Same for me, I heard this in 2016 when I was on a 16 week residency in Nagoya with the arts university there. I had my own apartment and bike and I would cycle round the suburbs at night taking photos and getting snacks from 7/11 and Lawsons. Such happy memories to be care free again for a short time in my early thirties!

Thank you for your work in saving these videos, truly. Does anyone know if Kurdtbada is still active/anywhere to be found? He’s just a name to me, but one I have so much to thank for. He compiled a niche internet microgenre of music (or several subgenres, depending on semantics and how you want to argue it) for years without fame or profit in mind. I think that’s what appeals most to me with vaporwave- people just chopping, screwing, and playing with the music of yesteryear for the sake of nostalgia, fun, relaxation, etc.- and that makes it true art, even if it’s almost always based off preexisting music.
There’s 346 30+ minute videos in this playlist. That’s likely 150-200 hours of history and effort saved for the moment, of a very unique direction of music that’s been the soundtrack of my cleaning, showering, housework, homework, paper writing, video games, train rides, plane rides, bus rides, and smoking/drinking sessions with countless friends.
Kurdtbada, if you ever read this: thank you for compiling the background music for the relaxing moments of my adulthood. It really brought me so much joy.

Same! It had some very interesting discussions in the comments. Like how westernization influenced Japan so much during their bubble economy era. We were comparing on how "western" the Japanese commercials look in the 70s and 80s vs in the 2000s and today. And one of those 80s commercials was this of Coca-Cola.

Apart from feeling like there are a few tracks missing, it's mainly the quality & that's funny because it's supposed to be Lofi, lol. The original was Lofi, but very clear & crisp if you know what I mean.

The video quality is bad because that's just the source. I remember trying to increase it but that attempt was futile. As for the audio, as the description states this is a reupload of a reupload. Kurdt had to remove a few tracks due to copyright issues. The audio quality might not be too good due to the source I use probably being from a simple youtube video downloader. This is also one of my very first reuploads. For the first few I was still using a video editor for rendering which caused the audio to be re-encoded, further decreasing the quality slightly.
