Another great video, I can completely agree that go out without a plan and within a few shots you will see a pattern arise with what you are photographing or what is capturing your eye, it's almost subconsciously. Who doesn't love to see a caravan in the countryside...

Thanks for watching Steve, hope you're doing well! I always enjoy shooting in this way, going out with little expectation for the photography is often very rewarding and it often makes you open to shooting new and different things. Don't get me wrong, we all have photography outings where we're hoping to shoot something very specific but every so often its nice to have a more casual approach. There are so many caravans around here 😂

Loved this mate! The shot with the caravan in was so nice! Top tier exercise this as well, you can’t beat just wandering and coming up with ideas as you go! - also gave you a honourable mention in a vid of mine going live tomorrow!! 😂

Ah thanks so much mate, glad you liked the caravan photo, I thought it was a cracking little scene 👌🏻😄 so much character and I’m always drawn to these sorts of subjects!
Really appreciate you taking the time to watch this video mate, really looking forward to tuning into yours! Super kind of you to give me a mention as well bud, thanks so much 🙏🏻😄

40 plus years of doing this and you are 100% correct. Most every time I plan I'm disappointed.

I love how a theme emerged from this approach

Thanks so much for watching! I think it’s one of the beauties of this approach, just following what interests you always leads to some kind of theme and it’s always satisfying when that happens! Suddenly gives a shoot so much more purpose

Hey man, I've just come cross your channel with this video. It's super refreshing and inspiring! Im off to Snowdonia tomorrow for the weekend and was debating leaving my gear at home just to get away from it for a while. Now I'm just going to do exactly this and shoot with no plan to try and find some inspiration again. Love your channel mate!

Hey Scott, thanks so much for checking out the video and taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! Enjoy your trip, it's one of my favourite places in the world! I think this approach would work so well for your trip, there's so much variety and so many diverse subjects to photograph, especially if you spend some time in some of the towns and villages 👌🏻.
Thanks bud, I actually gave you a. follow on IG, I love your work and I think you're pretty local to me, recognised a lot of the locations you've photographed and you captured them beautifully 👌🏻📸 great to connect with you mate!

Man Chris spot on this... actually been thinking of this same thing..little back story I used to live to the city (most of my life) and now to the rural side, before my photos would be of city and street but now it's on more landscapes or topographics style. Actually some of my fav photos are unplanned and used while I am in the moment..cudos love this kind of content

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment man! Cool to hear that you've moved to the countryside - I did the same a couple of years ago and it's crazy how where we live changes our view on photography and what we enjoy photographing. Hope you're enjoying your photography, it's great to hear you've been thinking about this topic too! I've found that a lot of my favourite photos have been created this way - just completely by chance when i'm approaching photography with an open mind!

Quality take on the theme, Chris. Well illustrated. Going out “on empty” can yield good results; some idea of possibilities still needed, as you pointed out. Approach also has the benefit, IMO, of forcing us to make the best use of whatever gear we take along. Agree?
BTW, was the old building you mentioned a “dove cottage” or just “cottage”? (Didn’t quite cut through the accent.) Cheers!

    • @chrisharveyphotography
      @chrisharveyphotography  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for watching Paul, really appreciate you taking the time bud!
Absolutely agree, limitation often leads to us having to think more creatively and I think that's what yields the best, or at least, more interesting results. And that applies to limitations in both subject matter/location as well as gear.
No problem! It's a building called a 'dovecote' they're found all over the UK and were used to house doves or pigeons. Often built on the properties of wealthy land owners.

@@chrisharveyphotography Thanks. I grew up in New York City where lots of (not rich) folks raised homing pigeons on their rooftops - in hand made sheds. Sometimes they would compete w/other local birders, try to “partially merge” flying flocks to increase their own. Money would exchange hands. Good topic for photojournalism.
