The best tribute ever given by anyone ever in my opinion. I lucked out one day at a garage sale when I found a few albums a lady was selling, I went nuts. The lady was so excited that she gave them to me. She wanted someone who would enjoy them as much as she did. I still treasure those vinyls.

What a wonderful, long overdue honor! We've seen so many R'n'R Hall of Fame Inductions yet I can't recall one homage that was as moving/comprehensive/adoring as was Bette's. Just overcome. I surprised my sister with tickets to Laura's first Carnegie Hall show; it was simulcast on WNEW, and we had the cassette player working back at the apartment, as we watched her live. "Christmas In My Soul" always brings me to my knees. I loved Bette's re: to "Love My Love thing, Love is surely Gospel"and "Emily, you ornament the Earth to me..." She will always be one of the greatest artists we've ever had amongst us. I was born in the Bronx; knowing I shared my beginnings near Laura, always made me proud. I'm so grateful her son could experience the unimaginable impact his Mother had on sooo many. Miss her eternally. Historic moment...

Bette, no one else can express the Laura we all knew and loved as you have at this ceremony! And we all wept with you...I've been singing her songs this morning just as I did in my bedroom when I was a teenager, over and over again. Laura is endless. And today, here I am at 70 ...she is imprinted in me, she runs through my veins, cells. I remember when she was coming to Minneapolis in the early nineties - I marked my calendar when her concert tickets were going on sale at 10:00 am and called at the very moment - buying a ticket in the front row for each performance....nirvanaaaah!! Bette, thanks for capturing her spirit, sharing it with the world - she cannot be lost. And Bette, thank you for being you.

Know what you mean. It was a very cool feeling knowing you knew of Laura. I turned everyone I knew onto her early works. Even the guys liked a lot of her songs. I think it might have been the brownies, but I was spreading the Gospel according to Ms. Laura- any way I could. What Wonderful, New York days! I listen to "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat", every season. I suspect Laura would be aghast at her Country, today. Who ever expected America to go backwards!?! Historians, perhaps...

Tears all around. I’m an 18 year old, and play music. I grew up listening to everything from Billy Joel, to even Radiohead sometimes, but when I started my own journey of music away from my parent’s taste, I found myself in Laura’s hands. I found myself there by looking at a picture of one of my favorite actors, the one from Grease, Jeff Conaway. I have the picture hanging up in my room, and it’s a black and white photo of Jeff, legs sprawled out on his floor in Hollywood Hills, and he has records of every kind from the 50s, to the 70s. He had many, and I wanted to know them, to feel what he felt when he put these records on. So it took me forever, but finally someone pointed it out for me, and it was Laura’s Eli and The Thirteenth Confession. Jeff had Laura’s album, he probably had it considering he grew up in that gritty New York that Bette described in this video. He grew up a pure street kid just as Laura did. I listened to that record a over and over, and it is still an absolute treasure to me. Laura’s music has this magical halo around it that makes it so incredibly unique and filled with true and most importantly-real passion. May she Rest In Peace knowing that she has touched someone as young as me.

If that wasn't enough she also accompanied herself on the piano. And man oh man could she play piano! She was just amazing! I can only watch this every so often but it's always within me. Thank you Bette for acknowledging our youth, our passion and our grief. We will never give up.

I didn't know Laura raised Patti LaBelle's 1st son after Patti's bout of depression in the early to mid-70s.
Also considered Laura Nyro's own childhood wasn't all that great and she later died at the same age with the same condition as her mother.
FYI: Patti, herself, also suffers a condition her late mother also died of.

Laura passed away in 1997. Eleven years later, Janis Ian came out with a memoir in which she falsely and unfairly portrayed Laura as a hardcore drug user.

2:19 "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat...People used to line up outside Sam Goodies and wait for hours for that record to show up". That seems unlikely. It peaked at #51 on the Billboard charts while her more successful (and my favorite) New York Tendaberry peaked at #32. It's possible her fans were told of the release date and were waiting for Sam Goody to open that day, but I'd like corroboration on this story. Is it possible Bette was confusing this with a line up for concert tickets, which would be more believable?

Her music wasn't rock n roll but she was inducted for her immeasurable contribution to rock n roll - she wrote numerous songs that went #1 or charted on the rock and pop charts in the 60s and 70s. She was also arguably the first female singer songwriter who opened the door for everyone that was since followed - Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, Elton John, Todd Rundgren, Suzanne Vega etc...

she did plenty of great rock'n'roll
      she didn't ONLY do rock'n'roll
as is true of a lot of folks in R&R HOF

She is SOUL which is where R&R came from. Please do some research. I don't think many groups inducted R truly R&R
