    Been on daily cod liver oil since I was a child and we always had liver once a week as a child and at 70 I continue this routine. Waitresses used to laugh when my 5 year old would order liver instead of the junky food from the childrens menu. My mother was a dietitian and believed strongly in daily cod liver oil.

      When you have acne or period pain you will see the benefits very visibly. Apart from that Omega 3 helps our body on the inside so it’s hard to realise the benefit. Also, it’s a supplement not a medicine how can you expect to see something out of it overnight…

    I usually incorporate all three! I eat salmon a few times a week. I also take salmon oil, algae oil along with cod liver oil. All of those incorporated through out the week. Does wonders! I’ve developed arthritis in one of my knees. It brings the inflammation and pain down ten fold! My mood is always great, my dreams are crazy vivid! Which I assume is due to better brain health these oils bring. My mental clarity is much better, I also notice my hair grows much thicker, I’m a red head so the color gets more vibrant as well, my skin is usually clearer. These oils are a godsend.

    Thank you Dr. Berg. I am now 64, going on 65. I used to take 3-6-9 fish oil capsules, and even with those I was able to get rid of my prescription glasses, but I later learned that omega 3 is much better. In recent years the capsule gave me an upset stomach, so now I prefer Cod liver oil in liquid form; and now the thyroid meds are going down. As well, my all-round-health is improving. Someone here in comments mentioned better dreams at night, and I agree. Omega 3 fish oil was the first massive step in being able to live a normal life after years of rising inflammation and pain from chronic lyme disease. This isn't to say Omega3>Cod liver or vice versa, just that there are massive benefits to both, so whichever one you pick, it will have benefits.

    • @C2HGaming
      @C2HGaming ปีที่แล้ว

      Question. When they say take it daily or can you risk a missed day? Also, is it just one pill a day? The bottle says take 3 daily.
      Also do you still need it if you no longer feel pain?

    • @jonl7855
      @jonl7855 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@C2HGaming Fish/Cod oil takes a long time to build up for chronic inflammation, so missing one day here and there is fine.
      Dosages/amounts of pills are different depending on who you ask, and the amount on the bottle is generally only a recommendation, and on the lower side.
      When I started, I was getting about 4-5g(4000-5000mg) of total fish oil per day for about a year. EPA and DHA were about equally distributed.
      Some people will say that’s too much, my doctor said it was fine, Andrew Huberman says it’s fine. It was fine for me. I’m sure many people will also say that’s too much.
      For me, I was in tremendous pain, and just wanted to do as much as I could.
      Yes, if you only take one pill, or simply not as much as you need, you might not get all the benefits, or it might take longer to get those benefits.
      As for the last question, if you have some condition, and treat the underlying condition while using fish oil, then the source of inflammation would be solved, and the pain should not come back.
      Note: I say treat WHILE USING, and not treat it with fish oil. These are two separate things.
      However it’s way too complicated to say what will happen. Also, even if the underlying problem isn’t solved, it doesn’t mean that it will come back or it won’t.
      (At least I can say that the pain won’t come right back 1 week after you stop)

    The caveat I would add to your preference of cod liver oil is that to reach a combined level of EPA and DHA of 5g daily with cod liver oil, you’re getting a LOT of Vitamin A, which can become toxic. As for the seemingly high amount of Omega-3s, more and more studies are coming out supporting the benefits of such (relative) high dose

    • @Sp3cTR2k7
      @Sp3cTR2k7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Especially true if you already take other supplements or a Multivitamin. Then Vitamin A (and also D) overdosing (both are fat soluble vitamins accumulated in the liver) can become an issue, which should definitely be pointed out for completeness by a medical professional!

      You have to be very careful to read the back of the product a lot of cod liver oil supplements add additional vitamin A and D.
      The synthetic versions of these vitamins can cause those symptoms especially since they are taken in much higher doses than naturally occurring in cod liver.

      High doses of Vitamin A can induce apoptosis (programmatic cell death) which essentially is your body getting rid of unhealthy or damaged cells. If you haven’t induced apoptosis regularly throughout your life via caloric restriction or vigorous exercise, then the apoptosis can trigger the symptoms you mentioned due to the massive cell die off. This is why people take accutane for acne. Accutane is essentially a highly concentrated form of vitamin A. It causes a lot of side effects due to increased cell shedding (apoptosis). I took it as a kid and it made me pretty miserable, although my skin looks great.
