Correction, please ! We Ethiopians have never said St George is Ethiopian. According to the Ethiopian Orthodox teaching, St George(we say giorgis not George) was born in Lydda, palestine. But in Ethiopia we have a great love and respect for St George as he did fought beside the Ethiopian army during the 1896 Ethiopia and Italy war, at the battle of Adwa !
In one of the Ethiopian Orthodox spiritual songs we used to say ' Giorgis, the king of Lydda, make an intercession to us with God'
