    First time i flew the PMDG 737 was in FS9 back in 2006 or so. Today, 16 years later, I will finally understand what CWS means. Never cared about it before. :D Thank you!! :)

      haha, one always learns something new in the PMDGs! I for instance only recently discovered the clickspots on the speed brake and flap lever that allow you to move them instantly to the position where you want them (DOWN DETENT, FLT DETENT, etc.). There's always something new to discover in these planes!

    As somebody who flies FBW jets in DCS all the time, I find CWS to be pretty intuitive and its my preferred way to fly outside of CMD mode. This video was super helpful for learning the finer points of it, thank you!

    I like the way CWS is implemented on the Embraer 145. The control wheel has a button marked 'TCS' (touch control steering) that temporarily enables CWS if you hold it, and the autopilot maintains the attitude you set after you let it go. When any lateral or vertical modes are selected, the AP will revert to following that mode when you're not using TCS.
    It's very useful to make short corrections to your flight path without having to disengage/re-engage the AP every time.

    In my aircraft (not the 737) IRL when I fly vfr I put in cws to maintain level attitude and bug 200 ft below cruise alt to reduce the autopilot randomly diving and climbing for up and down drafts, to increase general comfort and reduce pilot fatigue

    I use CWS when flying pure raw data/manual sectors. Just eases the workload a little. One man in a cockpit for full raw sector is hard enough as it is.

    Great video.
    Although, the statement that CWS is essentially exactly what an Airbus does isn't right.
    Airbus flybywire Normal law is designed to maintain aircraft trajectory, not attitude.
    As an example, if you decelerate in level flight in an airbus, the aircraft will keep raising the attitude to maintain the initial trajectory. So it doesn't maintain attitude, just trajectory.

    I think in the 737-200 CWS was the primary autopilot mode, atleast in the old pre 200adv of the Tinmouse Add On for FS9.

    • @chris22capt
      @chris22capt ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is. That's the SP-77 for you. The autopilot can managed the lateral mode fully automatically but the only pitch can do automatically is to hold the altitude. You have to use cws for climb and descent. Only few got the new SP-177 (production 1982 and above) which has full automation capability, new autothrottle, and autoland capable.

    Thanks Emi.. learned something again today. Could you possibly do a future video on the stabilizer trim switches ? At the bottom of the pedastil there's a guarded switch for norm or override. And just below the flap lever there's more switches related to that. Im asking because I want to disengage all the automatic trim when making a real manual approach..

    • @tomstravels520
      @tomstravels520 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no automatic trim with autopilot off, it's all done by the switches on the yoke

    • @Stoney3K
      @Stoney3K ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those switches only select which drive motor is used for the stabilizer trim. With all of them off, you are going to have to crank the huge wheel on the side of the pedestal by hand.

      Airspeed between 100 KIAS and Mach 0.5

      5 seconds following release of trim switches
      Autopilot not engaged

    When deploying the flaps, is the aircraft pitching up or down ? and why?
    And when the aircraft is losing speed why does it pitch down ?

    • @IIBL4D3II
      @IIBL4D3II ปีที่แล้ว

      Deploying flaps should make the airplane pitch up due to increasing lift. But since extending flaps will also move the center of pressure to the back, the nose of the aircraft will be lower than when on level flight.
