I've been finding these knife review videos strangely fascinating, learning much, many options for both stellar function and aesthetics. This particular video is the best I've seen for fixed blade working knives.
The BK2 is very similar to my Esee5 and I like it a lot, for an all around camp/work knife. It comes with Micarta handles and a Kydex sheath and replacement warranty on the blade.

I use an okc ol hickory 7 inch butcher knife with Wilson grip wrap on a usmc ka bar holster. It's all I need at the river and it cost me 10 for knife, 7 for sheath and 3 for Wilson tape. Plus a couple hours on Arkansas stones.
If it takes more than five minutes on Arkansas Oilstones, you don't know what you're doing. But if you think and Old Hickory is a good choice for a survival knife, it goes without saying that you don't know what you're doing.

One of the better lists on youtube. I prefer the sk5
I like this video because it included many knives. Good to be budget conscious and have next step up models and brands too. Just enough info to hit the highlights and give something to decide if it's worth looking into more. Not boring and not missing usage footage. Its good to look at several for a change. I don't have a bushcraft or survival knife. I looked more into the Woodsman by Ontario. On Amazon with your link. It mentioned the steel available now is 440 instead of 5160.

Just found your channel...great quick moving no frills informative vid. I can certainly understand why you have so many subs...now me included. I've been shopping for a medium to large do it all type knife under 100 bucks. Have it narrowed down to the OKC SP10, BK 7 & 9, and the Schrade 52/M Frontier.

The 6 is a great great knife.
I like everything about those Beckers except for the appearance of the handle material. Looks like Home Depot special to me.
I used to think the same thing, until I bought a couple, and now they are great handles for me. 7 is better than 9.
The Arvensis is another great looking Sibert design...I have to pick up the BM Bushcraft model....and it's always tough looking through the Tops knives model line.....I like too MANY of them...and I LOVE Micarta so that doesn't help at ALL.....

Those are all great looking knives and ones I would love to own. I have many knives, both fixed blade, and folding knives and I believe that the Gerber brand knives are among some of the best and I own one of theirs and three of their multi-tools.
It was fun seeing the TOPS .230. Looked good in this video. Several of the many he showed were neat. I'm glad bec I didn't know some and only heard of the SK 5 Blackbird

The Ka bar 1095 steel is ok steel rusts easily and not a good carbide steel but very popular steel. I'd recommend the schrade 51 its a beast knife and decent steel I use it to chop logs and the schrade 52 for bigger bang for your buck

Say Heah Tim, First the Benchmade Arvensis 119, I Alway's said, a good military knife will work good in the bush, Unless it's a specialty item like a spear point and dual serrated blade, Yeah, for alot of wet rope cutting heh heh heh. And now I got some Steel Will. First I got the Druid 240, and I alway's team or try teaming up and matching knives together, I like to carry a large/small knife combo, So with my almost 5" Druid 240, I teamed it with a Druid 230 a 9"+ blade, A nice size difference and a great looking matching pair. and the price is great. I have a Fox "Hitam" Golok that was hard to match, It's a great chopper, But not one of my Fav:s. But still I won't get rid of it or trade it for another knife. The knives that people on TH-cam try trading junk for it, Some think a Fantasy Knife would be a good trade, Yeah, for them. Man, how low can a guy go. Or I had a guy after he did make a fail video with a knife , Got a replacement and wanted to trade me for a matching set, He wanted me to brake the set just for the knife, Man I have (2) in a better steel and one with G-10 handles instead of Micarta, telling me how rare the micarta is heh heh heh, anyhow. As you pointed out, The Steel Will also make knives in the N690Co. Stainless Steel that's pretty good. My Hitam is made in it and both are made in Italy. I got the Steel Will Darkangel a 6"+ blade and the blade color match, and yet very affortable. I just wish the quality control is good with Steel Will, Thanx for sharing some lovely piece of kit's, and a Job we'll done. ,, .

Great review brother😉 That Ontario Bushcraft line looks really nice for the money, also the Steel Will line is saaaweeet! I really hope that Gerber letting the LMF2 copyright go means that they will have a much needed upgrade and or fix of the horrible handle separation at the finger guard. I use my Prodigy for everything I can't recommend it more highly, I've become a serration guru its an amazing blade. Gerber just released a straight edge version and the grip is less aggressive so you might dig that one more than you did the strongarm.
I've eyed it for a while - maybe this year I'll get one.

Seriously, 3yrs ive wanted to comment. Man do I feel better! Love the channel and all the great content and reviews. That list still holds up well even to this day. The knife industry is moving faster than ever, knife culture is pretty much almost fully mainstream since the older millennials (my age bracket) are facsinnated with the buzz acronym "EDC ". These days folders are actually subject to the same hyped up, short lived "hot or not" trend schedule as any other reasonably priced fashion or technology accessory. Which honestly, is really rad from one perspective as it drives interest, design and competition. On the other hand, it's kind of wrecked the feel of that "knife guy" community it had for so many years. I imagine it's like the game Magic the Gathering. You had the guys that grew up playing DnD that started playing Magic and were all like, hell yeah, this is pretty cool. But then came along a new demographic of people that were never into fantasy, and all of the sudden they reppin Magic and that fantasy life! The old school guys meanwhile, well theyre just sittin back and observing with interest on how it will all unfold.

Great review. Now I'm interested in the Steel Will stuff. Looks nice, but not too pricey. I like anything from Tops too. I saw those Miller Brothers blades at the Blade Show last year. Super cool, but so expensive.
Yeah - the Steel Will stuff is nice. The Miller Bros - definitely a life-long investment there.

The days of paying top dollar for 1095 (which requires more sharpening and rust maintenance), will hopefully come to an end soon.

Say Heah Tim. All this wrong remarks how slippery the BK- Handle slip. I never once had any problems with my BK Handles. Infact there's a good video proofing they aren't. I really like the Grivory material for a handle.,,.
I have the BRAKIMO good knife , mine seems to chip easy and it will fall out of the sheath if you put i n the backpack straps upside down maybe I just got a lemon, I mainly use ontario ranger rd 7 , with a mora bushcraft black attached to the sheath

Hi, I've been a subber of yours for long time (and I do enjoy your vids) but seriously, that Becker is woeful at almost all tasks and potential tasks LOL and Yes, it is just a sharpened pry bar. Yes, I have used one, I borrowed it so I could really test it out. It is way too thick to cut any kind of food around camp or even in the house LOL, it is way too heavy for hiking in; -strictly for the vehicle use only; way to heavy for skinning or any game prep especially in an emergency where you may have to work fast and may already be tired. This particular model is too short as well if it has to be of those specifications. The guy who I borrowed it from was given it and knew nothing of knives full stop. Unfortunately he got laughed out of camp by about 40 (at least different campers, when they saw what knife he was carrying). Yes, they all had fixed blades of all sorts, none so crazily thick. The 1/4 inch thing is a crazy marketing gimmick which has unfortunately become sort of a social media "disease" and anyone can get this "disease" LOL. I was led to believe N Becker was or is a chef??? What chef would design such a thick bladed knife? Sure, it can chop fishing poles but 5mm will do that too. I'll defy anyone to take this thing camping or hiking as their only knife for 5 days or more and not wish they had brought something else.
Yeah - it was my first and I didn't love it. But I do think with some learning it is usable. You've tempted me to get it back out and to work with it more.

Just getting. Started in prepping &building my bugout bag. Choosing a knife is a big pain! Just learned of batoning, is cool, but what knife? Watched many reviews & research, seems the really great knives are over $150/200. My limit was $100 but have raised it to $150. Really was liking the Schrade 6 +”, loved the price too! Yet have just discovered several bad reviews Looking at Ontario Rat 7 or Woodsman, Essee 6 ( most pricy), or the Steel Will Argonaut you just reviewed. I’m retired no deep pockets. Live in Rocky Mtns. I’m open to suggestions.
did you do any comparisons of the la police gear infantry verses the LMF in the field to see quality comparisons? would like to know how they stack up against each other and if the price of the LA police gear is worth getting vs. the LMF
The BK2 is 1095 *Cro-Van* which is better than regular 1095
@Eli Buckley it’s a difference nonetheless.
@Eli Buckley Actually, it is objectively better than 1095. 1095 Cro-Van has improved edge stability and corrosion resistance compared to regular 1095. Sure, the difference isn’t big, but it’s still an improvement. And yes, heat treatment is always a crucial component. Any steel will perform poorly if not correctly heat treated.
Can you do a review of the Jungle Master JM-034 it's a 15.75" overall length 10" blade machete. It's made from Master Cutlery I just bought one and did some small work around the yard and it seems really well made.
maui808boiz master cutlery stuff will probably not appeal to most of his viewers, the master cutlerys I have used were junk.

It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering how to get a a FREE Edt multitool survival tool without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my friend Sam got amazing results with it.
the Miller Bros blades are even more expensive but they are custom made
hundred dollars isn't a lot for a knife. a good bushcraft/survival knife will cost you around 100-200 dollars. some of the prices go even up to 400 dollars and some unique knives cost even up to 1000...
what I don't like about the BK9 is the fact I think they need to finish the bottom finger notch to fit a finger so you can choke up on the blade a bit if you need to! what a waste.

I use a mix of cameras - Canon T3i and my iPhone. Audio on this one is external mic - just need a quiet spot.

i prefer the drop point of the bk2. also, the bk7 isn't a quarter inch thick.
I personally prefer the Bark River Aurora II in CPM 3V.

I think the BK7 is a better suited large bushcraft knife than the bk9.
I seem to remember the Becker BK-7 is thick as the BK-2, whipe the BK-9 is thinner. I may be mistaken. I'd prefer a nine inch blade at 3/16" to a 7" blade of 1/4" stock.
Why Tops can't put a factory 90° spine on the barakimo and B.O.B. knife is beyond me. IMO you can't call a knife a bushcraft knife if its missing one on the most basic and useful features of a blade.

zknives.com, actually the 9Cr18MoV is a little bit better than the 440b. But the AUS8, is the same as 440b. except it's annyaled. ,, .
....you lost me at "400$". I have 15$ dirt cheap chinese kukuri in it's classic shape. It has 30cm blade, it's made from 5mm stainless steel sheet and has ruberized handle. It chops, it splits, it carves and I tried to destroy it but wasn't able to. Long story short - when it comes to heavy blades you're good as long as you have something with a blade shape and somewhat sharp edge.
If you really believe that, you are an idiot, and should never get in a real survival situation.

Ciao, would like to ask your advice because I want to make a more powerful possibilile and excellent quality cutting sets so that long hard me, I would take a compact knife (but robust and reliable) and a larger (machete) needed in severe environments, that in addition to machetes function also let me split the wood for the fire or making a shelter. For the compact knife (blade on 10/11 cm) it is undecided whether it is best stainless steel or carbon steel? I propose tropongo three models and tell me what you think is better: Esee 3 steel 1095, Lionsteel M4 steel M390 or Fallkniven F1 VG 10 laminate.
Let me know you which is the best choice.
For the good quality machete seem the Ontario Bar in 1095 and the Ka steel, but specifically I do not know which one to choose, you have one in particular that you would recommend?

I would take a compact quality knife, robust and reliable, so the cost is not a problem ... like quality which is better in your opinion?
I try the product with best quality and reliability, the price is not a problem, what do you recommend
For a smaller knife I like the ESEE Izula. Low cost and light-weight. That's a solid option. For a larger one, people love the ESEE 6 and the Jungles - I am working on reviews for both of them to be released in the spring. But both have gotten great reviews. TOPS knives too - great products. LT Wright makes some great knives too - a little more expensive but supreme quality. The smaller DPX gear knife is also nice for a smaller one - a little heavier than an Izula. You can also check out 3 Dog Knife at Northern Knives - really solid stuff - custom made. If you want a BEAST of a knife, the Miller Brothers Blades are excellent. Expensive but a life-long investment.
What do you think of Lionsteel M4? It can be a great choice for a compact knife?

Tobi Calitz good question. There are different advantages to each one. My experience would say most people seem to like 1095 for survival knives. But the brothers of Bush craft from tops knives is now available in stainless as well.

The DPX Gear 12... LOL. That is not a knife, that's a 400 $ extension. I am about to receive the SCHF37 by mail, and I had some second thoughts even about the lenght of that 7" blade.

Chris Gilliam Heavy & handy. After touching up the blade with the sharpener couple of times, went through birch like a hot knife through butter when battoning wood for the campfire. Made it feel quite efortless. But I had to put a paracord through the hole in the tang just in case so that I can put the cord around my wrist when working with the knife - if it slips into your leg, you will have to pry it ut from the bone.

christopher martin modified D2 for increased toughness and edge stability but is pricey.
I have very large hands too. I have really big feet as well. You know what they say about big hands and feet......that's right....big gloves and big shoes! 🤣
Ok, I've been looking for a solid quality knife that I could trust in a serious life or death situation because I am taking my son for an adventure of a lifetime!!! We're going to the Amazon Basin for a 5 day survival hunt without a guide! Anyway the reason for this comment is that after watching probably 50 videos on good quality survival knifes I've noticed a strong pattern taking affect. The BK 2 from KA-BAR is always in these videos. Now I understand that for the price point it's a decent knife. But what I don't understand is that it's always picked as a good survival knife. First of all, if my son or families life depended on having the right survival knife in a life or death situation, I sure wouldn't want a knife that if the handle got wet and believe me in the jungle it rains everyday, to have a slippery ass knife to perform survival task's when your life depends on it! So when people include this knife in their tutorials about a real survival knife, they might want to leave that one out.
