    Thanks so much. After first watching your videos a year ago, I finally re-watched them and got my KLS7218S to work with my Cyclone 3000w mid-drive. It was also my first attempt at battery building (20s5P), so the first power up was nerve racking. The motor didn't turn at first and just jittered, but I swapped two of the phase wires and it worked! Using your videos and the manual, I was able to get it programmed. Thanks again!

      Hi Vahid, Kelly has dozens of controllers models, check their website.
      The motor speed depends on motor characteristics and voltage supplied.

      Provably you are using a quite big motor so I suggest that you increase the "Motor Nominal Curr" from 80 (default) to 90 and try if your identification angle process if finalises ok.

    Hello, I have a electric scooter with 72181 Kelly controller , but work with 60v lead acid battery, can I connect 72v lithium battery (84v) to it without changing anything or need to change programming parameters?

    • @gonzalop.chomon327
      @gonzalop.chomon327  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      72 from the controller reference number means that it can work up to 72V nominal battery voltage. (Max. battery voltage around 85-90V). But I recommend that you confirm it by reading the manual.
      In order to make the controller work properly with a different voltage battery, or different kind of battery, you NEED to change the parameters at the controller for the new battery.

      @@gonzalop.chomon327 It's pretty clear what he meant. You said in the video Kelly does 80 to 200 Amps but it only pulls 80A from the Battery. The 200A are the Phase Amps that the motor sees at low Rpm. 80Ax72V is a max of 5760 Watts.
      If you just say 200A it could mean 200Ax72V wich would be a crazy 14400 Watts.

      @gonzalop.chomon327  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As you already have played with the parameters in your controller, first make sure that in the App you are using hall sensors parameter (Your motor has hall sensors)
      Then you need need to make the motor turn.
      There is 36 different combinations of how to connect the cables of the motor and the hall sensors.
      It only works in 6 of those 36 combinations. this is done by try and error.
      When you see that the motor turns (does not matter what direction) DO NOT TRY TO GO FULL SPEED.
      After that you have to do all the proceedings explained in the video.

    Gonzalo, I am thinking of buying a sensorless Kelly controller but I am not sure because I am trying to reach 100000rpm and I dont understand the formula they use. they say eRPM = RPMxPolePairs. Their sensorless controller is rated 17000eRPM therefore if I want to spin a 4pole motor, I could only go as high as 17000/(2 pairs) = 8500rpm. Does that make sense ? Thanks in advance for your time.

      Hi marcotstrere, Yes you are right. As per Kellycontrollers info their sensorless versions are up to 17000 eRPM so, yes if your motor is a four pole then up to 8500 RPM. And looks that they do not have a HiRevs. version.

      The biggests differences that I find between the KLS and the KEB are:
      - Less noise from the motor
      - Smoother responses (due to more parameters that can be tweaked)
      - More functionalities
      - But still missing the PAS (Pedal Assist Sensor) function.

      Hi Cristian.
      - First of all here is where you can download the latest manual: kellycontroller.com/wp-content/uploads/kbs/KellyKBS-XUserManual.pdf
      - On pages 10 and 11 you got clear schematics about the connections.
      - For the throttle: Pin 20 is ground (usually black cable in throttle) Pin 4 is 5V (usually the red cable in the throttle) and Pin 3 is the signal from the throttle (usually white cable in the throttle but can be other colour)
      - For what they call "acceleration switch", I think they refer to a dead's man switch, latter they call it in the manual foot switch. I talk in the video about it. You can use it or not as it can be enabled or not.
      - (Pin 11) 12V out, this to use just in case that some sensors may require 12V instead of 5V (Do NOT use it to feed other vehicle systems as it gives very little current)
      - With 72V I recommend that you use a resistor precharge system.
      - You can add a capacitor at the entrance of the controller if the distance from the battery to the controller is very large. But this will make even more necessary the precharge system.

    Hi Gonzalo, thanks for the tutorials. wondering whether u be making a wiring video as mentioned? ive got a KBS72181AE and the manual reads 'All contactors or circuit breakers in the B+ line must have precharge resistors across their
    contacts', but it doesnt seem like you have and im hoping there will video to enlighten this matter with other systems like the regen braking. tqvm for reading

      No I have not used any prechager system, that is why you can listen the sparking on the videos. The model used for the video is quite small so it is possible to skip the precharge at cost of replacing connectors or switches occasionally. But for bigger controllers precharge resistor or other system is a must.
      You can find info about the regen braking on the following videos:

      @@gonzalop.chomon327 hi again Gonzalo. I wired my KBS72181AE like u did and applied very low throttle. The motor turned for a few seconds but then the controller overheated and shut down. After letting some time to cool I tried again but the Led indicated there's too much voltage into the controller. I suspect it could be my wire running from the battery to the pink wire 7 being not the right size and resistance maybe? What's the right awg then? Thanks

    • @gonzalop.chomon327
      @gonzalop.chomon327  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@guumballl Pin 7 is just the "switch on" signal, it does not need any kind of big load cable.
      If controller heated up in just a few seconds, something must be done badly.
      Check everything with the schematics in the controller manual making sure that all is connected in the right way. And of course make sure that the battery voltage is not over the controller limit (90V for your model)

      @@gonzalop.chomon327 the wire to pink is also the source for the controller no? (Beacuse it is running parallel with the battery) . I'm using a fairly thin wire (but is thicker than the pink one) and my battery is 6s anyway so around 22v + only. What else could be the problem?

    Hi, and thanks for the tutorials. So, I have a KLS7212S with 48v/1000w motor and 52v/16ah/30amp battery. What do you reccomend for battery current setting? Also is there a setting to make acceleration faster, the throttle feels so slow at first...then ramps up. Might need fast acceleration for an emergency. Thanks.

    • @gonzalop.chomon327
      @gonzalop.chomon327  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the battery is able to deliver 30A as you described, then set it at 30A (You need to make the calculations to transform it to % )
      For more acceleration change the PID numbers. I talk about it at 3rd video.

      The errors that you report are the following:
      1-3 Low battery voltage: Charge battery and check battery voltage limits at software.
      3-3 Faulty throttle: Check the throttle device and replace if faulty, as well check threshold limits of throttle.
      3-4 Problem with hall sensors: Check if hall sensors are ok, Check connections, Select the correct type of sensors, Proceed to make the hall sensor identification angle procedure.
