I just found this channel while looking at french cleat videos and I'm loving it! Last year I built myself a computer desk right when wood prices went through the roof so I ended up making a 3 legged welded steel frame desk with a 1/2" 4x2' plywood desktop in that same ebony stain. The 3 legs it to allow the computer to fit to the side and gives it kind of a futuristic floating look with gussets and triangles to support the whole structure but I definitely want to do a big wooden desk like this once I get a larger living space

Sounds like you built a nice looking desk too. I hope you get to build your wooden desk one day.

To saw off a bolt or something like that, you can use a drilling machine and put the bolt in the drilling machine and push it onto the sawblade and spin the drill (fasten the sawblade of course). I did this a few times when i had no other options, works great if you know how to and goes quite quick as well. Handheld drilling machine of course. Might be dangerous if done improperly, but if done right it should not be any dangers.

Yeah, I like the accidental floating leg. Cool build, but it needs some RGB to help with gaming lol.

AWESOME build ! i currently work from home and using a fold table :( i was looking for an excuse to get out in my shop and this looks fun to build. Wishing wood prices would go down. I also like on the fly you throw in supports through out the project. well done , keep up the videos love them.....stay safe stay healthy :)

Really beautiful desk. I've been wanting to make a new desk for my office, which will likely have a similar design. Having a similar desk, the only thing I might do a little differently is round over the front edge of the desk. My current desk has a plywood/edge banded top, but it's a little sharp on the wrists. So just on the front I might go with a quarter or half-inch strip of hardwood and round over the edge, just to make it a little gentler on the wrists. May not be an issue for your son though and those crisp edges are hard to argue with. I do really like the contrast of the stained plywood and the black base. I hope he loves it!

Thank you very much Nick. I like your idea of the roundover hardwood on the front edge. If I make a desk in the future, I might do just that.

Nothing wrong with the build quality itself, but looking at it, I would change some things ergonomically and space wise. First, the monitor stand looks way to high! I think the legs should be shorten to at least 4 inches in height (maybe even 3 inches depending on the size of your son's monitor). I say this because the top of the monitor should be at eye level. Unless your son has a long torso, he is probably having to look up at the monitor. I myself am 6' 2 and a half, and that would even be too high for me! The only other thing I would have done is I would increase the depth of the desk to at least 29 inches instead of 24. It being against the wall, that would give your son's computer even better airflow from the back side. I would also have some kind of cable management track underneath the backside of the desk for cable management. Other than that, great build!

Perhaps your son could build his own projects. You could be the helper, advisor and videographer.
