If your backup is saved to iCloud you do not need a computer, you'll be able to just download your backup from the cloud when you're ready. If your device was backed up to your computer through iTunes instead of to iCloud, then you would need the computer you backed it up to.

NO! What we want and NEED is a "command Z" You are scraping everything from the phone and then restoring from a backup. That is not recovering a deleted conversation, which may have occurred after the last back up. This is NOT HELPFUL !

Unfortunately Apple has not provided a feature that allows you to just "un-delete" so this is really the only option.

If you don't have a backup of your device from when the messages were still on your device, then you likely won't be able to get them back.

It’s sounds pretty straight forward, you can just do a backup on your phone RIGHT NOW, and then reset your phone.
Also make sure to write down all passwords to your accounts.
Than you can log back in to 2014 or 2016, to access your old photos. Simply airdrop them to your MacBook, or store them on another PC, then reset your phone AGAIN,
Then chose your latest backup in 2020, and you should have everything INClUDING your old messages on your MacBook/PC.

If you have a backup of your iPhone on your computer, you should still be able to do this with your iPhone connected to your computer and iTunes open. However, if you don't have a backup of your device saved anywhere, then there won't be any data to restore from. I think you said in a different comment to back it up before you do, but then in the video it says to select which back up you want to restore. We recommend you back up your device in its current state just in case you have any photos, etc. that you want to keep that wouldn't be in the previous backup (that has your deleted messages saved within it)
Does an iCloud backup also restore my notes and all?

If you sync your notes to iCloud before backing up, they'll be restored with the backup as well.

If you have your phone set to back up to iCloud automatically, it should have backed up several times since you enabled automatic back up. If you select "Back Up Now" it will start backing up your device including all your apps, photos, and files that are currently on your device.

If you restore your device from a backup, see the messages, and then restore from another backup, the messages that were in the older backup would not be carried over.

If you reset do you delete everything even you apps
If you reset your device, everything will be removed. However once you restore it from a backup, everything will be put back.

There is a chance that data from apps like games can be erased when you erase the content on your device, since many apps will need to be re-downloaded once you reset your device. However, if the game you're playing allows you to create an account and save your data to that account, you should be just fine - once you redownload the app and sign in again, your data would be there.

You can recover the conversation using the instructions in this tutorial video, or if you don't care to get those messages back and just want to have that contact listed in your recent messages, simply start a new conversation with that contact by opening Messages and clicking the new message icon in the top right corner.

If your contacts were backed up to iCloud at that time, any contacts that were on your list at the time of the backup should appear once you load that backup on to your device.

Yes you would reset your entire device and then restore the backup.
What about all txt and pics after that back up??
You would lose anything not included in that backup. Unfortunately it's a choice you'll have to make if you want the deleted message back.

When you reset your device, you may need to re-download some apps. To do so, simply open the app store and tap the Cloud icon beside any app you've previously downloaded.

Your social media messages should be tied to your social media account rather than to your device, so when you reset your device and sign back into your social media accounts, all your information, posts, and messages will still be there.

No, your current messages will not be there. Only messages that were on the device at the time of the backup will be on your device.

There's no other way to get the messages back
If I am looking for a text message that was sent/received and then deleted on the same day before the backup (most backup's happen late night) then the deleted messages wouldn't be there The only way this will work is if a text message was left on the phone over nite during a backup as it would be saved in that backup. Erasing the data off your hone only to find out the messages were not in a backup is going to piss someone off because then they will have to do the process again and restore the most current back up on their phone.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately there isn't really any way of knowing if the message is in the backup or not unless you go through this process.
@@techlifeunity It didn't happen to me. I was making a general statement as so many folks are looking for ways to get erased messages. I was pointing out that if someone receives a message and deletes it before a backup has taken place, that message is gone and there is no way to get it back. Just trying to save someone a headache that apple has caused with no real resource or way to help their customers. Yes you can link your kids phone to your account and get a copy of all their messages sent to your phone or mess around with the backup and restore thing in hopes that it was saved but if someone needs a text message for a legitimate reason like legal or proof of something and its deleted its a pain in the ass to get it back. This is the one thing they have failed at big time.
