  • Anthrax is one of the most terrifying words many American's can even think of. Today we're going to tell you exactly what anthrax does to your body.

    Back in the early 2000’s, what scared Americans more than any supernatural or world ending scenario was… an envelope?
    You heard that right Brainiacs, but more specifically, it wasn’t the envelope itself that scared people, but rather the fear of what could be inside. Today, we take a look back on our nation's history to talk about the infamous Anthrax attacks in 2001, to hopefully shed some light on exactly what anthrax is, how it affects the body, and what you can do if you become infected.

    Of course you forgot to mention that the mortality rate of inhaling anthrax is very high compared to ingestion - the very reason why five people died with the terrorist attack. Clearly, if it was just as simple as going to the doctor those people would have lived. Calming people with knowledge only works if you actually do enough research to know what you are talking about. You basically just told your entire audience to not fear something that, under the right conditions, is incredibly deadly.

    The 2001 Anthrax was traced back to it's origin, a bioweapons lab in Virginia. The Anthrax letters were used to make certain news/media reporters and politicians to fall in line, and not go against the war in Iraq.

      No one knows who the perpetrator was, but it was most likely bioweapon expert Bruce Edwards Ivins, who had worked with the US army in Maryland. As investigations against Ivins increased, he committed suicide. His motive may have been that the fear generated by the attack would increase interest and funding into the anthrax vaccine program, which Ivin had spent 20 years working on.

Yesterday I had enough and went to the hospital and got blood drawn and a extra. Would this disease appear before symptoms in those tests because obviously I don’t have any symptoms right now

    Are you sure that it’s not contagious? It was contagious in the Middle Ages and was a factor during the bubonic plague, it was spread by body fluids and skin on skin contact.

    • @andylionfish
      @andylionfish ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthrax is not contagious in the same way a cold is, if someone with anthrax coughs on you, you won't get anthrax. Anthrax evolved to infect animals in the wild, the spores are released into the soil through decomposition of an old host to eventually reinfect a new host, and while today this may seem inefficient for humans, during the middle ages there were bodies everywhere. Anthrax is also not spread through skin to skin contact, however, if you have spores on your skin or clothes, in rare cases you can infect someone else the same way that humans get anthrax from working in close proximity to livestock. In the middle ages, this could have been a concern, but if someone is in the hospital for anthrax, they have probably already been cleaned, and are probably in hospital clothes. I have no idea where you are getting the bodily fluid thing from honestly, because anthrax isn't even sexually transmitted, and the black marks it causes are necrotic lesions as opposed to pustules. This video is very good for a quick PSA type thing, but not for in depth scientific stuff on anthrax, I'd recommend the CDC history of anthrax, "Death in a Small Package" by Susan D. Jones, "The Anthrax Attacks" on Netflix, or the anthrax episode of This Podcast Will Kill You.
