In making a video it is important to cover all angles. The crime rate in Jamaica, as well as Haiti, and Mexico is fueled by more than 90% by the massive number of illegal weapons that the USA turns a blind eye to leaving it's shores for profit. Without the guns these governments would be able to crush the criminals a long time ago. In most cases the security is outgunned. CARICOM has asked the USA to spend some of the '''war on drugs '''money to stop these weapons crossing their borders, but only ;promises. The remaining 10% that is causing the deaths in Jamaica, is Lottery scamming

I live in Montego Bay and yes, there's daily crime here but there was just as much crime in my US city. Most of the crime here is gang violence or domestic crimes. As the man said, if you stay away from the wrong things, you'll be fine. I think that a good point was made about the resorts taking away from the locals and that tourists should be buying their souvenirs from craft markets, etc. I walk around downtown, alone and don't feel unsafe. This video using the word "war" so many times would probably scare tourists into not leaving the resorts, possibly hurting the economy even further... Just my thoughts.

    • @madmouse7915
      @madmouse7915 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

The resorts tell everyone to absolutely without question stay within the confines of the resort and only purchase things there. Vendors aren't even allowed on the beaches near the tourists. Beach access has been completely cut off to everyone by those resorts. People who've relied on those waters for fishing and other profitable opportunities have been cut off or drastically limited and soon to be cut off 🤷‍♂️. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer 🤷‍♂️💯. Poverty always draws crime, but you're right, it all depends on what you decide to do with yourself that determines how dangerous things will or won't be more often than not.

I feel like their presentation is just so off. a large difference in an area where locals try to tell you dont be a dumbass tourist. Because it happens there go figure. Saying "youll get robbed" to these guys they spazz out. "99% sure the context was don't go fuck around there after dark.. Which id give the same advise for anyone! If your not from a place dont pick the night time dressed in fancy clothes cell phone on a selfie stick already held 10 feet away from you." After a certain point tourists fucking beg for it., Have some sympathy, culture, and the class to not flaunt shit that people aren't looking at going "hmm id like that camera, instead hmm i could take cara my kids and pay my bills with that" While still bad I dont count stoupid actions that lead to obvious results mean an area is dangerous. I mean dude this kid talked over these guys in every other scene because he cant tell what they are saying so he just waits for pauses. Everytime he misses a chance though he goes interrupting. There also wasn't much adressing of the people who -choose- to live almost water side. Certainly living there longer than me you know what im talking about. The houses are almost open air? Some of the guys dont even own any of the land they just have a deal to put up a shack and farm there for some time A breadfruit roasted on the same drum they make the pan-hang from. Generally the people are some of the most respectful and insightful people you can meet on Earth. Can be a true Nirvana depending on how you move and mingle. If you go looking for the undercurrent, its there. Like any country, but ultimately it has the most respect for people and philosophy that Ive ever experienced. Kingston has always had its own world sometimes referred to as Killtown. again .. search and you can find all levels. Bless

Well said, the Europeans tend to gave a globalist agenda to undermine every non-European nation with the exception of the ones that lean towards a communist/socialist form of governance. Look at how developed all of Europe is. But now that the Asian country of China 🇨🇳 decides to invest in Africa and the Caribbean, this cause a rift in the geopolitical order of things. For decades America has claimed to be a “friend” of Jamaica, but this “friend” who is wealthy would not so much as help its neighbor to build its infrastructure so that prosperity can be achieved. But rather try to keep Jamaica as a dependent friend/nation. The friend who delivers in action exposes that the so-called “friend” in words alone was not really a friend. Sure every superpower has some kind of angle for why they do things. It’s no different from a corporation which has an angle as to why they conduct business. Terms of agreement can either be agreed on or rejected. Jamaica is a nation with a very powerful history and influence on the world. And this scares America. The Haitian revolution was orchestrated by a Jamaican. Marcus Garvey is Jamaican. The apartheid in South Africa had no opposition as vocal as Jamaica was.
So as close as the relationship with Israel is to America . They are worried that Jamaica will be that close to the new superpower power.

When I was 23 years old I travelled to Jamaica with my sister. As an European I imagined I could travel the same way like you can in Europe. I just booked a flight, nothing else. We arrived at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, walked out the airport, basically with no clue where we gonna stay for the night. I didn't want to stay at the strip with all the fency hotels, so we just got a cab to Sam Sharp's square, in the area where you were filming. From there we walked to the end of Thompson Street and stayed at a local small hotel.
I remember walking these streets, people stopped with their daily activities, like playing dominos, chatting with their neighbors, even the stray dogs on the streets seemed to realize that we are white people who don't belong in these neighborhoods, so their eyes would follow us all the way down the street.
On the way to the hotel we had to eat something because we were so hungry, so we were looking for a place. One guy crossed the street and offered us help, we said we were looking for a nice restaurant to eat some real Jamaican food. He took us to local place, I invited him for dinner and couple of Red Stripe beers. I thought that would be enough for him. Aftet dinner he demanded 20$, which I didn't like, but gave him anyways. After that he decided it's still not enough and started following us on the streets. I really became terrified, it got dark already too. He asked caught up with us with another guy and said we still owe him more money fo his service. So I ended up giving him another 50$ I think, because he made it clear that he is not gonna let us go.
Some other guys would shout at me, 'Hey white man, I'm gonna take your girl away' or 'I am gonna rape your girl'.
So you can imagine how our first night at that hotel was. I was terrified that somebody gonna break in the door at night with a gun, because they followed us.
In the end we stayed 2 weeks in Jamaica, drove around the whole island just in route taxis from town to town. Even spent some time in Kingston.
But we learned not to trust people who come walking out of their way to help us.
It was a great experience overall, I would go back to Jamaica. But there are neighbourhoods which are better to be avoided

Would have loved to see a more balanced view and more context. I think this video, not sure if intentional, is more of a spotlight on the plight of poor people in Jamaica and in no way represents the full spectrum of Jamaican life. The title should be “Walking Jamaica’s Poorest Neighborhoods.” However with the catchy click bait and given the popularity of Jamaica as a tourist destination, pretty smart way to push up those numbers.

I was in Jamaica earlier this year and 100% agree with what you were saying about how they try to keep tourists on the resort, everything felt kind of scripted. The places they would tell us to check all seems to be money grabbing tourists traps. Also, our guide was telling us about how the cartel came down, not too long ago, and bought up most of the resorts and are using them to launder money. It’s a beautiful island with good hearted people it’s just still corrupted at the highest levels to the point it where money can buy you anything from a drivers license to building permit.

I'm a subscriber for a while. But I'll be honest, sometimes, if i haven't watched one of your vids for a while, my initial attitude is like, 'Another influencer, profiting on the suffering of others.' But then I watch it and I'm like, 'I'm glad I watched that. I know something now I didn't know before.' The gnarliest country I ever travelled in was Mozambique, 1998. Keep up the good work. If I weren't old and poor, I would still be out there going to places. When I look back and filter all my experiences, Mozambique and South Africa were the most memorable and it was directly related to the danger. It's like, when you're in these places, you're hyper aware of the dangers, but this hyper awareness seems to translate to being hyper aware of the beauty when you encounter it. You know? Like that shot of Montego Bay you include is just breathtaking. In Mozambique, I saw things that took my breath away. I will never forget them as long as I live. I could have gone to a safer destination like Botswana (and I would like to see that place), but I'm happy I went to Mozambique during that time.

Someone should tell him to go have a conversation with many Haitians who call Jamaica home. Yes there are quite a few Haitians in Jamaica who fled Haiti due to the violence there. For what it's worth I think this video is just exploiting people in lower class/poor communities. Haiti is a failed state while Jamaica is an emerging developing country.

To be honest you have local Jamaicans who build their TH-cam and other online platforms doing negative news about Jamaica. I have learned that you cannot compare Jamaica to any other island. There is so much happening that you can do or find anything you are looking for. The place is multi-faceted. Indigo Traveler could have easily done totally different videos about Jamaica. What is he covering? He’s trying to scrape the barrel to come up with incidents of the fear and violence that he set out to portray of Jamaica. He needs to realise that Jamaica isn’t Haiti - the only similarity being similar looking people! For a start the Jamaican government wouldn’t hesitate to send out the armed forces and police. They wouldn’t allow terrorists to walk their streets with long guns. They don’t mess about. So if he’s trying to portray Jamaica as another Haiti, he’ll have a long and unsuccessful scrape down to the bottom of that barrel!

We walked the hip strip downtown, took a trip to the mountains for a bamboo raft trip. I felt on edge sometimes because of people on the street competing over my business, really tried to enjoy the walk but couldn’t even stop to have a cigarette without being bothered by a shop owner. Very busy traffic as well. Had a blast though! I would probably go back haha 😂 we also played 18 holes at cinnamon hill.most of the locals were really cool and fun to be around!

Also if you are looking to vacation but dont want to fund the internation cooperations, try local motels and resorts, air bnbs,
Sandals is a pretty big resort, well known and owned locally by the Stewart Family (who I believe also own AC Hotels in Kingston, if your looking to stay there)

This channel is fascinating to me. I’ve visited a few Central American countries with my family in recent years, and it’s always been a goal of ours to experience as much of the real local culture as possible, and we’ve had some of the most incredible experiences doing so. Sure, there have been moments of uncertainty, but the experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. Incredible , even. That said, we’ve occasionally had guides point out some of the tougher areas and on one occasion even brought us through, but I think it’s important to see that side of a culture as well. Makes you appreciate everything you have in life. Staying at a resort and being confined to it is odd to me, but I understand that some people couldn’t be happier in that environment. I also understand that certain countries are more dangerous than others, but I want the culture, the atmosphere, the food, and even the occasional moments of uncertainty. No tourist gimmicks, please.

I absolutely love Jamaica, but of course, I don't see this side of it. I spend my time at Sandals resorts. What I love is the people. They are absolutely the most hospitable I have met in many places I've been. I do thank you for offering this side. Makes me want to help the workers I meet even more. One thing on my wish list is to spend a year as a teacher there. I presently teach computer science in the USA, but I'd love to offer my experience there in some way. Not sure how I could do that.
One thing I will point out, Sandals Resorts does dump money and support into the country, and the locals. Many times, I have brought school supplies with me and Sandals has a program that distributes it, but, Sandals was founded by Butch Stewart (RIP), who was a Jamaican.

Right. I am from Germany and have been to Jamaica over 15 times, stayed in the country not only at tourist places, also walked through Kingston, all the areas, and nobody ever harmed me.
I travelled in local buses and taxis and I never saw a crime or a robbery.
I wouldnt say, that doesnt exist, but Jamaica is not a war zone.
Thats why I am very dissapointed about this video. This is not, how life is in general in jamaica.
It shows only the the darkest side and wants us to believe, this is Jamaica.
Sorry, this is is not Jamaica. I wonder if he travells to germany and shows only the dark side what type of Video this be...😢
