Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. It's also why the location it shows for some cities like Halifax (Halifax Regional Municipality) are not where you'd think the city centres are.
Definitely wanna see the longitude version too 😁
That's a lot harder fr
Your ability to remember how to spell so many of these cities is so impressive, I could never lol! Definitely would love to see the longitude version!

Fort McMurray is in the Specialized Regional Municipality of "Wood Buffalo" which is the answer for these quizzes.

because the city propper only has 30k people

Fantastic job! That’s extremely close to perfect. Longitude would be really fun as well. These quizzes are neat.

Nicely done! 👍🏾
If you do longitude, you won't get away with snubbing Asia again.
15:23 apparently even cg makes the classic Dubai/UAE slip up lol
Of course we want to see longitude! 😊
definitely more, but less reliance on the US to get out of the comfort picks
A challenge where he can't use US cities, or use them until the last ten minutes would be fun.
That latitude would be easy, loads of European and Chinese/Japanese cities.

Yelling Port Moresby while I watched, Great Video man
You were thinking of the capital of Chiapas, Tuxtla Gutierrez 😀
No wonder so many Americans can't even name 3 countries outside the US - this man got the all the available geography brain juice.
These quizzes are excellent, we all feel like we can play along
Thanks for using Columbia, SC as one of the cities to use (home city haha).
Nicely done Gavin, too bad on missing Port Moresby 😅
Freakin' Brazil, man. I always ended up with a gap on either side of Aracaju.
I was screaming Aracaju at the top of my lungs during the Brazil portions
Kazakhstan extends surprisingly far north.
10:37 Maputo 🤩
Fort McMurray is 50k but others can explain for why it's not accepted

Northern Alberta (Fort McMurray) is listed as 'Wood Buffalo' for some reason
impressive attempt! would love to see a longitude version
good effort!
