  • In this video I cover fitting the clutch assembly and carrying out the adjustments required before we assemble the Massey Ferguson 135 6 speed tractor. Hello Im Lance (aka Bundy Bear) and doing these videos is my hobby. I do own Queensland Tractor Spares in Australia where I sell parts and offer technical advise to customers.
    Parts seen in our videos can be purchased from www.queenslandtractorspares.co...
    We have a lot more than we can offer on our web site available to us and in our store. If you dont see what you would like please email info@queenslandtractorspares.com.au and we will help where we can.
    I do try and help with technical advise at bundybearsshed@gmail.com if you have a question or are having trouble with your project.

    Thanks again for another great video We run two 135s fir grass cutting on the railway One cranked front axle and other newer straight I fitted a new clutch assembly 5 years back but lost the dual clutch function which is a PITA cant access as it has a loader frame The supplier specifically said not to touch anything as it was all set up However they had never sen those shims and they are not in parts but input them back as you did We will have to take loader off one day and try to adjust the pto clutch gap to make it 2 stage again

    • @BundyBearsShed

      Yes often it can be adjusted and tested easily from underneath, worth a go but the loader makes it a big job.

    Hi Lance, very useful video.
    I'm in the process of changing a clutch in a Massey 65 which is very similar. Thanks for the tip of checking how the clutch plates fit onto the splined shafts before assembly of the clutch and tractor. Better to find out if there are any issues prior to assembly and save a lot of time wasting.
    I will also check the condition of the clutch fixing bolts now that i have watched this video.
    Keep up the great work.

      .the 65 and 165 are basically the same as the 135 the clutch springs may be a different spring to give more pressure as the 65 and 165 engines are 4 cylinder over as 3 cylinder engine. Both made by perkins. The early 4 cylinder perkins engines was 204 engine or 203. The later engine came with the 212. Engine In the 165 tractor the 65s were 203 engine engines hope this helps ?

    I have always stayed away from clutches and transmission as I felt they were sort of magical to work on with way to many parts to keep up with. Your 135 video series has given me the confidence to jump in and take on the clutch, PTO shaft and hydraulic lift systems. Thank you for making these. Now all I have to do is split the tractor and find out what kind of clutch I actually have in there, order it, wait 2.5 weeks for the parts to arrive. Here in the US all the virus stuff has shipping in snail mode. Not good when I depend on my tractor for my income. The other day a part took 6 days from a place only 2 hours from me. Can you fix the shipping systems too? LOL. Thank you again for the knowledge.

    I had three of the exact same old bolts break myself last year! The bolts break at the top of the thread, bad design with the shoulder and difficult to get out as they sit so low and in my case didnt break even. I was just writing before it happened on the video to use new bolts here. Im about to rebuild my tractor, Great Video Series, youve answered so many questions!! Ive heard two stories about these shim inserts, the one you said and the other was that it was an error by the engineers which i think it was... i had this shim laser cut from one solid piece.

    Lance, Great videos, hugely informative. However I have just fitted a new 12 inch dual clutch with 12 red springs to an MF 135. I should have removed 6 springs as I have to stand on the clutch - really heavy. Could 6 of those springs be got out from underneath without splitting again, perhaps by using a dremel tool or other method to cut the spring or would that be enough even if it was possible.

    We recently did the rope seal on my brothers 135 and our bolts broke exactly as yours did. I wish I'd seen this video before we did ours, but thats tractoring for you. It must be a common fault I guess and something to look for when we do up our 20E clutch

  • @derekevans8266

    I worked at a MF main agent in the 60s and 70s and have done hundreds of clutches, I always thought the metal shims were there so in the event of the clutch wearing ( which they did a lot ) and the face of the flywheel getting damaged it could be skimmed by the thickness of the shims and then they could be left out but that was only my understanding of them. As for the 90 thou adjustment I always adjusted these to 110 thou as it gave the main drive plate more time to disengage before disengaging the pto.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I go the other way with the adjustments, the shims were more of a fan to my knowledge.

    Hi Lance
    Very nice video, thumbs up :)
    I have a 35X where the PTO clutch does not work, now I have to undu the plate underneeth, and check the adjustment :)
    Most of the time during this series, you mention tollerences and tourqe spec in mm, but this one you mention in imperial. What will 65 thou translate to in mm, can you help me with that?
    Is the following correct: (65*25,4)/1000 = 1,651 mm
    Best regards

    • @BundyBearsShed

      Yes roughly 1mm is 0.040" the exact measurement is not as important as having them all even.

    I ended up buying a complete clutch assembly as it was cheaper than just the parts. Once the clutch assembly is attached and the 3 transport bolts are removed is that when to make the adjustment to the 3 bolts that touch the pressure plate tabs? Not the bolts that touch the throwout bearing. Also once all the bolts that hold the assembly to the flywheel are installed are the clutch disk supposed to be tight so they don't move? (I would assume so as that would be normal drive state once it is in the tractor and the throwout bearing on the clutch pedal would press them allowing them to spin freely?) Just difficult lining things back up on the drive shaft, but I'll keep trying slowly and turning the shafts inside the gear box.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The plates will move until the transport screws are removed. you can back them out so there is just a slight drag to line things up.

      .PTO clutch adjust ment is normally made in the rebuild of the clutch. And not to be done again . Has any additional adjustment is made on the clutch foot pedal. Petting a small bar in the hole of round shaft un lock pinch bolt slightly and putting pressure onto the cluth and adjust pedal so there is about 1/8 to 316th of an inch free play on on pedal tighten the lock nut bolt cheek you have this free play before clutch pedal starts to display engage the clutch. As your clutch wears down all the adjustment is done via this method till clutch is no good and worn out . Then time to replace the clutch. Hope this helps

    • @kenh3344
      @kenh3344 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      . The Massey Ferguson tool. Was made by churchill tools. And was about 1/8 th to 3/16 th of an inch. For the gap in PTO clutch adjustment. Once fitted to the flywheel and 3 transport bolts removed.

      Go with the supplier if the flywheel has not been machined differently. The red springs are fine they changed in around 1982. The pto setting would be between 1.5 and 2mm
