I’ve caught many fish right there by the gas station! Bobber and jigs are more effective if you yup the river a ways fish off the island

I moved away from the PNW 15 years ago. Jack Mattice taught me that river and he was the man. I’ve never seen that hole that empty. Even in an off peak season that hole should have had several boats in it. If you ever need some dated pointers, let me know. It’s a fantastic river when managed properly.
That’s my childhood river and I can tell you that I haven’t honestly fished it for more than 5 years. Coho is the only decent season. The bank there when I was a little kid had hundreds of people all winter for steelhead. Not anymore!

You've been spending a lot of time around that river lately. I was down at Cathlamet the day before they closed the Columbia to Summer Steelhead. I was searching for a place to continue fishing and moved up to explore that river. I ran my boat from the mouth to just a few miles below the spot you're at in this video. I never marked a fish with my electronics that entire distance. After doing some study, I concluded that the Cowlitz would have been a much better choice for Summer Steelhead. That's where I'll be next year if they close the Columbia early.

This is North fork Lewis R South bank at the hatchery .
I have guided fishing here from the 1980's.
I was last here with my 28.5 foot jet boat in July 2021.
This river a boat is a must have because river access is extreme poor to none .

At your second spot you have to get out on the island. The fish run up the middle seam or up the backside seam behind the other island.

I wont say what river I think it is... but I need to check this river out next summer...No luck on the Sandy this summer. Went to Astoria last month fishing the big show but the swells were TOO high and someone got sick (not me) and so the jack chinook was thrown back and the other which was probably a Coho got off the line then we headed back over the bar and went home empty handed, again...Mel

I caught 2 on the sandy my first time ever there this year.
Come on down to Eastern Oregon our umatilla river has been prized for producing large brooder size steelhead thanks to our local tribal hatchery. Not only that, but they let us keep wild salmon on the river. Last year I caught a 39 inch steelhead that weighed 17 pounds

@@markleslie5687 yea that place is good fishing just crowded a lot. Excited to see how this year will go since our river flooded badly and deepened a lot of parts of the river for fish to rest in now.

Roman cole thanks , this was filmed with my old camera ! I bought a new camera and the quality is about to get so much better🤙 I’m stoked for it better video quality means more people will be happy oh and better audio haha. My dory video a week ago was filmed with the new camera 🎥

I know these spots aren't the most secretive, but a little respect/privacy to the people who have fished there for years would be much appreciated. I understand if someone learns the spot from a buddy, or if someone did research on Google maps, but TH-cam is not the right place to display this information.
J ORR these spots aren’t even that great . I bought my camera and intend to use it. I do my best these days to not blow up rivers with that being said
I understand that the "boat spot" isn't that good as it is a salmon hole, but the spots you banked fished are good and most people who fish there would agree.
