One of the few adaptations of a Lovecraft story that is true to the original. So many are set in different locations and time periods from the original stories with vastly different plots

Brilliant and so true to the Lovecraft tale that I most thoroughly enjoyed this! BRAVO!

There actually were no grisly visuals, it was all "suggested". Still, the atmosphere was heavily disturbing. What a story!

The fact that some of the actors were playing multiple roles made the narrative a bit confusing to follow but it was a most excellent production!

Truly remarkable level of detail and adhesion to the original work. Best adaptation of Lovecraft's work I've seen so far and the fact that there are quite a few of them makes it even more prominent. What I noticed is that you made woman the narrator even though it's no secret the majority of Lovecraft's stories featured predominantly male characters.

    VERY well done .
I have had something of a running fight with the snake people myself over the years .
When I was younger , they seemed to seek me out .
Whether on foot , horseback or pickup truck , I always seemed to find them .
I’m not sure what started their feud with me ...
At first they tried stealth , hiding in odd places and the dark corners ... trying to get close enough to hit me ...
    Sneaky and sly ...
In pipes and under things ...
    I killed so many ... with pistol , rifle , clubs , machetes ... garden tools .
I helped dynamite snake dens , and killed as many as I could .
It must have been in the hundreds over my lifetime .
For a while , it was almost as if they were young and foolish boys , trying to make their reputation by challenging an old gunman ...
Many people remarked how some would come out of the brush , rattling to beat the band ... heading straight for me ... out of nowhere .
    Wanting a fight .
They were medium sized , fairly young and fast ... so many of them ...
I would oblige them with rifle or pistol .
I guess the brave ones ran out , or got smarter ... they don’t do that anymore .
Then it changed ... some would panic , going away from me like I was the Devil himself ...
Folks didn’t believe that until some saw it for themselves ...
The fear was real ... you could see it .
I used to have dreams full of snakes ... in old houses or rock piles ... and I would be killing them ... like a battle in a war .
    Shooting over and over ...
I only seem to find old ones now , once in a great while ... big and menacing , sinuous... but slow and tired .
Old and ready to move on to the spirit world ...
They don’t even threaten ....I’ll find them just lying there , in the open ... quietly , watching , waiting for me to send them on .
I don’t hate them anymore , I almost feel sad for them .
Not that I would ever give them a shot at me , on purpose ... or let one go , to bite someone else .
Their time here is done .
The wild frontier is finished .
The magic is dying in the land , it’s all settled , paved over and cut up by roads and fences ... it’s a place for people now , not wild things .
There are fewer every year .
Some folks have never even seen one in real life .
But they were a proud foe in their day ... vicious and frightening... determined in their cold , alien , serpent way ...
With their beautiful markings , almost jewel like scales ... powerful muscled bodies ... empty shining eyes , flickering tongues , and needle sharp fangs ... that broad , powerful arrowhead shape of their faces ...
The almost cynical , cruel smile at the slightly upturned corners of their mouths ...
The faint smell that is unmistakable ...
Natural born , cold blooded killers ...
murderers of pets , small children and women ...
I’m not sorry for what I’ve done ... their tribe and mine were natural enemies ...

killingjokefilms Thanks for taking the time to reply, I adore Lovecraft but to be honest I usually steer clear of shorts done on his stuff...So I'm especially grateful to fate , and very glad to have seen yours at all , as it came on automatically , early hours of last night , after a Lovecraft audio I was listening to finished while I was sleeping... I woke up and went to go to my playlists for something audio , when your female leads voice , then her acting caught my attention and imagination. I loved her. Great stuff all round. ,. Which can't always be said about Lovecraftian efforts eh?!! 😋

    • @killingjokefilms
      @killingjokefilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Hmmmmm . . . good question. If I remember correctly the writer and I thought the dog 'bursting' would be too over the top for the more somber tone we were going for. In retrospect I'm also glad we didn't because I think that would have been a cheap way to gain empathy for the scene and moment. The old adage of using babies or pets for emotional connection and all that.

a little criticism here - you got a lot of lovecraft lore a little wrong. I don't recall yig being half human. .. that's like saying cthulhu is half dragon it's just wrong , he's a humanoid creature but not a snake neither a human. and besides that yig would have just Killed them because they know to much about him.

Why do people always feel the need to change the sex of main characters anymore, very PC I know. The fact is it is beyond unlikely that a woman in the twenties would have done the things this character is said to have done, been able to travel freely and alone in the Southwest, interviewed and or received any information from the native people, or have received the cooperation or information from the head of the asylum. I'm sorry but those are the facts of the time and place, not to mention IT WAS WRITTEN AS A MAN.
