I know this was made quite a while ago, but I just wanted to say that this story is one of my favorite from Lovecraft, and you adapted it perfectly! The stop-motion puppetry is something that I never even considered before, and it works so well! I always liked how the Earthen Gods couldn't keep an old man from finding them at the top of a mountain, and had to tell on him to Nyarlathotep and Friends.
Thank you :) I am, of course, dedicated to the craft of stop-motion, simply because I just like the look and feel of it. But I also think that it can be used as a great tool for both telling stories and achieving atmosphere.
Wow...so many great effects. The main room was wonderfully decorated. The costumes were super great. Some of the rock climbing shots really looked great. The puppets showed up in full force and were grand. They were pretty scary beasts. This is a very well-put together little film. Congrats to everyone involved.
bluworm When it comes to one guy staring at shub niggurath and nyarlathotep making out since they're a married couple joins in on their anniversery, OH BOY HE'S IN FOR A MADDENING TREAT!
Another H.P.Lovecraft for all to enjoy, with some more narration from myself. Some truly wonderful animation work in this one :D Can't wait to do more!!!
As a lifelong Lovecraftian, I have imagined some pretty strange stuff while reading the stories numerous times over the years. And in my miss-spent youth, I had done just about every drug there was to be had at least once. But THIS is a mind-fuck of the highest order! I shall now have the one thing I have never had -- NIGHTMARES!! Well done!
I am a huge Lovecraft fan with a very visual imagination. I have read and re-read his stories since I was a teenager. You do a great job of bringing his stories to life, keeping true to the original spirit of the stories. I think Lovecraft would be well pleased with your work. I look forward with anticipation to seeing more from you in the future.
+David Wilbanks Many thanks! My adaptations are far from perfect, but I want to show that you can reach quite far even with a tiny budget and small resources. I love the exotic ideas and cosmic scope of Lovecraft's imagination, and that's what i want to try and capture. There are more Lovecraftian stuff in the works, so keep a look out :)
This is the first of the beautiful world's created by Seven that I knew of. In the past years, thru loss grief joy and simply growing older, I have had a place to go when I need a break from reality. Thank you Sven.
That's high praise indeed; thanks! I hope to make more strange worlds for you to explore :) It's Richard, not Sven -but I don't mind :) Sven was my granddad.
I love how this feels like one of those old cheesy Christian shows from the 80s and 90s. Like if Lovecraft was a real religion these would be the kind of shorts we would have to teach kids not to fuck with the Outer Gods. And instead of Bible Man we'd have Necronomicon Man.
Sorry! I momentarily forgot how Reddit organizes its sub-reddits. There are a couple of Lovecraftian sub-reddits, but the BIGGIE is found at www.reddit.com/r/lovecraft
I don't know what to say. It was clearly done on a little budget but it was so high concept and the pacing, puppets and dialogue were fantastic. This was an incredibly faithful film to Lovecraft's writing. It is startling that Hollywood has has a hundred years and has been largely unable to do justice to Lovecraft' and here somebody with a green screen and some animation skills totally nails the original story.
Thank you! You can only make an adaptation as you see it, and this is how I saw it. What I was hoping to capture was what fantasy was back in the days of Lovecraft, when the genre was still being molded, and was very influenced by the Orient. That vintage type of fantasy is almost forgotten today, but you can see snippets of it in the various comic and movie adaptations of the Conan stories. And I wanted to show that it can actually be done with virtually no money and with simple equipment. I'm glad you were entertained by it :)
Many thanks! :) I don't have big resources to work with, but I like traditional visual effects, and I try to emulate the look of older fantasy films, as well as being inspired by various illustrators.

I actually really liked the movie adaptation, and it was, apparently, approved by Douglas Adams himself. Making short films based on the hitchhiker universe would be excellent fun, but you know.. Copyrights and all.
While your stop-motion is gorgeous (As always), I do wish you'd try to integrate the lighting on the actors with the lighting scheme of the green-screen backdrops a bit more naturaly-looking-ly, if you get what I mean.
Though, I will say, the lighting on the actors looks more natural near the end than in the beginning. Did you shoot this in order of plot and try and tinker with your techniques as you went along? Also, any chance of you ever trying to collaborate with Lee Hardcastle? I'd love to see you two try your hands at making a Harryhausen-type stop-motion feature-length creature-feature together!
Thomas Johnson Yes, you're certainly right about the lighting. My set up is as primitive as it can be and we were working in a very cramped space. I'm trying to fix that for the next project. If the look grows better towards the end it's a complete coincidence :)
Great work! I always want to know what do "Gods of Earth" look like. I wonder if some of the gods from real world mythologies actually included as members of "God's of Earth". Put that aside, the original work gives me a vibe similar to Lord Dunsany's works, especially Gods of Pegana , albeit darker.
Nice version of Nyarlathotep in his Bloody Tongue guise! I always thought of the Gods of Earth as being humanoid - much like Zeus and co - but this works too, and it's great to see a different interpretation. There's a great contrast between the ethereal, radiant gods of Earth, and the more harshly defined Other Gods.
+Phil Smith My original plan was actually to have the Gods of the Earth as humanoids, but then I decided I wanted something much more abstract, but beautiful. The Other Gods were always going to be stop-motion monstrosities to totally set them apart. Glad you enjoyed it :)
greetings from Boston and Providence so it's Halloween night what else would I be doing except watching some of the best claymation HP Lovecraft stories ever made LOL I miss you brother I hope you working hard on all kinds of new stuff Rudy. I know I promised you it's been a really tough year I actually got hurt at work so it's been tough for me to get around but I want to go down to Providence and do a shot or at least send you the thumb drive with a bunch of really really cool shots of Providence so you have a much better idea of what it looked like then and now but until then Happy Halloween my friend I love you work keep doing it and just know there's those of us out here. Just so appreciate what you do your true artist thank you so much love you bro Rudy
Hello Rudy! There's no rush with the photos. It would be nice to have eventually, if I choose to go really into Lovecraft country :) Sorry to hear that life's not treating you the kindest way. Nowadays I'm very busy juggling two day jobs, and sometimes they spill over into the weekends. So it's not easy to be active here on TH-cam. But yes; I am working on new projects whenever I can find the time. Hope you had a great Halloween, and thanks for spreading the word about my stuff!
Late to the party here, but just a heads-up: When "learned" is used as an adjective it is pronounced "Learn-ed", with the "ed" sounding like in "Driver's Ed".

I've waited a long time for this and its brilliant as usual!
***** Glad you enjoyed it! :D
This was really cool animation. I loved it. 🙂 thanks
Thanks for watching! :)
I'm glad you mention Lord Dunsany, because he's another of my favorite fantasists :)
would be cool also if you did Cats of Ulthar. where are the cats here by the way? :)
In retrospect I should've added a few cats to the tower "set".
Fantastiskt!
greetings from Boston and Providence so it's Halloween night what else would I be doing except watching some of the best claymation HP Lovecraft stories ever made LOL I miss you brother I hope you working hard on all kinds of new stuff Rudy. I'm actually sitting here with a new friend who I turned on to some of your videos and quite sure she like them as much as I do brother you capture the essence of Lovecraft like no one else.
Your stopmotion creatures are great!
Thank you! Glad you enjoy my little beasties :)
Loved the presentation! Surprisingly creepy as well.
Thank you! Really glad you enoyed this :)
love it as the past mini movie. i think you do the best adaptations of Lovecraft
fantom6150 Thank you! :) I do the best I can with the resources I have.
Late to the party here, but just a heads-up: When "learned" is used as an adjective it is pronounced "Learn-ed", with the "ed" sounding like in "Driver's Ed".
Got it :)
Excellent job with the animation.
