What a beautiful tool I have found mine to be a master at all the tasks that's been set it but as with any tool of quality you need time and patience to gain experience with a different blade and one that has so many different options of use . I love mine and it cleans up like new with a littler butter and oil (50/50)mix thank you William the boss Leeds West Yorkshire England.
Well that is certainly one sexy looking beast. And indeed that wood did appear to be very dense. However, it seems to me that the grind is not ideal for batoning as it appears to be a rather flat grind as far as I could tell from the video. A convex grind is superior for that task and can be found for example on several of the Parangs from Condor in a price range of 48 dollars (Condor Pack Golok) to 60 some dollars (Village Parang)....etc. I could buy several of their well made beasts and still have serious money left in my pocket. Thanks for the review!! Very interesting.
Great video as always my friend. I have a custom knife 350 dollars and my schrade 50 dollar knife does just as well if not better. Knife was having trouble by the looks of it. much better choices out there and better prices.
+EverydayTacticalVids ... They actual sell them cheap in special Sales events. They do let you know, they are used blades. most knives companies do this.
This knife was actually made by lion steel in Italy for dpx. It was of course design by dpx. The steel is an european sleipneer, a classic now for lion steel, thanks to Molletta.
When it comes to splitting wood, try using aRock Flat Rock or another piece of split wood at the top and jamming it down making your split easier with the knife.
Axe is pointless weigh if you going distance. A big blade like this and a nice smaller fix blade and a good folding knife is all you need . Connect the chop 12 to your bag and it’s out of sight out of mind till you need it
The new Schrade Froe that PM101 designed/reviewed, puts this thing to shame batoning wood! And it's under $30! Looks like the wrong grind to baton. Nice video though, thanks!
The shorter design already reduces weight and makes it easier to handle regardless of weight. That makes the fuller completely useless. A downside in fact, this is a less powerful chopper because of that, there could be more spine there to help split wood. It could easily be fixed
Interesting - I was just asked this a few days ago. This one is more like a machete but for an overall woods tool, I'd take the El Chete all day. As far as a non-axe heavy chopper in the woods - yes, El Chete wins.
Over the top on price for 400 besides I never ever have carried a machete camping in my life and at 75 not going to start now but looks a 400 dollar chopper but this beast is used for combat and in ugly situations .
wow this machete / survival beautiful beautiful Fulton construction blade and Micarta handle scales is just absolutely and amazingly gorgeous and completely badass to the f****** Bone Bad to the Bone I want one I want one now but I'll probably never be able to afford it because I'm pretty sure it's around $1,000 or maybe even more or if it's less I better start asking people to put money together to try to see if they can get it for me lol for Christmas that would be the ultimate Christmas present right now just one item and that would be it!... Great video and also badass knife machete Full Tang gorgeous just beautiful superb super Superior knife machete everything is just gorgeous absolutely gorgeous........
awesome chopper and company I really wanted one of these which they had at Knife Center for $200 but the pre-order discontinued for some reason...DPx is awesome though...
Andy T The bad news: Pre-Order stopped for quite a while. The good news: The few remaining items currently have the Pre-Order price. I bought one already. :D
Phreak from knife centre? lucky you... it would of still been over $300 for me to buy and get back to Australia so i was waiting to get some coin .. and then i waited to long...lol
I think your trying to trick us. If I could actually beat that blade till tar came out of it I'd probably buy it lol 😉 But seriously, I think the weird grind lines are for nothing but looks and it's overpriced for what it is. It's not hand forged, if it was it might justify the price. There's too many other options out there that will outperform that blade at a fraction of the cost. I think for a collector of choppers couple hundred would be justified considering the materials and finish. If you've got more money than common sense and just wanna impress people who don't understand such tools then it's a good choice I guess. It is definitely a beautifully finished blade but it's simply not worth the asking price for most people. You did do a decent test for a big chopper though and I do appreciate seeing new gear regardless of the price. Thanks for the review!
A power WorkSharp would probably be the easiest, and you'd put a convex edge on it which would get you a much longer useable/working edge, and convex is better for chopping, most axes/hatchets come with a convex edge nowadays.
Firebrand1967 You will notice that on this blade the back ridge is raised to yield room for the groove so in terms of weight reduction - there seems to be none as it takes up the same amount of space as filling in the groove (and then some). I suppose I can buy the idea, not of added strength perhaps, but of added flexibility or shock absorbtion on impact, but I would point out that none of all the hand made truck spring machetes I ever owned relied on any grooves to function and most certainly a good number of them are designed for various types of impact work. I've seen their blades nicked but never their back broken. Maybe it helps the thing not stick when cleaving things what do I know. Nor do I know how many people who can afford to pay 400 dollars for a blade actually uses it as a weapon in actual melee combat. As a matter of personal preference I would not want to work for extended periods of time with a heavy full tang handle like that. I'd go with the southeast asian light weight rattail any time. And if I wanted to cut up and cleave a whole bunch of firewood I would bring a saw and axe instead anyway.
This is more for the guy who liked to collect gear. I have several expensive knives that sit and collect dust. Not because im scared to use them but because my 17.0O machete from El Salvador works much better. Still think it is beautiful blade , but 400.00 I can buy another silky katanaboy 500 a bruks hatchet and a cpm3 master hunter
if You like desing like that, and want something better and cheaper, than check out the blak knives´ parangs and goloks. I have 3 of them and have had used 6 of them and they are excelent. And made in the Central Europe. www.black-knives.com/noze-na-prodej
Great energy spender I c a great design on spending u r energy but corect me if I m wrong in a suvival situation u need to conserve it right? I mean the guy who design it put a lot of thinking in that tool.U did split soft wood I wonder how will work whit hard wood will u be able to get it out of the wood?or in a suvival situation the rescue party will fined u keep splitting wood
Yes, it is nice, however, still expensive. When using a machete like that. You need something that's not so costly, you need to use the back of the machete rather than chopping the branches, which dings up the blade. edge. I prefer to use pruning shears for branches. It makes it a lot easier saves on the blade and from beating yourself to death by beating on the branches.
Hello my friend, congratulations on your channel! I'm Brazilian and I have a channel with the theme just like you would like to know if we can talk and record something together! Hugs
I liked the look, but after watching the capabability of it I'm disapointed. I have many D2 blade, but 400 just for a machet for that chopping capability NOPE. My D2 blade chop more with less effort. And for that weight just go with an axe.
Nice looking but I do not like knives or machetes that have a built in weak point(rear hole on spine) on the blade. If that blade were ever to fail I guarantee it will be because of that hole in the spine!
and that is why i dont care how big the blade is a knife in not made for cutting or chopping wood that's what an axe is for you can always tell all that all these survival people who use knives for axe work are really green horns they have never really ever lived in the bush, all a knife does is expend energy for nothing and even an axe you only use an axe for splitting the wood or knocking the tree down other then that you use a saw,it uses less energy.and i'm not talking about those cheesy little jokes they call folding saws i'm talking about a swede saw not a little pretend saw,now after all that chopping with a knife would have the energy to still build your shelter and make a fire and make a bed for yourself all this is a lot of work i'v spent years out there and you try to not waste your energy for nothing.ask anyone who has really and i mean really lived in the bush like a trapper or someone like that if they would use a knife for cutting wood they would just look at you and then kill themselves laughing at you and they would call the person a green horn.
Wallace Pelletier I have to agree, if there's one thing I've learnt, you do not fight nature, you work with it and save as much energy as you can. A pretty knife for sure, but I cannot think of a situation where you'd have that, and not have a decent 40 buck hand made parang, axe and a decent fixed blade for the little tasks. If you are out their and being serious you'd have a decent saw, though you can make a good shelter with out that of course. Unless you are out there long term of course.
It doesn't seem to baton that well. There are so many less expensive choppers out there. It looks pretty but the micarta handle looks cheap. I'm sure it's sturdy but for my money I'll pass.
$425 for a blade that can only do one thing. Chop. Made from a steel that is known to chip. This machete is not for extreme survival. It is made for survival of the knife designer and to separate knife collectors from their hard earned income. I wish I had too much money, so that I could buy one and hang it on the wall where it belongs.
Looks like a good tool. Vrry impressed with wuality and steel but they lost potential with thr design, specifically the amount of space between the handle and cutting edhe. As mentioned there is no choil...well there is a sharpening choil but no finger choil and that combined with the space behind it force your grip eay too fsr to get any reasonsble control for anything other than chopping, and at that price I would want a tool that can do dome finer work. What is frustrating is that thete is clesrly a bunch of space whete a choil could be. Get rid of the stupid dhsrpening choil and rither put a real choil there or bring the edge right up to the blade. This design is sadly a fail imo.
What a beautiful tool I have found mine to be a master at all the tasks that's been set it but as with any tool of quality you need time and patience to gain experience with a different blade and one that has so many different options of use . I got it and I love it. Amazing good tool. Perfect for Military use as civilian. Recommend ++++++
Its really wicked looking & seems to do the job. Well done.
Well that is certainly one sexy looking beast. And indeed that wood did appear to be very dense. However, it seems to me that the grind is not ideal for batoning as it appears to be a rather flat grind as far as I could tell from the video. Its always important to have a blood grove on a chopper. Ya know so the blood can flow in the proper direction when you chop logs.
JGBLADES lol!!!
Great video as always my friend. I have a custom knife 350 dollars and my schrade 50 dollar knife does just as well if not better. Knife was having trouble by the looks of it. much better choices out there and better prices.
@EverydayTacticalVids would you be able to compare it with Tops El Chete?
@Den Dem: From what I could see in this video El Chete will eat the DPX for breakfast.
According to the manufacturer It's Niolox steel and not Sleipner. Maybe it's changed over time?
Awesome vid man. That is one bad-ass blade!
Nice blade shape nice handle perfect for me
400 for a blade. No thanks. I have used a lot of blades and have found none being that far in superiority to justify 425 bucks.
Your loss.
Damn,it's a beautiful blade but I couldn't sleep on that price tag and keep a straight face.
Yeah - that hurts, huh? I hear ya - I have to send this one back to them.
I never understand why brands do that. What are they going to do with a used product??
Probably send it out to other reviewers.
+EverydayTacticalVids ... They actual sell them cheap in special Sales events. They do let you know, they are used blades.
most knives companies do this.
or they Save them for GIVEAWAYS once in awhile.
That thing is SICK!
This knife was actually made by lion steel in Italy for dpx. It was of course design by dpx. The steel is an european sleipneer, a classic now for lion steel, thanks to Molletta.
Very impressive. I need to review that.
You would make Chris Tanner proud! Nice vid!
Man, try an average axe. You will be shocked.
lol $400...a sucker is born every minute.
Jason Vorhees would die for that machete! (& then come back to life ten minutes later obviously)
Looks and chops great 👍
Unfortunatelly Sold Out ☹️
When it comes to splitting wood, try using aRock Flat Rock or another piece of split wood at the top and jamming it down making your split easier with the knife.
Yeah mora blade are reallly good
We had the same description for it: impressive! Price-wise though. . .
JuandelaCruz001: You can add sold out to your list.
Axe is pointless weigh if you going distance. A big blade like this and a nice smaller fix blade and a good folding knife is all you need . Connect the chop 12 to your bag and it’s out of sight out of mind till you need it
I have the darn dao from Spyderco , and this puts that to shame . But they both have a place .
It would appear that to baton properly with this blade you would start with the top of the blade and keeping it at an angle, not flat.
HAVE you reviewed any Zombietools blades yet ?
The new Schrade Froe that PM101 designed/reviewed, puts this thing to shame batoning wood! And it's under $30! Looks like the wrong grind to baton. Nice video though, thanks!
Stone wash is way better 4 every day use . But that polished look is great if your a collector
Because you didn’t mention it, did you notice that one of the lanyard holes is hex shaped to accept hex bit drivers?
That is beautiful!
what's the thickness and overall length??? looks like 18 inches overall length, and ¾ to ½ in thick???
It's beautiful I love it.
The shorter design already reduces weight and makes it easier to handle regardless of weight. That makes the fuller completely useless. A downside in fact, this is a less powerful chopper because of that, there could be more spine there to help split wood. It could easily be fixed
Thanks for sharing.
Great review but I think you forgot about the sheath part? Supposed to come with a kydex sheath or maybe they didn't sent it with a sheath?
Excellent review keep them coming
Thanks - appreciate that.
Very nice, informative and helpful review 👍
What is your opinion comparing this blade to the El Chete ?
Interesting - I was just asked this a few days ago. This one is more like a machete but for an overall woods tool, I'd take the El Chete all day. As far as a non-axe heavy chopper in the woods - yes, El Chete wins.
Getting this knife is the hard part . If your looking for one don’t snooze
Over the top on price for 400 besides I never ever have carried a machete camping in my life and at 75 not going to start now but looks a 400 dollar chopper but this beast is used for combat and in ugly situations .
Reminds me of Jack Crain's custom knives in the Predator movie.
4:00 on large diameter log, better use saw
wow this machete / survival beautiful beautiful Fulton construction blade and Micarta handle scales is just absolutely and amazingly gorgeous and completely badass to the f****** Bone Bad to the Bone I want one I want one now but I'll probably never be able to afford it because I'm pretty sure it's around $1,000 or maybe even more or if it's less I better start asking people to put money together to try to see if they can get it for me lol for Christmas that would be the ultimate Christmas present right now just one item and that would be it!... Haha.. you didn't see the large stone behind you, which you could have used as a base ;)
Nice to see a premium product for once
12 legged Sasquatch.. yeah batoning on a stone is dangerous - could damage your blade.
beast blade bro
Of course, you would give your buddy's product good review !
Keith Meyer buddy - not really though. Haven’t spoken to them in around a year
To pricey im not going to pay that much for a chopper ! BUT IT DOES LOOK LIKE A BEAST!
awesome chopper and company I really wanted one of these which they had at Knife Center for $200 but the pre-order discontinued for some reason...DPx is awesome though...
Interesting - I'll see what I can find out.
Andy T The bad news: Pre-Order stopped for quite a while.

I bought one already. :D
Phreak from knife centre? lucky you... it would of still been over $300 for me to buy and get back to Australia so i was waiting to get some coin .. and then i waited to long...lol
Andy T no, directly from DPXGear.
I think your trying to trick us. If I could actually beat that blade till tar came out of it I'd probably buy it lol 😉

I'm a boy scout. What are tips you have for me
Does the steel easy to rust ?
810th aprove. So what do you think is better, that DPX Gear or "the Severance" from 3 Dog knives? 💖💝💖💝💖
How would you sharpen this thing
A power WorkSharp would probably be the easiest, and you'd put a convex edge on it which would get you a much longer useable/working edge, and convex is better for chopping, most axes/hatchets come with a convex edge nowadays.
If you want a good knife try the msk 1
Joshua Perez the msk1 is trash lol
that's one sexy ass blade! But, I've seen many lower priced knives perform way better ...
Great vid
why would you need a blood groove on a blade like that ...
whynottalklikeapirat The FULLER reduces weight and adds structural strength in the blade, especially when used as an impact tool/weapon.
Firebrand1967

How can IGet from India
exactly it's a beautiful blade but the price tag on this machete it's ridiculous
tops El chete so much better
Hello my friend, congratulations on your channel! I'm Brazilian and I have a channel with the theme just like you would like to know if we can talk and record something together! Hugs
Blood groove = fuller for those of us who want to use proper terminology.
Y the blood Grove. I want 1!!!.
That’s a beautiful knife. The sleipner is the deal killer for me though. Rusts easily. No good for the jungle environment.
I liked the look, but after watching the capabability of it I'm disapointed.
I have many D2 blade, but 400 just for a machet for that chopping capability NOPE. My D2 blade chop more with less effort. And for that weight just go with an axe.
El Chete by Tops knives !!!
A LOT more for ,,your" money
Small forest axe would probably be much more efficient. Nice looking blade though.

faultroy But these videos are to show you how diverse and strong a product is. It's also to simulate a survival scenario. If you had just one tool...
i love old hickory i'v always had one and always will.
