Messages in recently deleted will be long gone, but if you have a saved backup from that time where the message was still on your device, you may be able to restore it.
But what if you don’t see Recently Deleted in Edit ? Am I to assume that this feature only works from a certain iPhone model & upwards? Although I’m sure you would’ve said that, probably at the beginning if that was the case , so not to sure what to do now🤷🏻♂️☹️
For those with iphone 13 there is no "edit" instead go to your list of messages.. on top left there is "Filters" press on it then select scroll down to "Recently Deleted" press, then you see all that you have recently deleted....you have the option of permanently deleting them or recovering them. I don’t have edit on my last message. And some messages have been deleted on that last message. I don’t even have an arrow to go back. What do I do to see all messages and deleted 0:00
If that happens you can try using the "shake to undo" function. Shake your iPhone and tap the Undo option that pops up. Unfortunately this can only be done right away, but if it ever happens again give that a try!
You will be reverting back to an old backup. You can back up your device as it stands currently before resetting, and you can always switch back to the newer backup instead. Just depends how important it is to you to get back the message stored in the older backup.

Same issue I have! No “recently deleted” option on screen after tapping Edit! Is there a step missing?

If I get a new phone will all of my recently deleted be there so I don’t have to reset my iPhone
If you back up your data and then transfer it to your new device, all your messages including recently deleted will still be there.
