@@TheKenji2221 "Obviously" is a bit of a stretch considering the advert clip on the Amazon purchase page touts a unique "highly efficient 'chimney' design with unique airflow-optimized layout" (1:10). They've even included a full-size GFX card model in the animation render. The case is gorgeous, but there needed to be a significantly greater number of bottom intake holes with taller base feet, while also having a larger gap between the top plate and the recessed exhaust outlet - this could all be done in such a way to where the user can't actually see any difference. Everything could be extended a bit with the outer shell covering what's going on behind-the-scenes. Also, considering the door panels are machined from [what I assume is] solid aluminum plate, very shallow ribs could have been incorporated along the inner surface to provide increased rigidity to prevent such easy bending.
I've got to disagree, that cooling is going to struggle to be "adequate" for most gaming systems but I kinda feel like you knew this and that's why there's no temperature tests.. It's extremely odd how much you focused on airflow and thermals and potential performance without any actual numerical data. Love ya Jay, but this was a miss.
Exactly. Measuring airflow is pointless if you have no controls over *what* that air is flowing over. By far the biggest flaw with this case is inadequate intake for the GPU at the bottom. It would really benefit if the feet and bottom panel were just bigger so more air could get in there. As it is now you're mostly going to be pulling air in through the side and then out the top, which doesn't help cool the GPU at all. I should note that other channels that actually did temperature tests saw *horrible* GPU thermals in this case.
I agree, but I guess different people have different ideas about what counts as 'adequate'. The H510 is an extremely popular case, but I'd never buy one due to the restrictive airflow. About the only SFF case that really appeals to me is the sliger SM580, only problem is that I think the side ventilation pattern looks hideous. If they'd have gone with mesh like the sidearm T1 I'd be picking one up for sure.
My assumption is that the GPU will be significantly choked off by those tiny, filtered intake slots at the bottom of the case. I can't imagine you will get great GPU temps in that case.

Jay, I don't think you will see a glass side panel version of this case. Because of the curves portion on the side panels. And it would add weight to it. I like the cobalt blue. And they are available up north in Canada at $229.99 CAD
At that cost, might as well get the Laser3D LZ7 XTD kit, similar spacing for parts + configurability for WAY more airflow (downside of potentially more dust), but just a slight amount more money. But, ITX definitely goes boutique on their pricing/style, glad to see a large manufacturer trying to bring it more mainstream.
It's been verified that you intake air IN through the top. Otherwise you run 10 degrees c higher temps. Exhausting air out through the top would only work well if you got a perforated top panel (not solid).
It's sad that GN doesn't review ITX cases anymore. It would be useful to have Steve eviscerate this case for these airflow issues given the advertising material mentions "optimal airflow". Steve's influence over the tech youtuber space at least pushes others to bring up airflow.
@@vernacular3289 I watched the Hardware Canucks video about this case, and even they were like "yeah, nah, no airflow." they took the bottom right off and propped it up, which appeared to be the only way not to cook a video card.
They need to space the top panel more and create a better ventilated bottom, vertical vent holes at the rear where the PSU/SSD rack is with provisions for 120mm fans and finally a tempered glass panel at the front then it should be okay
probably the best small form factor case but in terms of cable management design (espacially on MB i/o panel exterior) the rog Z11 is still an incredible masterpiece to me
I've been recently looking at one of these but I knew cooling might be an issue. This is definitely the video I needed to see. Knowing I'd probably have to invest in custom cables to make the power supply cabling nice and tidy is good to know as well.
It needs modding. Rotate power supply 90 degreees , add pcie extention and mount graphycs card vertically and it should get a ton more airflow. weird that they didn't do that.
Hmm ... I almost wonder if having the top fans as intake might actually be better for this case. Cold air for a CPU air cooler. Pressurize the inside. Let the dinky exhaust fan and the side panels do the dirty when the top and bottom intakes meet in the middle. I don't know. This thing is weird. It needs like a major trial and error smoke test or something.
Jay: Did you ever feel that you were trying to put ten pounds of &%$# in a five pound box? ANS: yes, you were. To make a computer case, the first order force to deal with is heat. Form follows function. Now, you didn't design this case; 'they' did. So, how could it be made more cool efficient while still being fully functional? Aesthetics is in a far third place at this stage. So hot air wants to rise and expand; that is just a physical law that cannot be broken. Sooo - design a case with a mach up using cardboard or wood using essential parts (on/off sw, reset sw, led lights, usb, etc...) to make it complete from parts using an old case. So a case should have an opening at the bottom that funnels up to a larger space at the top of the case. Think of a tilted square sided funnel; or a variation of that theme. Power supply on the bottom and intake fans on the bottom. The biggest issue you will find is the 'wall' that the video card creates that impedes air flow and is inefficient and impedes mass air flow. While at the same time needing efficiency to remove heat from itself and what it has added to the overall heat buildup. HINTS: fans on top of the case in a direct push-pull configuration will be boosted by any fan on the bottom. Basically, you turn the bottom of the case into the opening of a vacuum cleaner. I've been able to use a Fractal 'G' case move mountains of air quietly and keep an 8700K run at 4.9ghz w/o any issue using these requirements. . . Some thoughts
Thinking of finally getting a new case and I think this might be it. Only issues would be the going from a Coolermaster HAF 935 to an ITX case would raise major problems of space. I want a small pc but I have 5 drives and a be quiet DRP4 tower cooler. I would need to downsize my cooler and hard drives and PSU. drives at the 2TB+ mark are damn expensive and I would want to go for a water cooler in a case this small.
Jay, you went wayyyy to easy on Fractal this time, bordering on shilling. This case just sucks, there's no ventilation, a moderate CPU without GPU will thermal throttle. It's crazy easy to damage. The aesthetics are "meh" at best. And the cost is way above where it should be. Nobody should buy this case.
Why not go with a pos pressure build and have the top be intake as well, pushing out through the back fan and open holes along the sides? that's worked great for me.
Love Fractal cases, I have r6 and don't see any problems with solid panels. Sometimes its important to case be silent and look cool. But one thing what I don't like that fractal small cases usually have only 2 slot for GPU
You could do a universal gpu block so you could run the fittings out the front so the only thing that bottom bit is cooling is the vrm's and have the rads on top
I love it, I bought this case for a friend's build. They love it, I wouldn't use this for some crazy super gaming build but someone who wants something small and functional.
This definitely looks like something that would be integrated as a HTPC or a run of the mill system especially with the optional wood grain panel. People automatically get aftermarket coolers for their cpu's so with that in mind the cooling should be fine. The wood panel looks like it's a fair distance from the fans at the top and would allow adequate cooling.

It's been verified that you intake air IN through the top. Otherwise you run 10 degrees c higher temps. Exhausting air out through the top would only work well if you got a perforated top panel (not solid).
*Phanteks Evolv Shift, and NZXT H1 has entered the chat. *
Jay you should get the wood panel CNC'ed with a bunch of tiny wholes for ventilation
“But ...I Digress” shirt or RIOT
I wonder if noctua fans would have done better? I was struggling with my PC cooling and then i bought the 2000 rpm High Static fans. SOOOO happy.
Steve would tear this thing apart lol
Especially with the out-of-the-box testing.... one 80mm fan? Yeah, that easy-bake oven won't do well. :)
They need to space the top panel more and create a better ventilated bottom, vertical vent holes at the rear where the PSU/SSD rack is with provisions for 120mm fans and finally a tempered glass panel at the front then it should be okay
lmao,.. I need that shirt,.. every conversation is an adventure lol
Even 2 triangular cutouts for glass inserts on both sides of the vent holes on 1 side panel would make a world of difference as a display case.
for anyone building an ITX machine: please don't buy this. there's almost no room for airflow.
probably the best small form factor case but in terms of cable management design (espacially on MB i/o panel exterior) the rog Z11 is still an incredible masterpiece to me
"take this to the PHILlippines amirite PHIL?" *yes* :D
I've been recently looking at one of these but I knew cooling might be an issue. This is definitely the video I needed to see. Knowing I'd probably have to invest in custom cables to make the power supply cabling nice and tidy is good to know as well.
10:30 JUST DO IT!!
It needs modding. Rotate power supply 90 degreees , add pcie extention and mount graphycs card vertically and it should get a ton more airflow. weird that they didn't do that.
"It's actually kinda small" I cry every tiem
Meshify C is slightly bigger and it's matx. Have that and it's great to fit a full size graphics card too. Great to build in it too.
Let me know when MrsJazToSents opens up a merch store. Is just different enough to get around copyright. Lol. Mrs is deliberate
Jay:
Did you ever feel that you were trying to put ten pounds of &%$# in a five pound box?
3 seconds in: THATS WHAT SHE SAID
when you use the new alphacool coolers you can integrate a gou in this loop, theyr have the fittings on the bottom side and no Terminal for them.
20:00 according to Harwarecanucks testing, the airflow is NOT adequate. Part of the issue is the floor panel chokes out the GPU as well
Why not go with a pos pressure build and have the top be intake as well, pushing out through the back fan and open holes along the sides? that's worked great for me.
This seems like the perfect time for a set of handmade custom cables. I'd like to see more DIYers doing their own cable sleeving!
I think they should have made vertical slits on the wood, I think that would look pretty good and would enhance airflow.
