- This is a spiffing London walk around the area just north of Kentish Town encompassing Dartmouth Park and Parliament Hill Fields and up to Tufnell Park.
As usual Joolz talks about the underground river Fleet, the Forum (aka The Town and Country Club) and lots of other little weird unusual things. There's more about John Keats, cricket (players versus gentlemen), hymns and of course John Betjeman.

I thoroughly enjoy your walk and talk videos. I have a request. As a college student I lived in South Kensington at 42 Stanhope Gardens. I used the Gloucester Road Tube Station. Would love to see your take in that neighborhood. I sit here in Texas I enjoy your walks through one of my all-time favorite cities. Thanks and keep up the videos. Cheers!

Marvellous tour. I grew up in Mile End and lived in Islington for 13 years and worked for a while in the 1970s at 123 Dartmouth Park Hill when it was the Children's Community Centre. I've lived in Wellington New Zealand for 35 years and miss the architectural variety of London and much else. For me, NZ is an architectural and cultural desert. I'm 75 now and will most likely never be in London before I die so your tours are a treasure to me. Thank you so much.
I used to go to the community centre in the 1970s as a child
I worked there part-time in 1975. I think it was a good place for the kids. It was surely a great place to work. It would be wonderful to hear more from you. @@Biogeology

Thank you for this! I am an American who lived in Clevedon Mansions through the 1990s while working in London. Thank you for showing the 'hood. The Bull and Last certainly looks fancy! And it will forever be the Town and Country to me. Wonderful to see as I am now exiled in Philadelphia.

Great video Joolz. We lived in Lissenden Mansions for many years, and I went to William Ellis in the 60s.
A couple of other Old Elysians you would have heard of were; Richard Thompson (Fairport Convention) and Hugh Cornwell (The Stranglers); I believe they were in a school band called Emil and the Detectives.
I was in the same year as Julien Temple, who introduced us all to US bands; The Mothers, Jefferson Airplane, Spirit, The Doors, etc.
I love watching your vidoes, especially the NW5 and NW3 areas.

My mom and I stumbled upon the Southampton Arms the last time we were in London. It is a beautiful pub inside. They haven't modernized it too much or tarted it up. They also have a beautiful beer garden out back. Definitely worth a visit.
I stayed at an airbnb on monnery road just down the road from Dartmouth Hill park. This was a nice walk down memory lane for my long walks with my dog.
My hubby was born at Paddington hospital...1946...would love to see anything paddington...

What a lovely tour. I went to Willam Ellis in the 80’s (Primrose Hill before that) and know so many of the roads and pubs you walked in this episode. Thank you so much for bringing back a flood of memories. Did not know Eddie Grant went to Burghley! Btw, Titmus was one spinner who played for Middlesex who went to Ellis, the other is yours truly. Keep these coming!
They have done the Burghley school up since then
Fred was a right arm off spin bowler. He lost 4 toes in a boating accident while in the West Indies.

Great video Joolz, Brought back memories of travelling to William Ellis School in the 80’s there was a sheltered bench on the little grass verge between Grove Terrace and the main road (Highgate Rd) and for years it was home to an old hobo called Yorky. He was looked after by some of the local residents and legend had it that he was actually really wealthy and had hidden all his money in one of the nearby trees! Sadly he passed away in mid eighties and we never did find his hidden treasure!!
I remember Yorky used to be in the small park where Haddow House
Those tennis courts feature at the end of the flim "Blow Up" (1966). Also, you walked right pastthe sites Highgate Upper Level and Highgate Lower Level railway stations ;) - Great video as always.
Have passed through those streets in that area so many times without giving it a second thought. Nice to see the history behind it all from a fresh perspective!
I belong to an American podcast (on TH-cam) called 'Police off the Cuff' & recommend Joolz to all the cops in New York (visiting London) & beyond ! Excellent.
Wow, I'd never have guessed you were a Snuff fan, they still gig occasionally, and are still one of the great live bands to see. Always an awesome night out.
In 1960 I met three elderly ladies in Grove Terrace, mother almost 100, daughters each in their 70s, who had lived in the Terrace all their lives, commenting that the loudest noise they experienced in their childhood was from the sheep on Parliament Hill! There is a detatched house opposite, beteeen Gordon House Road and Lissenden Gardens, which I understood was the residence of Lady Hamilton after Nelson’s death.
Love the video reminiscent of when I resided in Dartmouth Park Avenue. Also, Kentish Town police station had stabling at the rear for some 12 horses, hence the large driveway entrance. 22:10
Really loved this one (so close to home) but sad you mentioned 3 local secondary schools (LSU, William Ellis, Acland Burghley) but didn't mention mine - Parliament Hill ☹️ but maybe I've missed it on another video... 🤷🏻♀️

One of the factories at 6.07 mins was the Shand Kidd wallpaper factory. I can remember as a little girl in the 1960's you had to take a big breath in and walk past as quickly as possible because the smell coming out of the factory was so bad!! Very vivid memory. We lived in Camden and my grandmother lived in Gospel oak so it's a route we walked every week. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the videos - Love all the houses & the colours on some of them. Red brick is always good. Mine in W!. near Baker Street was brown brick with stucco ground floor. All within easy walks to HTB & KT - the in Churches of the 90's/2000 & millennium years on - ' Alpha Courses ' were there then which have been the rage since back in the day. Even the Catholic Churches have them nowadays. London is such a lovely place!. Bless Badger.
Brought back memories. Gospel Oak (There used to be a butcher's shop there with a sign on the billboard "Meat to Please you, pleased to meet you!") and William Ellis Grammar school - I was there in the 70s. Parliament Hill Fields where we used to do cross country runs, play tennis and use the track.

Thanks Jools. Another excellent tour. As a Kentishtowner, we lived in Leighton Road, though now sadly living in Hertfordshire. I have so many memories of the place. I can remember my dear Mum taking my sister and me to the Forum to watch films like Whistle Down the Wind, The Young Ones and Summer Holiday. But not just old memories, a cousin lives in Lissenden Gardens, so i 'go home' regularly. I can say that the Assembly House and the Bull and Gate do good food. Little Green Street is a delight.
Perhaps a future walk could start in Leighton Road into Lady Margaret Road ( named after Lady Margaret Beaufort i believe) and on to Brecknock Road ( known locally as 'The Brecknock') which is the dividing line, literally the whit lines down the middle, between Camden (St Pancras) and Islington. Lady Margaret Road continues the other side of 'The Brecknock' but is then in Islington. It leads onto Tuffnel Park Road which leads, from opposite The Boston Arms,to Holloway.
I believe the great British actor Denholm Elliot, lived on Leighton Grove for many years....
Lived in bedsit Lady Margaret rd....coins for electric meter etc...late '70s..but we was appy! My friend Giuseppe lived opposite ..doorman Mortons Berkeley Sq W1

Hi Joolz, I enjoyed this one immensely. However, a couple of extra facts for you. I used to go to Parliament Hill girls school and the actress/comedian Dawn French used to be my drama teacher and the singer Dua Lipa is a former student too x
Great video! It shows that in almost any part of older London, if you look hard enough, you can find lots and lots of interesting stuff.

Fun fact... all my family from the East End claimed that Anna Fitzroy was their grandmother. Except my granddad who just said she threw a rice pudding (of all things) at him! Great vlog btw. I don't know if you been to Burano in Venice but they have a clause in the lease to say your house has to be a single colour and not the same colour as your neighbour's houses. Rather pretty effect... might be worth a Google.

Great video per usual. The Southampton arms is one of the best pubs in London, fantastic beer and cider selection and while the food selection is limited it is quite good. The pineapple is great as well!

As crime escalates in our major American cities your video is actually a good history lesson. Learning about highwaymen and the constant threat of being robbed in London, centuries ago, makes me realize very little has changed, just much more dangerous here in the good old USA, home to millions of hand guns and automatic weapons. Which is why I find it hilarious Prince Harry feels secure in California but claims he doesn't feel safe returning to a nation that has gun control. Always a pleasure Mr. J.

Always a joy to see a new Joolz Guide video, and I like the fact that you included the infamous Fred Titmus story. Titmus played for Middlesex at Lord's, and there were separate entrances for professional and amateur (gentlemen) players there until 1952, and the distinction was only formally removed as late 1962.

You can still see gigs at Boston Arms, or next to it at least. There are two venues - the Boston Rooms just above the pub, and the Dome, a larger venue just behind it.

What a lovely tour, living in Australia (30 years now) I watch all of your videos and they bring back many happy memories, however - what happened to mentioning Parliament Hill School (for girls), you were right there on the driveway at William Ellis, you mentioned LSU and even Ackland Burghley.
