  • This video is meant to show the quality of life you can experience as an Expat living on a $1,039 a month budget in Cuenca Ecuador.
Ecuador is affordable, and the lifestyle you can have on a typical Social Security check of $1,500 a month for a single person or $2,500 for a couple is very attractive. Budgets vary, and many live in Cuenca Ecuador on much less than $1,500 and others far exceed $1,500. We've met people living on under $1,000 while we've been here, so that is a possibility.
See our $1,500 Cuenca Ecuador Quality of Life video: • Cuenca Ecuador on a $1...

If you are living in Cuenca Ecuador or are considering moving to Ecuador You'll want to follow Cuenca Expat Magazine at: expatsmags.com/
Cuenca Expats Magazine is the largest English-language publication in Ecuador. Half (10,000) of all native English-speaking expats live in Cuenca. As the “unofficial” voice of Cuenca’s expat community, our magazine is a trusted source for business and services. Cuenca Expats Magazine’s mission is to help build a stronger, more cohesive expat community and assist in their integration into Cuenca society as new and productive citizens.

Julie and I retired early not by luck but by planning.
One of our spokes to our wheel for savings, and now an income stream
is Fundrise. Basically we are invested in many apartment complexes around the country.
We get a portion of the rents in the form of dividends, and growth in value with the appreciation
of the properties. We currently have selected an income REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust)
which historically pays between 7.5% - 9% annually in dividends. You can chose a balanced REIT which has a split between appreciation and dividends or a REIT where it's focused on appreciation and not dividends.
Check it out to see if it's a fit for your savings, or retirement strategy. Feel free to share this with those you feel may benefit from this program.

I’m an Ecuadorian living in Houston, but I remember going to Cuenca every spring for break and loving everything about the city. Although Guayaquil is where my home is, I have always had a soft spot for the Andes. Took my wife to city outside of Cuenca in 2003 and we fell in love with it’s highland country feel.

Im fixing to do that this summer as soon as my lease is up. I fear being homeless in America, as im an elderly lady, alone w no safety net, and a doctor messed up my hip replacement so I'll use a walker forever. It's no condition to be alone in but I can't face the thought of being homeless, Especially in the cold.
It makes me sad that America has taken in ppl from all over the world and helped them have a better life, but we have few places to go now that we are old.😢

I just returned from Ecuador and spent two weeks in Cuenca, a month in Manta and a week in Galapagos. Cuenca is a lovely city with so many places to visit and with the Tranvia you can get across the city inexpensively and quickly. I was lucky enough to meet friends in Galapagos who live in Cuenca and they also have a really nice apartment for a very reasonable cost. Ecuador is a beautiful country with wonderful people. I will very likely return there.

I visited Ecuador for 10 days a number of years ago and spent 4 in Cuenca. If I were to move to spend significant time living overseas Cuenca would be top of my list, Primary reason is the climate as I hate hot weather. Having $US as the currency is a big plus, and there are no extra costs/prices for being a foreigner.

Nice video, I’m actually from Ecuador and moved to Florida in 2002 when I was 21 years old. When I used to lived in Ecuador I used to enjoyed both worlds the coast and the highlands. I honestly enjoyed more the highlands cities. But I’m pretty much living the American dream in the States (Im a government employee and have VA disability, the wife and I don’t have kids, which is pretty sweet.) If I ever go back to Ecuador I can live like a king just with my VA disability but one thing that I do not miss from Ecuador is the robbery. I personally was robbed twice when I was a teen in Guayaquil plus the heat sucks over there that is why I enjoyed more Quito, Latacunga, Ambato, Cuenca. But good for everyone that can move and enjoy retirement in another countries with a small budget 👏🏻👏🏻

Ecuador is a great country with great people. Not to throw shade on
anyone, but you should know that the only people I know who move to
Ecuador are those who never considered Colombia. Emilia and JP said so
on their "why" video. In the beginnings of the Pandemic, many foreign
nationals had to be rescued from Ecuador, because the government
suspended all flights. I know other people who had to be rescued from
Ecuador for other reasons. Visit Medellin and the Coffee Region of
Colombia before you decide where to retire. Just a friendly suggestion.

Wow, she really got herself a great apartment!! Tell her to buy a hummingbird feeder with a bee guard. She should really take down the one she's got. A bee sting could kill a hummingbird and I know that she doesn't want that.

I spent 2 winters in Cuenca. Temperature is like spring in Toronto. Lovely place, lots of colonial buildings. I felt safe there, lots of expat activities. I'm a big city girl, so Cuenca's a little too quiet for me.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. Just wondering if your guest in the video is planning to continue traveling now that she's settled in Cuenca (post Covid)? Can you comment on how easy it is or how often expats travel from Cuenca, domestically and internationally to Europe/Asia? (Thinking of costs, connecting flights) Than you!

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

As you can guess travel currently is a little tricky with each country having their own requirements. This said, she actually is scheduled to visit Egypt in a few months with some friends she’s made in Cuenca. You can look up flights from Ecuador on Skyscanner.com Guayaquil and Quito are the two international airports here, with Guayaquil the closer of the two. Cuenca has regional airport for a short flight to Guayaquil or Quito if needed.

Great apt, just one thing, in from Azogues 25 minutes from Cuenca and let me tell you i pay $180 a mont eve thing included, and food is even cheaper I get 20 oranges for $1 or 5lbs bananas for a dollar organic milk 🥛 for $.70 cent a liter and organic eggs 🥚 for .25 cents a piece, life is great and plentiful of outdoor activéis.
One thing to notice, is really expensive getting McDonalds, Taco Bell, Bebe ether king than eating in a restaurant that serves organic food.
If $1000 spuds cheap to you try living in the surrounding of Cuenca, sick is Azogues, Paute, Biblian, Girón, etc etc will blow your mind, $500 or less.

Jose... Are you an expat, tourist, resident, or born n raised Ecuadorian? Is that a small apt. or hotel/resort set-up? I’m hoping to travel some time this year. I’m Ecuatoriano born and raised in Chicago. And when I go to Quito I avoid any and all eateries with US names. I always eat real street food. Mercado foods are the best too. Nothing like being in Ecuador and enjoying a round pan de agua w a Coke.

Indeed, Ecuador is dirt cheap in regards to food, obviously without counting expensive restaurants, and the price for the apartment is spot on considering that's inside a residency building, u can rent apartments/houses for around $300 a month, so the price can actually go less than $1000 if u want. And for the record, Cuenca is not that dangerous compared to other cities like Guayaquil for example, so it's safe to say that overall it's more pacific, and as pointed out in the video, ppl over there like to hang out and party, drunk ppl can be an issue depending on where u at in Cuenca.
    Greetings from Guayaquil, great vid!

My travel is close at hand as soon as Covid-19 dies down and things get relaxed a little more. Ecuador has everything to offer everyone’s idea of a getaway. I will be searching for you expats to show me the cheap eats. My treat. I can afford to spend $10 on food and drinks for all of us 😀
