    Just checking in again to see if you had a chance to run that new vmax with the PMW a few more times. I hope your #s are still way up there.
    I should be purchasing the lithium vmax this week. Cant wait to run it with my 40 lb thrust motor and PWM

      Yes and I was mistaken about the battery life.....The 3.5 trolling and 1 hour blasting was not 73% left ....It was 83% remaining on the battery...Now I'm looking how to spend the extra bat life...I may get a real fish finder, add lights, an induction stove, TV, etc....

      Bro...I'm also going to changing my propeller to a Model airplane propeller ...It is suppose to be 30% more efficient then the standard trolling motor propeller ....I'll do a video on it too....I'm hoping to hit 4 mph.

      SuperDuper Outdoors your kidding? I would think moving air or water would take a totally different approach to design. Anyway
      I am curious to see what happens. If you hit 4 mph with a 20 thrust motor you could be eligible for a spot in the Guinness world book of records.

      Hello SuperDuper, It's John R. Just checking in to see how the vmax is doing for you? Just got mine last week I'm just about ready to go.
      Waiting for the ice to melt. With a little luck i'll be on the water in two weeks. Did you ever try a new prop on the 20 lb. thrust

    I didn’t understand the part you said that the lead acid battery can only be used to half it’s capacity. Does that mean if you use a 50 AH lead acid battery you only get 25 ah use out of it ?

    • @SuperDuperOutdoors
      @SuperDuperOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. If overly discharged a LA will be damage. I've done it and it gets weaker and weaker with every use. The voltage also drops and affects your top speed. Lithium is the way to go and saves you money (and your back) in the long run. Hope that helps.

    I’m seventy-one years old and I stopped using my trolling motor because of the additional hassle and weight, most of which was the marine battery. My fishing locations are fairly remote, so the put-in is usually a little distance from where I park. The idea of a 50 amp battery that only weighs 14lbs is very appealing, but it’s hard to find real life feedback from someone that’s actually using one.
    My trolling motor is a 24lb thrust Minn Kota (older model), so I’d love to know what to expect for running time from a 50 amp lithium battery. At full thrust, and also at half speed. I prefer fishing in streams and rivers, so I seldom use full thrust for very long because boulders or logs are always a threat. Using the motor would extend the range of my trips and at my age I’m not looking for two hours of non-stop paddling, although some paddling is fine. What do you think, any estimates?

    • @SuperDuperOutdoors
      @SuperDuperOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please look at the lake chabot map. I was able to track the shoreline half the time trolling at 1.5 mph and the other half at full 4 mph with the wind to my back and 3 mph withthe wind in my face. I had 50% left on 50 amp Lithium 16 volt battery when done. About 4.5 hours of solid fishing and none stop moving. I also use a stepless speed control modulator. I believe this makes it super efficient for the motor. I've also removed the trolling motors controller and have it directly clipped to the battery. I hope that made sense. 8)

      @@SuperDuperOutdoors Thanks so much for the reply; it’s always good to hear a review from someone that has actually used the product. The rivers I fish only hold fish in certain spots so it will be nice to get from one to the next by using a motor, and if I’m fishing downriver I can go further than usual. These are remote areas (which is half the fun) but when the sun goes down you’re on your own. This will help me fish places that I haven’t fished in years.
      Thanks for the testimonial.

    A kayak or canoe still has a fundamental problem... they turn over easily, especially in moving water of a river. And a kayak that flips dump your battery into the water and no recovery. I bought an Ultimate 12' from Native Watercraft the first year. A small minn Kota trolling motor add on was simple and maybe 10-15 dollars total. You have a good rig that will be lost when the kayak flips over 1 time.

      The higher float charge the higher output. 14.8 float gives you a common 12v. The higher one will have a higher output which is fine for direct to most trolling motor but it will destroy other 12v accessories.

    I was thinking about getting the vmax you have but i have a 40 lb. thrust with a pulse modulator on it. Just blasting to an area about 10 min run. I just got done with test runs with the pwm...ridiculous. I blasted for an hour , off and on, and trolled for 3.5 at 1 mph ....73% left on the water for 4.5 hours. I do have a 24 lbs thrust but I may upgraded if it means a faster top end... I'm only at 3 mph now with the wind to my back or front. Not bad, bro.

      SuperDuper Outdoors WoW thats great!! Sweeeeet i'm feeling good about the vmax 50 amp even with my 40lb. Thrust. i'll be good because I basically don't troll. It's stop and fish with very little shore line trolling. Thanks for The information this is really helpful.
      FYI I noticed on almost all the videos i have seen on fishing kayaks 11.5' and above 3.5 - 5 mph with a 30 lb thru 55lb. Thrust. The motor thrust has less effect on speed than you would think. They higher thrust comes into play with weight and wind, its not speed its power.
      With that said a 35-40 lb thrust on your rig might go 4 - 4.5 and i think your speed would max out around there even with a 45-50 lb. thrust.
      Good luck and Thanks again.

      I have 2. One runs close to 14 volts and charges at 16v. This one is not recommended to use with other 12v electronics. I've had no problems. I also have a traditional 12v that charges at 14v with no issues as well. But I don't run full throttle all the time. I blast from spot to spot, then troll and drift.

    A PWM will only increase the efficiency at reduced speed because it can reduce the speed far more efficiently than the resistor based switch. At full throttle, you'll actually be more efficient without the PWM because the current must travel through the Mosfets of the PWM rather than directly to the motor and it will disappate some heat in the process.

    I’ll be very interested to hear your results with the PWM. Som say they increased battery run time by 5X!
    You mentioned 5 hours running at max voltage but the important part of that is how many amps does your motor use at max?
    Most people have 30-38# thrust motors which will draw as much as 25-28 amps at max speed. Where a WM is a must have with the smaller battery.
    Good video though it could have been shorter....I had to fast forward through much of it to get the information (and past the fish tank intro).
    Gave you a like and sub’d!

    • @Andy-df5fj
      @Andy-df5fj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not quite 5 times. A standard resistor based speed reducer simply connects a resistor in series to the motor to reduce the current flow through the motor, but at a cost of wasting energy in heat. Let's say you have a motor that draws 24 amps at full speed and you want to cut the current consumption in half. For a 12 volts system, the impedance at 24 amps is 0.5 ohms. If you put a 0.5 ohm resistor in series, the total impedance will be 1 ohm and you'll draw 12 amps from your battery and through both the resistor and the motor. So you'll now be using half the power from your battery, but that power will be divided equally between the resistor and the motor, so the motor will be at 1/4 the power (1/2 the amps x 1/2 the voltage). Assuming 100% efficiency, a PWM could cut the power to the motor to 1/4 by pulsing the full 12 volts with a 25% duty cycle and it will only draw an average of 6 amps (24/4).
      So in the end, at 1/4 speed, the battery will last twice as long with a PWM versus a standard resistor based speed control. At full throttle, the PWM will actually wastes a small amount of power because it must travel through the PWM Mosfets rather than directly to the motor.

    If you really took it down to 1 or 2% of its total capacity you would have to buy a new battery every time you used it. The meter is telling you useable capacity and you really shouldn't take it too far down, the internal circuitry will probably keep you from discharging to the point of serious damage, but the lower you go the less overall life the battery might have. Try to limit use to no lower than 10% left on the meter and your battery will last longer.

      @@SuperDuperOutdoors From everything I've read you can take them down to around 30% with absolutely no damage, taking them to 20% or less can damage the battery. I take my lipo's down to about 20% and do OK. Lipo's aren't the same but they are kissing cousins, your type is much safer than lipos.

    I heard that the usable energy on LIFEPO4 batteries are 80%. That said the approximate run time of a Watersnake 18T on a 50ah Lifepo4 battery with full speed should be about 2.5hrs and with Watersnake 24T should be 2hrs. In saying that, I have towed my mate's kayak on my 24T and ran at the full speed for about an hour and only used 25% of the battery capacity with a 50ah battery...
