It also just shows the next 7 moves in the calculated line directly under the brightly-colored evaluation of the move. It seems like he doesn't notice this since, in all his chess videos, when he wants to see why a move was evaluated poorly, he's been simply making moves on the analysis board himself until he lands on one that the engine deems best, when reading the line directly under the move evaluation would immediately tell him.

This series has quickly become my favourite, there is just something about watching Nothernlion play some chess with his ultra egg intellectual goodness. I also really like the choice of no background music so I can put on something of my own I like on. These chess videos are what keeps me going

Been watching your videos and started playing against the AI. Finally played a couple of games against real people in 10 min games. Lost against someone at 1200 elo, then beat someone at 700. It's all thanks to pogging out of my gourd watching the egg play and introducing me to gothamchess
I'm getting to a point where I'm liking the video before I'm even seeing it, that's how good I know it'll be, and I'm stingy with my likes. That's how pogged these videos are, and the exponential pog growth is insane, Egg's Gambit is truly a game changer.
Love the chess video's keep it up. Also when you are analysing and wonder why the computer prefers a move you can see a little move order/ notation in the top right. When you hover over them with your mouse you can also see a small board with that move. Hope it helps.
There's not. There's an option yes...but it does LITERALLY nothing. You can still "click" to move, and it BOGGLES MY MIND why such a simple option is not yet in.
@@drvofoka7033 lol yeah exactly... in the settings you can choose between click + hold & drag, or click once and then click the target square to move, but changing between them doesn't seem to do anything, and it stays set to hold & drag. I have no clue how it hasn't been fixed yet I think he was holding and dragging when he made that misclick, though. From that misclick and a few other instances where the system rejected an accidental move to an illegal square, it looks like what he's doing is just releasing the hold too early while he's dragging the piece
@@drvofoka7033 People have been complaining about that option for years and they still haven't fixed it. I think they don't fix it on purpose because it makes great content when Magnus/other top players blunders by misclicking.
I'm about NLs age, and I used to be huge into chess when I was in elementary and highschool. I haven't thought chess or played in about 10 years. These videos are giving me the itch to play again. I'm going to check out this site for sure
NL, you can turn on an option that puts dots on the squares that are valid moves for the piece you have selected. This doesn't stop misclicks, but at least it's a reminder that if you click on a square with a dot, a piece is moving there for sure. Hope this helps!
On the analysis board in the top right it shows you the best move and the best moves that come after it, so you don't have to guess what the best move would have been.
Kind of finished the final analysis a bit early I think. I may have overlooked something, since I am not all that amazing at chess, but looking at the position at 37:37: Playing Bd3 here should be that bad, since Be4 leads to Bg7+ which forces either Kh7 -> Bf8+ -> Kg8 -> Bxd6 -> Kxf7 -> Bxe4 trading the rook for queen and bishop or Kg8 -> Rf8+ -> Qxf8 -> Bxf8 -> Kxf8 -> Bxe4 trading rook and bishop for queen and bishop
I almost screamed at the screen during the first game NL's opponent had such a big tunnel vision on taking the pawn, he missed the hanging bishop twice
as a (up to) 2300 rated player I must say, I am very amazed how good NL's analysis is, some extra thoughts: 15:34 13. Ne4 gives black opportunity to get rid of a pretty weak isolated d5 pawn, and the computer's line of 13. Nb3 doesn't allow that 40:21 those two knights in the center are terrifying indeed, and I think it's normal to not see the computer's 23. Bg7 tactic; I'd try to stay coldblooded and move the Queen out of the attack in a spot where it's not attacked by an enemy N and also does not fall into a knight fork, e.g. 23. Qb2 or 23. Qd3 is ok, (23. Qe3, 23. Qe1 and 23. Qc1 is not), but then 23. Qd3 is better bc it doesn't let black spoil the white pawn structure on f3
Isn’t “real chess” like 90+ minutes a side? Or are we talking about multi-day tournaments? Edit: I checked, FIDE events are typically 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 30 minutes for the game to finish afterwards, with 30 seconds per move after the first move. So I was kinda close, I guess?
30 seconds per move and 90 minutes for the first 40 moves makes no sense. The longest possible time the first 40 moves could take is 20 minutes with that time constraint.

Up to a point, yes. Generally I resign when I know that I could win the position if I swapped colours with my opponent. Of course, the point at which this comes depends on the skill levels of the players.

Quick tip, if you're attacking you can't lose, so if you're on the attack think "danger levels" if something you have is under attack then attack a more valuable piece of your opponent's. Much better if that piece happens to be their king! It unleashes a series of moves that counteract your opponent's otherwise weak attacks. EDIT: Notice you win both Knights with this line! You also devalue the enemy king's positioning and you can then begin an even more amazing attack later on in the game :D
