I was expecting, I don't know, a heist removed , new missions but none of that now it's a pure fomo version and if you don't want to replace a car with a new one from the DLC then buy the membership
3 things: 1) You forgot to mention that they dropped “Expanded and Enhanced” from the title. Only a few things got enhanced and the ONLY thing that got expanded was Strauss Zelnick’s wallet. 2) They didn’t update single player showing that they’ve abandoned it completely 4) They did this just to sell more microtransactions. They’re only doing it to exploit more kids and literally steal their parents money.

Well, when they 1st announced the E&E version of this game, my friend was telling me how he thought the game was going to look like a brand new game with added gameplay mechanics and even a new map. I told him right then and there, knowing R* I can promise you that all it will be is the exact same game with a 60 fps option and maybe some texture up-res (that's if they even bother to do that much). Still, it's saddening to see how right I was.

I think that they are afraid of cannibalizing sales of gta5, it's still making them good money, and they know that people will migrate to 6 when that becomes available. I wouldn't be surprised if 6 has been finished and that they're just waiting to see how much next gen versions make
9:30 issue is that this new fire and smoke quality cannot be turned down, so when using something like a hydra on console it actually tanks your FPS, so yeah, it looks better but it definitely isn’t practical, especially in online mode fighting other people, another example is an RPG shot or grenades from the other person, will most likely lag your game
I'm both a pc and console player, I tried the enhanced edition on my PS5 and was amazed at how little effort was put into this. It's sickening to watch what Rockstar has become.

Since you made this video, raytraced reflections were added and the headlights of the players cars are raytraced so shadows from them are cast accurately for all objects. It just wasn't quite ready at the time the expanded version was initially released. The reflections use a combination of short range raytracing and traditional box maps for the distance. It's surprisingly well implemented for a 10 year old engine. Hopefully GTA6 and the modern engine will improve upon it and perform like Spiderman and Miles Morales. All the cash everyone is throwing at Rockstar is funding GTA6 so it better be incredible.
Yeah you already said what I was going to say. These games currently look like 2 different gens of games on pc and ps5. I'm not sure how it looked at release. Now. You are paying for what you're getting at 10 dollars on pc. It feels like a handheld downgrade when I get on it.

The game does feature ray traced reflections in the Fidelity RT mode. It's quite neat to see but at 30fps it's not that drastic of a change to buy it again.
The only reason why I upgrade console versions is to help the new players make money so they don’t buy cash cards or the subscription pass. That’s what we should do. Make it so that micro transactions are obsolete in the game, by making the new players uninterested in the cash cards. We take the hit, so Rockstar takes a major hit.
Rockstar is basically that kid who says a joke once in class and makes everyone laugh, but then continues to tell that joke every next class for 7 years until everyone hates them.
I really don't know why people still defend Rockstar. They literally just ported a 9 year old game and just barely added anything new to it. There was nothing "Expanded" or "Enhanced". They only did it because they want more money and of course they are still trying so hard to keep milking the game.
Cube map reflections simply work like that. I don't fault them for using cube maps. They're relatively cheap and efficient. It's just that RT shadows aren't very visually impactful in this game. That's the part that's really disappointing. (if you got your hopes up to begin with)
The "motion sensor function" controls you mentioned, that's been in the game since day one, at least for the PlayStation versions. That feature was even utilized for GTA 4 as well. Other than that, fantastic video. Appreciate you making it.
What annoys me is why they haven't added motion aiming. Like why have it for everything I won't use it for but ignore the one time it is useful. Modern Gyro Controls are extremely impressive and I'd take it over analog aiming.
Charging a price for the third time while doing no upgrades, cutting features, using false advertising and even dropping the name "Expanded & Enhanced" in secrecy is not only disgusting, it's insanely insulting.
Would really love this to come to PC, mainly for the AA options, maybe even DLSS. Playing the PC version there are jaggies with FXAA, even at 4k. And it's really hard to justify the massive framerate hit of even just MSAA 2x, even on my 3080. I'd rather have a stable 120fps and deal with the laggies.
Feels fine to me, RT reflections were amazing and almost every surface reflects our character , though resolution or distance to which ray tracing is applied is limited ( of course what more can you expect in 2060-2070 equivalent gpu with native 4k res with RT shadows and reflections) resolution boost is great, RT is good I found only 2-3 cons which is unchanged draw distance and anistrophic filtering from PS4/xbox one version plus the higher quality grass settings are restricted to Fidelity mode only which is a bummer since they could have applied that in performance without RT mode so these issues were not so troublesome and will not bother everyone, major issue is with RT reflections though it is great but in buildings while driving If viewed at distance they have some serious issues with reflections which is the only visible issue in this game

I hate to do this since I agree with you for the most part... But it's been confirmed through testing (mainly by Broughy) that there is one thing they did do that likely set them back big time with this re-release. They managed to untie the physics from the framerate. This was a problem since I believe the 2013 version and if you learn how this undertaking is done and the kind of clean up you have to do once you've done it due to all the bugs and issues it causes, it makes sense not a whole lot was done elsewhere as a result. So if one person ran fidelity and the other ran performance/RT, the game will always run at the same exact speed no matter what.
In 6 weeks gta5 will be 10 years old the world has changed so much in that time. Listening to rockstar employees and upper management i have a feeling that gta6 will be going along the roots of the rebooted Saints Row i hope im wrong.
This is why I ended up ditching consoles for PC. It all started for me back when GTA 5 was getting its first update when it was moving from PS3 to PS4 and practically forcing you to upgrade in able to move your online account to the next gen version or else eventually losing the ability. At the time I needed a new PC for college work so I could only afford a PC or a PS4. So I ended having to opt for a PC since at least I could get a gaming PC that could do it all. At first I thought I would eventually get a PS4 later on when I could afford it but by that time I realized just how much better the selection of games and pricing was for PC than consoles that I ended up just upgrading my PC and forgetting about consoles all together.

Itsfunneh GTA online is free but if you want the single-player campaign you have to pay an additional $10 that's what I did I have the entire game for $10 I didn't pay $40
The problem with framerate caps isn't that consoles can't go unlocked. They can, but they simply couldn't and will not reach 120fps in fidelity mode bc of their lack in the same processing power PC:s are able to reach. Keep in mind you're talking about a device that is running ~@ 500$ vs a 1500$ PC. Yes the next gen allows for higher graphical setting but reaching them for that price isn't a cake walk and 120fps at fidelity mode is unreachable at this point, so it simply doesn't make any sense unlocking them really. The benefit would not be noticeable, and not all monitors support VRR. The hardware they were able to put into the PS5 for as low as 500$ is already impressive.
The new smoke looks kinda fake. It's very noticeable, the way it's cuts off too early (while those thick clouds of smoke should expand much higher) and how weirdly it's animated (the movement of those smoke clouds textures looks very artificial). Just look at it.

I'm curious to know what's going on in the Rockstar studios, behind the scenes, for them to come to the conclusion to even think for a second that GTA DE and GTA E&E are fine products that their customers deserve and not something much better. It's so ridiculous and frustrating, thinking that we could have much better stuff out of these games. But no, it's best to count that sweet sweet cash instead of having passion for the GTA series. Rockstar isn't getting scummy enough so that the fans get real pissed and they stop buying their shit.
This is what happens to a company when very vital influences leave. Without the direction of Dan, Leslie, and Lazlow the team is struggling to come up with something worthwhile. They shit all over RDR2 because it was Dans Swan Song, and they'll shit all over GTA till they are no more than a re-release company....which is seemingly already begun. There is no GTAVI because they are flat out scared to release a flop.....so they cling onto what is working. Eventually it will blow back and they will be left with nothing but old gems....and no trust from the public that they'd even do them justice with a proper remaster.

I don’t know If you knew this, but on PS4 the transition between characters takes about 8.5 seconds in any circumstances and the PS5 takes around 9 to 10 seconds… wtf!

I really hope that in a future update, they realize that some people would like to play story mode, even after completion, and that almost all of the houses AND vehicles that are available for purchase in GTA online (even some of the businesses), can be made available for Mike, Frank and Trevor in story mode. It is high time that Rockstar devote as much attention to story mode as they do to GTA online

I will say that the update with Dr. Dre felt like an expansion that added to the story mode but you had to play it in Online. One thing Rockstar has not done in the last decade is upgrade the single player experience...which is what made the series great in the first place. I'd just like to see a single player expansion of some kind to this game.

You should talk about why games are so buggy at release and not upto standards. Why are Triple AAA games like BF2042 suck and companies like Suckerpunch make legendary games like Ghost of Tsushima. How the the online era destroyed the standard of gaming, and companies focus more on how to make money through online rather than focusing on game core itself. Thus many games felt repetitive like Call Of Duty. I miss those days where every new game didn't just outclassed previous installment but also outclassed any game came out that time. I think rockstar did little to anything is because they transferred 95% of there Budget and Staff to GTA 6, since GTA 6 has to have more interactions, better ai, better graphics, better online, More servers and New Models + Making it work With PS4 and Low-end PCs as much and Debugging and a big ass map, And a new whole story with voice actors and fresh experience, etc. But they are still ripping off people
As a virtual photographer, lighting has a massive role, and how lighting is implemented is even more crucial. Seeing people get ripped off by "raytraced GTAV" marketing tactic is awful. That is not raytracing, they just made it a part of their marketing strat.
Why RT shadows? RT reflections would probably be too expensive and tricky to optimize. RT global illumination and ambient occlusion will require major tweaking to lighting, especially cut scenes. Even if the lighting is more accurate you'll probably need to tweak lighting to accommodate RT global illumination/ambient occlusion. The original Crysis Remastered PC review highlights this issue. RT shadows is basically a cheap free upgrade that doesn't require much tweaking.
I honestly feel like a good amount of Rockstar employees wanted to create a good updated version, but were ultimately rushed to release this sooner than they could improve everything they wanted to.

As a PC player i will point out one thing. I think the real reason Rockstar wont give PC the HSW content is because they know that will pretty much eliminate any potential benefit to owning the Expanded and Enhanced version.
And the more insanse and concerning part about this is "Expanded and Enhanced" ripoff that is GTA 5 on the PS5/Xbox Series X is that you will still have Rockstar Games fanboys and apologists that will buy this without question, and then have the nerve to defend this! I bought only GTA Online Expanded and Enhanced for PS5 for 10€ yesterday because it was discounted from 20€, and I admit the only thing that makes it kinda worth it for me personally is the 60 FPS and the Controller feel. When I change to the (sadly capped) 30fps fidelity mode, it feels so clunky.
The next ten years that proceeded GTA III’s release in 2001 Rockstar pumped out not only Vice City, San Andreas and GTA 4. We also got games like the Max Payne series (1 and 2), Bully, LA Noire, Red Dead Revolver and Redemption, the Midnight Club series (1,2, 3 Dub Edition, and Los Angles), and Man Hunt. In the near 10 years since GTA 5s release in 2013 we’ve had GTA 5, GTA 5 Enhanced (Next Gen), GTA 5 for PC, GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced, GTA The Trilogy Definitive Edition, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Other than Red Dead 2, it’s been nothing but GTA 5 over and over with their original trilogy half assed remastered in for good measure.
No one is getting ripped off cause no one is forced to purchase it. I feel there is too much complaining now a days. It usually sounds like a persons personal preferences that they feel should be pushed onto these companies. Im sure pleanty of people were happy with their purchase.

When it comes down to price differences, I've always been a firm believer in that games for PC are cheaper because you invest more into the hardware, on console you pay more for the convenience. Still doesn't excuse the terrible practice.
I guess it's deal between Console manufacturer (Sony and Microsoft) and Publishers. Consoles are always sold in loss or at least not in a huge profit, so they took more profit from the games, that's why first party games exist to cover their loss from hardware selling. Every games in console tied to it's manufacturer, either PS or Xbox, but with PC it's kinda independent because most games didn't restricted to Steam or Epic. Addition, that's why you have to pay monthly to able play online.
PC games used to always be $10 cheaper than consoles anyway even 15 years ago when I first got into PC gaming. I always assumed it was because it was slightly more expensive to make games for consoles because of having to confine themselves to the console's specifications or something. But PC gaming has always been cheaper for the software but more expensive on the hardware side.
I think it's cheaper because they don't have to spend money on physical copies and they can skip the middle man (gamestop etc) and sell directly to the user, also steam charges 30% and epic 12%, if you're a big publisher, like R*, Bethesda, EA or ubisoft, you can sell your games on your own client and keep 100% of the profit. On top of all that, you can pirate games for free, which really incentivises these companies to sell their games at even more affordable prices.

I went from my PS4 to PC, then I got GTA5 free from Epic giving it away one month, so I didn't even have to purchase it again on PC. This is exploitive and just wrong.
This why I ended up ditching consoles for PC. It all started for me back when GTA 5 was getting its first update when it was moving from PS3 to PS4 and practically forcing you to upgrade in able to move your online account to the next gen version or else eventually losing the ability. At the time I needed a new PC for college work so I could only afford a PC or a PS4. So I ended having to opt for a PC since at least I could get a gaming PC that could do it all. At first I thought I would eventually get a PS4 later on when I could afford it but by that time I realized just how much better the selection of games and pricing was for PC than consoles that I ended up just upgrading my PC and forgetting about consoles all together.

I mean, my PC I had built then was on Par with the PS5 at about $500 at the time I built it, but with the option to upgrade hardware in the future. Now that I’ve upgraded hardware with a 5800X3D and 7900 XTX, PS5 is can’t even touch the performance of this thing. Also, don’t have to worry about my games not working anymore because of greedy cooperations. Not to mention all the free games I’ve gotten from places like the Epic store. I’ve only purchase like 2 games from Epic, but have hundreds of games in my library from them, even got GTA V for free from them. I cant believe I bought and completed gta5 on my ps3 in 2013, and here we are in 2022 and that horse is still being flogged and it's been released on the ps5. My older boy is currently playing it on our ps4 and the game looks and feels dated now, very much of its time, and it was a great game don't get me wrong, but there's absolutely zero desire or temptation for me to dive back in when I see him play it.
Us PC Players spent more on our Machines, my Computer Costed me $3,000 that's 6x more than a PS5, we always deserved more quality, we spent more for quality we deserve more quality, ps5 is worth $500 so it gets $500 quality. You get what you buy, and the fact that Rockstar can't even give us small things like better fire/explosion Fx and Ray tracing. Rockstars using PS5 for its money, they did us PC Players dirty.

It isn't incompetence it's the same decision making they did for their Defective Edition Trilogy, remove the superior product, while pushing forward the cash grab. Can't retreat back to a more stable/worthwhile platform when your character is deleted, and if you bought the PS5 edition while owning a PS3/4 then they made money from you, so if you leave at that point - no pressure on them, they got their money from you (again, sucker). And with the additional knowledge of them removing weekly discounts/x2 events (like August said) this is further proof of that. They're shortening the leash on their playerbase and seeing just how short they can get it - to keep you and your wallet in their doghouse.

Well, when they 1st announced the E&E version of this game, my friend was telling me how he thought the game was going to look like a brand new game with added gameplay mechanics and even a new map. I told him right then and there, knowing R* I can promise you that all it will be is the exact same game with a 60 fps option and maybe some texture up-res (that's if they even bother to do that much). Still, it's saddening to see how right I was.

9:30 issue is that this new fire and smoke quality cannot be turned down, so when using something like a hydra on console it actually tanks your FPS, so yeah, it looks better but it definitely isn’t practical, especially in online mode fighting other people, another example is an RPG shot or grenades from the other person, will most likely lag your game

Since you made this video, raytraced reflections were added and the headlights of the players cars are raytraced so shadows from them are cast accurately for all objects. It just wasn't quite ready at the time the expanded version was initially released. The reflections use a combination of short range raytracing and traditional box maps for the distance. It's surprisingly well implemented for a 10 year old engine. Hopefully GTA6 and the modern engine will improve upon it and perform like Spiderman and Miles Morales. All the cash everyone is throwing at Rockstar is funding GTA6 so it better be incredible.

The game does feature ray traced reflections in the Fidelity RT mode. It's quite neat to see but at 30fps it's not that drastic of a change to buy it again.

The only reason why I upgrade console versions is to help the new players make money so they don’t buy cash cards or the subscription pass.
That’s what we should do. Make it so that micro transactions are obsolete in the game, by making the new players uninterested in the cash cards. We take the hit, so Rockstar takes a major hit.

I really don't know why people still defend Rockstar. They literally just ported a 9 year old game and just barely added anything new to it. There was nothing "Expanded" or "Enhanced". They only did it because they want more money and of course they are still trying so hard to keep milking the game.
Cube map reflections simply work like that. I don't fault them for using cube maps. They're relatively cheap and efficient. It's just that RT shadows aren't very visually impactful in this game. That's the part that's really disappointing. (if you got your hopes up to begin with)
I expect more games to use RT shadows going forward because it can help to save time on rendering shadow maps
The "motion sensor function" controls you mentioned, that's been in the game since day one, at least for the PlayStation versions. That feature was even utilized for GTA 4 as well. Other than that, fantastic video. Appreciate you making it.

Would really love this to come to PC, mainly for the AA options, maybe even DLSS. Playing the PC version there are jaggies with FXAA, even at 4k. And it's really hard to justify the massive framerate hit of even just MSAA 2x, even on my 3080. I'd rather have a stable 120fps and deal with the laggies.

Feels fine to me, RT reflections were amazing and almost every surface reflects our character , though resolution or distance to which ray tracing is applied is limited ( of course what more can you expect in 2060-2070 equivalent gpu with native 4k res with RT shadows and reflections) resolution boost is great, RT is good I found only 2-3 cons which is unchanged draw distance and anistrophic filtering from PS4/xbox one version plus the higher quality grass settings are restricted to Fidelity mode only which is a bummer since they could have applied that in performance without RT mode so these issues were not so troublesome and will not bother everyone, major issue is with RT reflections though it is great but in buildings while driving If viewed at distance they have some serious issues with reflections which is the only visible issue in this game
They promised so little and still managed to underdeliver, amazing.
I won't buy gta 6 even if it costs less than 10$. Rockstar is just shit

I hate to do this since I agree with you for the most part... But it's been confirmed through testing (mainly by Broughy) that there is one thing they did do that likely set them back big time with this re-release. They managed to untie the physics from the framerate.
This was a problem since I believe the 2013 version and if you learn how this undertaking is done and the kind of clean up you have to do once you've done it due to all the bugs and issues it causes, it makes sense not a whole lot was done elsewhere as a result. So if one person ran fidelity and the other ran performance/RT, the game will always run at the same exact speed no matter what.
In 6 weeks gta5 will be 10 years old the world has changed so much in that time. Listening to rockstar employees and upper management i have a feeling that gta6 will be going along the roots of the rebooted Saints Row i hope im wrong.

The problem with framerate caps isn't that consoles can't go unlocked. They can, but they simply couldn't and will not reach 120fps in fidelity mode bc of their lack in the same processing power PC:s are able to reach. Keep in mind you're talking about a device that is running ~@ 500$ vs a 1500$ PC. Yes the next gen allows for higher graphical setting but reaching them for that price isn't a cake walk and 120fps at fidelity mode is unreachable at this point, so it simply doesn't make any sense unlocking them really. The benefit would not be noticeable, and not all monitors support VRR. The hardware they were able to put into the PS5 for as low as 500$ is already impressive.
The new smoke looks kinda fake. It's very noticeable, the way it's cuts off too early (while those thick clouds of smoke should expand much higher) and how weirdly it's animated (the movement of those smoke clouds textures looks very artificial). Just look at it.

I'm curious to know what's going on in the Rockstar studios, behind the scenes, for them to come to the conclusion to even think for a second that GTA DE and GTA E&E are fine products that their customers deserve and not something much better.

I really hope that in a future update, they realize that some people would like to play story mode, even after completion, and that almost all of the houses AND vehicles that are available for purchase in GTA online (even some of the businesses), can be made available for Mike, Frank and Trevor in story mode. It is high time that Rockstar devote as much attention to story mode as they do to GTA online

I will say that the update with Dr. Dre felt like an expansion that added to the story mode but you had to play it in Online. One thing Rockstar has not done in the last decade is upgrade the single player experience...which is what made the series great in the first place. I'd just like to see a single player expansion of some kind to this game.

I think rockstar did little to anything is because they transferred 95% of there Budget and Staff to GTA 6, since GTA 6 has to have more interactions, better ai, better graphics, better online, More servers and New Models + Making it work With PS4 and Low-end PCs as much and Debugging and a big ass map, And a new whole story with voice actors and fresh experience, etc.

Why RT shadows? RT reflections would probably be too expensive and tricky to optimize. RT global illumination and ambient occlusion will require major tweaking to lighting, especially cut scenes. Even if the lighting is more accurate you'll probably need to tweak lighting to accommodate RT global illumination/ambient occlusion. The original Crysis Remastered PC review highlights this issue. RT shadows is basically a cheap free upgrade that doesn't require much tweaking.
As a PC player, I agree. It's not right how they're treating their customers. Rockstar has become extremely complacent and greedy.
I honestly feel like a good amount of Rockstar employees wanted to create a good updated version, but were ultimately rushed to release this sooner than they could improve everything they wanted to.

I bought only GTA Online Expanded and Enhanced for PS5 for 10€ yesterday because it was discounted from 20€, and I admit the only thing that makes it kinda worth it for me personally is the 60 FPS and the Controller feel. When I change to the (sadly capped) 30fps fidelity mode, it feels so clunky.

In the near 10 years since GTA 5s release in 2013 we’ve had GTA 5, GTA 5 Enhanced (Next Gen), GTA 5 for PC, GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced, GTA The Trilogy Definitive Edition, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Other than Red Dead 2, it’s been nothing but GTA 5 over and over with their original trilogy half assed remastered in for good measure.
Good for me as I sold my Xbox 360 recently and not upgraded yet.

CDPR lied about ray tracing as well for Cyberpunk on current gen consoles. We don't assume shadows when we hear RT. We expect reflections.
No one is getting ripped off cause no one is forced to purchase it. I feel there is too much complaining now a days. It usually sounds like a persons personal preferences that they feel should be pushed onto these companies. Im sure pleanty of people were happy with their purchase.

When it comes down to price differences, I've always been a firm believer in that games for PC are cheaper because you invest more into the hardware, on console you pay more for the convenience. Still doesn't excuse the terrible practice.
I guess it's deal between Console manufacturer (Sony and Microsoft) and Publishers. Consoles are always sold in loss or at least not in a huge profit, so they took more profit from the games, that's why first party games exist to cover their loss from hardware selling. Every games in console tied to it's manufacturer, either PS or Xbox, but with PC it's kinda independent because most games didn't restricted to Steam or Epic.
Addition, that's why you have to pay monthly to able play online.
PC games used to always be $10 cheaper than consoles anyway even 15 years ago when I first got into PC gaming. I always assumed it was because it was slightly more expensive to make games for consoles because of having to confine themselves to the console's specifications or something. But PC gaming has always been cheaper for the software but more expensive on the hardware side.
This logic is actually very valid.
I think it's cheaper because they don't have to spend money on physical copies and they can skip the middle man (gamestop etc) and sell directly to the user, also steam charges 30% and epic 12%, if you're a big publisher, like R*, Bethesda, EA or ubisoft, you can sell your games on your own client and keep 100% of the profit.
On top of all that, you can pirate games for free, which really incentivises these companies to sell their games at even more affordable prices.
consoles aren't cheaper though..

This why I ended up ditching consoles for PC. It all started for me back when GTA 5 was getting its first update when it was moving from PS3 to PS4 and practically forcing you to upgrade in able to move your online account to the next gen version or else eventually losing the ability. At the time I needed a new PC for college work so I could only afford a PC or a PS4. So I ended having to opt for a PC since at least I could get a gaming PC that could do it all. At first I thought I would eventually get a PS4 later on when I could afford it but by that time I realized just how much better the selection of games and pricing was for PC than consoles that I ended up just upgrading my PC and forgetting about consoles all together.

Sony burned me when I got a PS4, and swore I would never purchase a console again after my experience. Built a PC in 2019, and wondered why it took me so long to do so. I mean, my PC I had built then was on Par with the PS5 at about $500 at the time I built it, but with the option to upgrade hardware in the future. Now that I’ve upgraded hardware with a 5800X3D and 7900 XTX, PS5 is can’t even touch the performance of this thing. Also, don’t have to worry about my games not working anymore because of greedy cooperations. Not to mention all the free games I’ve gotten from places like the Epic store. I’ve only purchase like 2 games from Epic, but have hundreds of games in my library from them, even got GTA V for free from them.
My advice, build a PC, it will cost a little more up front, but is so liberating once you do. A

I cant believe I bought and completed gta5 on my ps3 in 2013, and here we are in 2022 and that horse is still being flogged and it's been released on the ps5. It isn't incompetence it's the same decision making they did for their Defective Edition Trilogy, remove the superior product, while pushing forward the cash grab.
Can't retreat back to a more stable/worthwhile platform when your character is deleted, and if you bought the PS5 edition while owning a PS3/4 then they made money from you, so if you leave at that point - no pressure on them, they got their money from you (again, sucker).
And with the additional knowledge of them removing weekly discounts/x2 events (like August said) this is further proof of that. They're shortening the leash on their playerbase and seeing just how short they can get it - to keep you and your wallet in their doghouse.
That is what "transfer" means, yes. They just did a really godawful job at attempting to explain that was what was going to happen to users.
