  • Liam and Sanak review the newest Star Wars Book, The Living Force by, John Jackson Miller, the acclaimed author of other Star Wars novels such as Kenobi, Knight Errant, and A New Dawn as well as the Knights of the Old Republic comic book series. The Living Force follows all 12 members of the Jedi Council from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace: Yoda, Mace Windu, Ki-Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, Saesee Tiin, Yaddle, Oppo Rancisis, Yarael Poof, Eeth Koth, Even Piell, Adi Gallia, and Depa Billaba. After an encounter with pirates in the Slice, the Jedi Council is challenged by Qui-Gon Jinn to reconnect with the people of the Republic by helping just one person. This challenge takes them to the planet Kwenn, the site of a High Republic event called The Grand Renewal, where they plan to stage a celebration to honor Kwenn's history. This book shows the Jedi Council at their very best and eerily hints at their coming downfall in the Star Wars prequels.

    Depa saving Kylah from a life of crime was peak.

      It was really great for both characters, we see a lot of Depa's tragedy and her strengths in this book!

    I really enjoyed spending more time with these characters that we really don’t get to know. I feel like I know every single character now and it’s gonna make a big difference watching anything from the prequel era. My standouts were Yareal Poof and Evan Pielle easily, every time I saw I was getting a chapter for both of them I was so in(even though I was in for a good majority of this one). This definitely felt like an epilogue to the High Republic and I’m hoping we get more books that’ll tie in like this following the conclusion of phase 3. It’s a solid 8/10 because of the era in general and the character work but unfortunately kinda felt over saturated with characters.

      Thanks for sharing your opinion, we definitely have similar opinions! Can totally see the oversaturation, it is the nature of being set right before TPM ofc. THR Phase III, The Acolyte, and other material bridging the story to TLF is a great idea, we'll probably get some form of that without fully lovking the 200 year gap too much.

    Did they go with that book cover art or was it different? i ask because the artist/AI did the character of Adi Gallia wrong. Made it of Stass Allie, as if there wasn't enough confusion over mistakes between those two already.

      @starwarslads  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Pretty sure it's not AI, but can definitely see a little more of Stass over Adi in the drawing. It's a small picture so detail isn't very high, but good catch! At that size, only the blush of her cheeks stands out as Stass, the robe and headpieces are virtually the same.

      @@starwarslads There was the white collar which i also caught some months ago and the parting of the tunic layers were much more Stass- but they actually changed the artwork after i pointed out the differences- you know what they did? AIRBRUSHED the white collar part out!

    Just finished the book yesterday, and despite my dwindling interest in new-canon as of late (although I might check out TBB Season 3 at some point), I liked it. It's fun and the characterizations are good and I liked that it touched on a lot of characters that really don't get a lot to do elsewhere in either continuity. It reminded me a lot of the pre-Clone Wars era Republic comics, which, interestingly enough, JJM said he re-read when writing the novel in an interview. Depa's plot was definitely my favorite and her dynamic with Kylah was fun. It'd be interesting if she met Kanan at some point down the line either during the Clone Wars or post Order 66, if JJM ever decides to bring her back like he did with Baylo, who was apparently a preexisting character who died trying to assassinate Palpatine, something I didn't know until after I read the book.

      Haha, thank you! We actually get early review audiobook copies, which is why we can drop reviews the day of or the day before a book gets officially released, but we were a little behind this time with some schedule blockers on our end

      @@starwarslads I always prefer audiobooks, its a performance on its own with the audio reader and always interesting to see the story brought to life through the voice
