    imo this is the replacement round (for the majority of the military) to the 5.56 due to recoil, range, ballistics and ammo capacity. The cost is only a matter of adoption and will certainly be less than adopting the 6.8x51 which will mean changing platforms too

    The 6 ARC will become very popular, so it’s cool to see your early take on it .
    Now I do have a bone to pick with you though.
    Leave the 308 alone .😀
    Not everyone shoots to extended ranges and up to 300 yrds the 308 is a workhorse of a round .
    Love the show , keep it up

    I like it because of the utility of it. Small package and you can load from light to heavy. 72’s for yotes and from 90’s-110 for hogs and deer

    I don't hunt, I have a 500 yard range nearby and so far my 20" 6mmARC shoots fantastic with 105 Barnes Match Burners and 108gr ELD M. When I compare to my 20" .223Wylde setup, the 6mmARC is easier to get consistent shots out to distance, a flatter trajectory.

    This is the first "AR caliber" besides 556 that I've been actually interested in. I remember 15ish years ago when 6.8 SPC came out, a.k.a.: "expensive 7.62x39". The Grendel was intriguing too but I never took the plunge. I wish we could figure out magazines for this class of cartridge; ASC/C Products are dogshit (and so are their products) and Magpul has publicly stated they won't touch them with a barge pole so I guess I just have to hope my whopping half-dozen Unimags fit the bill?
    We need an AR-12.5

    • @tphpodcast
      @tphpodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Geissele started making their own mags specifically for the ARC, hope those become available soon. We've had decent enough luck with the ASC arc mags (red follower), but still would like something better.

      I use the Duramags for the 6.5 Grendel. They work really well for 10-20 rounds. For 5 round mags I just use a 7.62x39, as the taper of the round doesn't affect anything with that short a mag. I haven't gotten any 26-28 round mags, and likely won't. Mine is a 24" Bear Creek Arsenal Upper on a PSA lower.

  • @dionysis84
    @dionysis84 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I truly believe this round is going to blow up in popularity. It really has it all aside from heavy heavy stopping power like a .308-450 bushmaster but still flat shooting and amazing ballistics on an ar15 lower.

    I have 2 AR 15's, a 20" Colt A2 in 5.56 and a 16" Aero Precision M4E in 6MM ARC. I buy Hornady factory ammo and reload for the 6ARC, it's less expensive than buying new brass and safer than mixed head stamps.
    In my opinion the 223 is not best served by the 77 grain, if you want a varmint/self defense round. The 223 even in a 20" barrel cannot produce enough velocity with the 77 grain and has too much drop to be field effective against small targets. My A2 does vastly better with 68 grain match, much higher velocity than the 77 grain and therefore better drop and reduced time of flight therefore better in the wind at 223 effective varmint ranges, 350 yards maximum chuck head shots.
    Compared to my 16" 6ARC from prone position on 18" steel my 20" A2 falls significantly behind my 6ARC at 500 yards in terms of ease of making first and repeatable hits, the ARC make easier hits at 650.
    The 6MM ARC in 16" handles faster and more smoothly than an M2 Carbine in M1A1 configuration in close, out performs the 16" M4's in close and significantly at 300+ yards, also outperforming the 20" A2's in close and out far starting at 350 to 400 yards depending on the wind. It's a great horse or truck rifle.

  • @btruckno1
    @btruckno1 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's pretty easy to load for. Has great ballistics for long range. Easy to shoot with minimal recoil. Really good for medium sized critters to varmints and groundhogs/prairie dogs. Lower powder charges, so not a barrel burner. Overall, a really good cartridge.

    @laserbeam-fx9qv ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Honestly I don't see enough of a difference between the 6.5 Grendel and 6 mm ARC. Yes 6 mm ARC is faster mainly due to the lower weight of the bullet. But if you fire a 100 grain 6.5 Grendel the speeds are very comparable. If you fire both a 5.6 Grendel and 6 mm ARC form the same length barrel though the speed is higher on the 6 mm ARC the energy is very comparable down range. Where the 6 mm ARC shines is that it stays supersonic longer make it better for longer distance shooting yet the Grendel is better for hunting due to it's heavier bullet. I just don't see the "huge" improvement of the 6 mm arc in a AR15 platform. Too me the only reason 6.5 Grendel would die as a cartridge is if the ammo manufacturers stopped supporting it.

For the price, I don't think you can get a better performing barrels. Bartlein makes a fine barrel too, but they are usually a couple hundred dollars more than the criterion. I am not sure you will see that big of a jump in performance over the criterion for a couple hundred dollars more. You can't go wrong with either though.

    Multiple reasons you wouldn’t want it; Ammo availability, price, need a bigger bore silencer, weaker bolt. The reason you want it is for hunting and long distance shooting as the BC is better. I would say for home defense 223 is better. There is a lot less chance of over penetration. 55 grain vmax or 77 grain sierra OTM. I would even go with 300 blackout before 6 ARC for home defense as you can use some of the first rounds as subsonic with a silencer, then below those rounds you can go loud if you need more power. 6 ARC is very niche cartridge.

      @@txpredatorhunting Look at a ballistic calculator. 6 ARC at 600 yards with 108 ELDs 12.49 MOA up at 1000 30.79. A 308 with Hornady 168gr ELDs at 600 13.1 MOA 1000 32.63. That was one of the requirements and selling points to the military, 308 ballistics in a smaller cartridge in a AR size platform.

      I’m aware of the ballistics, was just curious where you got your data .
      Fact is, yes they wanted same or better. In a lighter platform.
      It outperforms the 308 with close to 20 gr less powder. And dramatically less recoil. Real life data it outperforms the 308 .

    Summary: You Don't. Grendel has filled this gap for quite some time and the ARC is so incredibly similar it seems its only purpose is to sell more guns.

    • @aktideracer8710

      It’s just a better version of 6.5 Grendel, faster, more ballistically coefficient, and similar energy with a 15%-20% lighter projectile. Kinda makes buying a new Grendel obsolete, but if you own one already all you need is the 6 arc barrel. But… if you don’t shoot past 400 you won’t need it and inside 400 6.5 Grendel is very similar

      @@aktideracer8710 I've looked at all the charts and seen it in action, it's certainly not better, it just trades energy at distance for flatness. It's so incredibly similar that its creation was mostly pointless, other than for selling more guns. Ammo purchasers are heavily influenced by novelty.

      @@smicksmookety it was made for the military, not to sell guns but to kill people. They have limitless amounts of our money to give to Hornady to test and the 6 arc is the result of that testing. To say it’s not good and made to sell more guns shows you haven’t done your homework.
