I am not a vegetarian and the truth is that I am one of those who run away from vegetables, but after eating at "Comer Sanar Vivir" my appreciation for nature increased exponentially. What a good report and what a rich tour you took around the city, grateful for providing us with this gastronomic information, for those of us who are lovers of good food, it is very valuable. I will closely follow your experiences! "Comer Sanar Vivir" are the best, keep it up. congratulations
Thank you for this video. I’m vegan so this will really help me out so much when I visit Cuenca in May. They all looked really yummy. By the way, I’m already a subscriber and I really appreciate all your great content. You have a great “stage presence “ and so colorful.
I thought of you when making this video. I know it can seem intimidating to go somewhere and not be sure if you'll be able to eat on your terms but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in Ecuador.
It all looked fantastic and I’m definitely hitting a few of your suggestions next time I’m in Cuenca. In November, I went to Negroni three times to enjoy the Beyond Burger and fantastic views. I had no idea there were so many other options in town. Thank you for producing this fantastic video!
From Victoria BC….My gf and I are returning to Cuenca in Sept.after 8 years absence..This is a great video for us veggies..Thank you….and we will reference your vid when we arrive….we’re subscribed….Can’t wait!
Oh I love Victoria! One of the best cities in Canada for vegetarians. You'll love veggie life in Cuenca, there were so many other places I could have visited, lots of fantastic options.
Nice to see you make a video on vegetarian food! We enjoyed eating at all of these places in Cuenca (except the last one which I did not know about, but will have to check out next time). Another great veggie place we liked is Ananda Comida Vegetariana, which is run by the sweetest lady. Also, Fullo Criollo has delicious veggie soup and vegetarian arepas!
@ayngelina Awesome to know !! I am vegetarian for 15 years & once vegan for 17 years & wanting to visit Ecuador !!! Thank you so- much for the video & your reply !! I love Canadians, btw.!! 👍 👍🙏💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
Thanks so much for the kind words, Cuenca is definitely one of the best places to find plant based options. But a lot of traditional Ecuadorian food is also vegan because meat was a luxury.
Cuenca is by far the easiest to eat vegan, I have considered sharing one in Quito if I go there. Other towns are much more difficult to understand vegan, you’ll need some Spanish to help them understand no egg/dairy.
The last restaurant you got lunch from looked really good, take out the fresh tomato and any onion and the salad is perfect. Subscribed almost forever!
Wow, can’t wait to go back and check out these suggestions. I was in Cuenca 2020 just as COVID-19 hit. Hopefully will make it back in 2023. Enjoying your Chanel.
As a Cuenca resident, really appreciate your including the restaurant addresses and have been a Subscriber. Totally agree with Nuevo Pariaso in SanBlas and Good Affinity, huge plates of yummy food! Will try the Venezuelan restaurant on Hermano Miguel and the Thai/Mexican (that’s an unheard of combo:) Very grateful for addresses this time💜 Love your videos.
Existen otras opcionas como fratello que se encuentra en la doce de abril y guayas, también existe otro restaurante Ananda en la hermano miguel y juan jaramillo y el comer sanar y vivir ahora se encuentra en la Honorato Vasquez y borrero
I love all your videos. I am planning a trip to Quito with visits to Cuenca,.Manta and Galapagos islands and more. I would have been there already but surgery prevented me from going as planned so maybe June or July. Keep up the great videos. I may write later for tips on trips and guides, rental properties etc.
Thank you so much, of course I'm happy to help. And I credit everything to Andres, he's my friend. But I also hired him because he's a national guide and he builds custom tours for me.
Thank you for your review of these veggie restaurants, Ayngelina! Was wondering how easy it is in Cuenca to identify GF options - do they just say "Gluten Free" there, or is there a spanish translation? So excited to get back to Cuenca to give these places a try. Keep on making all this great content, please 🤤
Oh I'm so glad you liked it! So yes in modern restaurants you'll also see GF, V, DF indicated on menus and people will be aware. The term is "sin gluten" which means without gluten. If you go to huecas (hole in the wall restaurants), markets or street vendors you'll need to know a bit more Spanish as not everyone will be aware of gluten. So a dish which may appear not to have flour in it could be thickened with it. In this case you need to know if it has "harina de trigo" or wheat flour, which is an issue. This is different than "harina de maiz" which is corn flour and ok. But Ecuador has a lot of different flours but these are the two most common.
I went to Nuevo Paraiso a lot when I was living in Cuenca for six weeks -- I'd take my leftovers home and one almuerzo would last me for three meals. SO much food and so filling for under $3.
@@ayngelina How long will you be living there? I miss it a lot and am even considering moving there someday when I'm older/closer to the retirement stage. It's a great city for ex-pats, and the cost of living as compared to the US for daily living is incredibly low.
Awesome video!! Will definitely be visiting good affinity when i next go into the city :] The cannolis from comer sanar vivir look so good I'll have to get that when i next pass by the area!
I am so thrilled you enjoyed it. I do want to share more vegetarian videos as I travel. I know a lot of vegetarians and vegans worry when they come to Latin America but there are always options. Now people who don't eat carbs, that's tough!
@@ecuadorexpat8558 I just mentioned it to Andres and he told me he's been trying to get me there for a while. Maybe I can do a video about high end food in Cuenca.
Thank you 💜 I'm not vegan either and they were so good. There are a lot of vegan and veggie places and if someone didn't eat soy I'm sure they could easily substitute with more beans.
In the cities it's easy and then some of the more expat type towns like Olon etc you could get foreign vegetarian food and vegetarian ceviche is becoming very popular. Some small towns they'd understand vegetarian and might be able to accommodate with lentils/beans, salads. It's becoming a lot more common so I'd expect most people would try to help you. Happy Cow would be a great resource for each spot. I also have a website about food (that's my job) and so it would be good to familiarize yourself with traditional Ecuadorian food that is vegetarian. Tortillas, llapingachos, locro, etc are veggie based.
How is the beef ? - Quality and prices ? - Argentina has 'my' kind of food but their economy & distance rules them out. --- All else in Cuenca appears very desirable. -- ? --
As a rule Ecuadorian beef is mediocre. They don't age it and so it's rarely good, unless you go somewhere that specializes in it. In other videos I eat beef that is great but I won't just order it anywhere. That said in Cuenca quality food is not expensive. I think that makes it the best food city because you can eat at cheap places but have great home cooked food. But also because there are so many foreigners and Ecuadorians who lived abroad in Cuenca you can find specialty meat markets with better cuts that will be far cheaper than you have at home.
