Great insights Brian..in NZ South Island we do fish extremely small flies for large spooky browns with leaders between 15ft - 18ft...spot on with the longer leaders.
I live in North central Arkansas and this helped me a lot. I fly fish for walleye and when it's windy i put on a shorter leader. Its a smaller river so the shorter leader helps with that as well. Do you happen to have any other suggestions or help for me to be more successful with this sir?
Thanks for watching. Feel free to e-mail or call Brian at the shop with any questions or to discuss. He's always happy to help....but doesn't monitor the comments here.
So, heavier the fly, the shorter the leader i fish shallowish river waters for those walleye. There are deep pools, so lets just say the depth is always changing. So what line should i use?
There is a bell curve test that Brian has shown in quite a few videos. Just search "Leader Videos" here on the channel. You can also e-mail or call Brian and he'll be happy to help you out. Tell him what line you have and what type of leader you are looking to make and he'll tell you what to use.
If you have a fly line with long front taper as rio LT with 18 feet front taper vs Rio gold with 5 feet front taper then the rule of the leader to be the same as the fly rod might not apply. 🤔
He has made dozens of videos on saltwater leaders…which is really the exact same as a bass leader just alil shorter for most people. If you look up all his leader videos youll find that they focus the least on trout!
Ditto. He does have dozens of videos on leaders....very few on trout actually. Feel free to call him or e-mail him at the shop with any questions as well. He's always happy to help. Thanks.
All this talk about leaders is great. However, where is that boring book on leaders that has been talked about for years? There must be a reason that this book is not available.
I am new to fly fishing and these videos are the most informative resource available.
Thanks for being here and happy to hear that!
Another very informative video, especially for us rookies. Thanks, Brian.
Thanks for watching.

What about dry dropper or hopper dropper? Should I shorten my leader on a windy day?
Please contact Brian directly through the shop with any and all questions. You can e-mail him or call him and he's always happy to help! Thanks!

I liked this video just for Brian’s math skills
Impressive eh? Thanks for watching.
How do you match stiffness of the butt section to the fly line

Any news on the book he was working on? 😁
Haven't heard anything lately. Feel free to check with him though.

That’s why he called it a guideline and not a rule! 😉Thanks for watching.
Keep your tippet length 209 degrees of your leader length............. Nice penmanship, Brian!!!!!
Certainly he meant otherwise? Did he say that?
He said approx 20% ( approx twenty percent).
I know- bad joke on my part. Go to 5:25 mark, it looks like he has written "209" degrees. Sorry, internet police@@DaiHGowerWales
Brian, how about a video on saltwater or bass leaders? Not all of us are trout fishers. Thanks for this great, informative video.
