    You've just solved two problems for me - interdependent problems with the 45 degree mitre. Getting both square and dimensions right can be tricky. I sometimes gain and lose 1mm or 2mm in dimensions, by ensuring that the item is square. If I gain on the length, I lose on the width, and vice versa. This method guarantees dimensions and makes keeping square much easier! I can't wait to try it. Thanks so much mate!!

    I agree that each person should choose whichever method works best for them. With that said I suspect a lot of people who have trouble ending up with 90-degree corners, cutting half as many times with one quick slice on the 45 may have a heat distortion issue. Once you figure out where to tack first, which beads to run first and in what direction 90's are quick and easy.

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you, but as some people only ever make one or two welding projects in their whole life, it's nice for them to have another way that may be easier for them to make the cuts. Thank you for your comment.

    Wow! What a coincidence? I have also independently conceived this idea sometime early this year,while contemplating on how to fabricate iron doors and windows using mostly angle iron bars and glass plus pieces of flat bar strips,it then turned out that this was an irreplaceable and most reliable option for certain areas of the design, so I say well done to you and for any one who is interested in my own design idea ,you can do so by directly responding to my comment for me to provide more details

    I use this technique for making equipment stands for A/C units. This makes a stronger stand than a 45˚ miter and it is easier to keep the stand square. Keep all the welds on the bottom for a smooth top surface

    Instead of having to miter (2) separate 45 degree angles to match perfectly on four different sides, I’d much rather cut (1) 90 degree angle and slap it into a factory edge. Well done brotha! 🍻 I’ll have to forever use this lol so many times when I was starting out in fabrication, I struggled to get a true 45 degree miter every time. This technique is so simple yet, it’s clearly a thought out engineered design, meant for structural integrity as well as aesthetically pleasing weld joints.

    I’ve done them both ways. The 45 is faster and easier-if your saw is at a vertical 90 degrees. Otherwise when you cut a 45 it’s going to be off. I use the bandsaw for the slice in the end for this method. Much easier, and cleaner than a grinder. But if that’s all you have...
    The only advantage to me with this method is no sharp corner that needs to be welded. It’s better to weld this joint.

    There seem to be a lotta blokes that like the 45. I dont make much from metal (or angle iron more specifically) but I cut the square out when I do. The other method is just cuttin corners, pun intended

    I started using this technique instead of a 45 it's much better and easier to keep square

    • @arkhamkillzone
      @arkhamkillzone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      gurjinder singh doesn’t it lose strength when using that method? I would think so and the 45 degree cut with a straight weld sound far more superior to me.

      This is part of my trade. Perhaps you could actually qualify how a 45 degree prepped weld would be stronger!!!
      (Keep in mind, I never use a stinkin' inaccurate droppy anymore, so all of my welds of this type of joint are straight 45 degree, which also MUCH quicker)

    Can a pendulum jigsaw can cut 5mm iron or steel angle ?? To cut this cope joint..

    • @GavinClarkdiy
      @GavinClarkdiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think you could cut across the angle, but I think you would have a bit of a hard time cutting down along the angle it close side, as the steel gets thicker and I think your blade would want to wander out away from where you need to cut. I have cut these with an hacksaw before, a bit slow but with not too many troubles. Just try it with the jigsaw see how it goes. Hope this helps a bit.
