For everyone's reference:Tyrant = Daut, TheViper, NV & Jordan(Green, Light Blue, Red, Dark Blue)RVK = FeAge, MalevolentWave, Wrath & Dogao(Grey, Yellow, Orange, Purple)I had trouble following the opening half of the game because it wasn't completely clear which teams each player was supposed to be representing.
You can also usually tell by looking at the scores on the bottom-right corner; they're grouped together, and scores should be shared, so when there's a shift in score all 4 members of the team with switch position. The team members will also always be next to each in the scoreboard positions, and some of them even had their clan name in their screen-name.
quality youtube channel. my friends and i just got into this game and im excited to know there is a community of people to learn from, thanks for providing this stuff, and that mod you guys are working on...ridiculous, amazing how this game is still up and running through the magic of the internet
has anyone realized how incredible this game looks? it just downed on me that side to side with the fun there is also aesthetics! how did they do these construction models back then?
+Paulo H dude , you do realise Jurrasic Park, the movie is from 1993 and has better 3D models? and the quality is crap, you need to have in mind this is a HD remake I dont think you know much about technology :p
Yay, a 4v4! I love watching maps with multiple opponents. 1v1 just gets so samey, they all seem to play out the same. Bigger matches have more chance for variety.
Slinging means that one player gives another player resources so that the other player can pressure other players. This strategy is mostly used in 4v4 games. It can be used in different ways, you can Feudal Sling somebody, or can you Fast Castle as a pocket-player and then proceed to sling and still up in a reasonable time to the Imperial Age.
This is not Nomad. It's Land Nomad, a custom map. Land Nomad is a map without water and with much resources on the map. But you start with standard rescources what means you have to cut wood before you can built your tc.
Hey Zero, on your AoC game commentaries, could you link to the replay file (for example on AoCZone) in the descriptions? Sometimes I'd like to go back and watch a game replay again, but can't find the game anywhere (such as this game)
Impossible. Land_nomad rules have been designed to prevent just that. According to the latest code of conduct, any player engaging in combat before building a TC forfeits the match. It's also been established that all players' first building must be a lumber camp and that no other structure may be built before a TC is completed. In other words, land_nomad forces players to build lumber camp and then a TC, necessarily, and to commence warfare only after laying down their TCs.
I believe the video shows a game played in that tournament :) Also, since the rules aim at reducing the number of "lame" matches -- where luck is more important than skill -- I believe they are widely accepted on Voobly. Then again, those are community rules, which means that if u're playing ur own game with ur own friends, you don't need to abide by them. But usually, people do :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on a 4v4 nomad map like this (where you're likely to be near at least one opponent), surely as Chinese you should just send your villagers to go and kill an opponent straight away with your superior numbers?
well for me the resolution and the workshop support is the only reason l like the aoe2 hd but you could still buy the resolution patch from voobly for much less
Nice commentary! Another problem with slinging is that unless you research coinage and something else I forgot, only about 80% or of your tribute actually goes to the ally, and since the two were only Feudal, they couldn't research them so a good portion of their resources were lost to nothing. I think if Saracens went camels/knights and Byz went pikes/skirms the game would have lasted longer, although Green probably would have won it for them the same way in the end.
Still, this was only for an official tournament. Must they hold for any rated game on voobly? Just saying, not that I enjoy vill fights and that stuff.
I agree that in your example slinging would be a very good option (indeed they sort of did it in this game with red slinging green) but in your case the ally is at least castle: coinage is available. Because two of Tyrant kept slinging they couldn't afford castle (no coinage or town centres) which slowly grew to create a large economic gap between the two teams over time. Obviously it was a risk they were willing to take, but it backfired on them.
The game is only 14 years old... I was also very good at AoE, but these guys actually still compete, where as I don't. I moved on to AoE 3, and then SupCom (I can beat the hardest AI on SupCom in about 5 minutes, no small feat.)
When I used to play this (like 2003-2008) with people from Heavengames, I remember in these games the pocket player would build up the critical mass of paladins, but not split them like daut did, instead rush in and get under the TC's of the slinger players, rapidly kill the TC and vills, and move on. Also anywhere the opponent wasn't looking, have a ram knocking down houses and such, or a mangonel. You can house then that way. One strategy against thouse "house walls" built in the dark age, like the one between pink and blue, is to drop each house to 5% with a ram but not kill them. Then when the time is ready, go in and kill them all at once. Guaranteed to house the player and they'll have to pull lots of vills to make 10 houses again
one of my favorite techniques are to make mass amounts or Chinese chu ku nu and siege rams, and garrison all of my chu ku nu's in them, run most of them to the heart of the enemy camp and spread the others not to far but kinda aways out then deploy them all, sometimes i build a few Calvary to distract castles but i usually dont, just depends on what mood im in
Yeah, definitely. You should check out the AoE2 online community. And also the 'Forgotten Empires' update which is a fan made expansion that just launched 4 days ago.
I think they should have a few different skin tones to help reflect different ethnic groups in the game. Also maybe four different looking groups of military units that are correlated with the four different building styles, western European, eastern European, etc. Of course they couldn't be too complex as that would make it hard to decipher what type of units you're facing, (spearmen, skirmishers, etc.)
Time to dust off the old Age of Empires 2 cover I guess :) Do people still play this activly online? Because I was a beast before, but now... I am not so confident :P
Good commentary there. Sad that a game with such good players got lost on what was essentially a tactical error from the start (the slinging) rather than getting to a big Imperial Age battle, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. I'm still not convinced monks are as effective as Zak says they are however!
The rules used when playing official Land nomad games! If you want full access to the rules used in Tribal Wars 2012 (last Land Nomad tournament held by AoCZone.net), go to w w w .aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?f=504&t=72980. Some rules include: For all players a Lumber Camp must be constructed as their first building. No Barracks, no Palisade Wall and no more than one House may be build until the first TC is up. No TC fighting. No fighting until both player's TC is up.
watching zero's commentaries i really wish hed get a puff cover for his mic or wahtever its called, and turn off stone and gold on the minimap... just clutter
First you need to buy the game (or download). You can play online on Voobly.Download the voobly client. Go on google and search for Voobly and you'll fiend it. When you start the client you have to log in. After that there will open a window called "game browser". If you are a newbe online (even if you think you are a verry good player against the computer but never played online.), double klick on "new player lobby". The lounge will open where you can join games ;). I hope this helped
Awesome game, I wish there was more high level clan battles that you could commentate. And that daut was unstoppable once he hit the paladin research. That was certainly a mistake by RVK.
23:58 is it just me or does it sound like good idea to kill all the villagers that have started building a castle that ur standing right next too lol easy AI could work that out.
nomad games are fun what i like to do is to find as many sheep as u can at first i like to find a decent spot by scouting with villagers and then bring them together look for a good spot with gold and stone within town center range or not to far from town center does anyone notice that feage scores is at 3000 at 19:00 he is getting pretty good resources i think that tyrant is going to win
i love aoe II !!! the only thing i would change a little are the units because they all look either english or french so something like keep the knight for all of them (except mesoamerican) but make the western european knight different to the northern european knight like they do with the architecture.
"FeAge could still win it, but it's not looking very promising as he's just resigned" is fantastic.
Ling Bon Spoiler. Guess I don't have to watch this one then. Haha.
RasmusDichmann
Sorry man. It was just a really funny line.
Didn't really expect to get upvoted to the top.
Ling Bon So British

Outstanding commentary! Well done bro!
quality youtube channel. my friends and i just got into this game and im excited to know there is a community of people to learn from, thanks for providing this stuff, and that mod you guys are working on...ridiculous, amazing how this game is still up and running through the magic of the internet
I uploaded in 720p... TH-cam must be taking forever on this one!
has anyone realized how incredible this game looks? it just downed on me that side to side with the fun there is also aesthetics! how did they do these construction models back then?
+Paulo H autoCad > made 3D models > render in 2D > add to game
its like most browser games today.
Srdjan Kasapovic they must have been really high res back in the 2000's those 3D models. like movie quality lol
+Paulo H dude , you do realise Jurrasic Park, the movie is from 1993 and has better 3D models?
and the quality is crap, you need to have in mind this is a HD remake
I dont think you know much about technology :p

7:46 aw CHEAP I would be so pissed if somebody did that to me.
Lmao so cheeky
Availible in 720p now guys :)

we need more casual team games like this
I got to wonder if the map would be easier to decipher if Zero had fog of war on, since it essentially "highlights" the units.
Hey Zero, on your AoC game commentaries, could you link to the replay file (for example on AoCZone) in the descriptions? Sometimes I'd like to go back and watch a game replay again, but can't find the game anywhere (such as this game)

These are great. Great commentary and information/tips/advice. Subscribed. Going to watch more later.

I think FeAge was supposed to be IronAge. I caught the connection, and I'm sure that others have too.
Hey ZeroEmpires, what do you think about a FFA World Map? Often ends in some awesome showdowns
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on a 4v4 nomad map like this (where you're likely to be near at least one opponent), surely as Chinese you should just send your villagers to go and kill an opponent straight away with your superior numbers?
I don't know why, but I really like your videos. And I actually watch them till the end :)
Feage really fucked up that game
@ZeroEmpires Any more AoM?
Great game though
2012.. Back when daut was a freaking beast, miss those days!
Zack when do you uploud the next episode of AoM?
how do you get so less ressources? When I play nomad on "low" ressources, I can start building a town center immediately.
I am curious about how Viper deal with Wrath in another part
how do these pros arrange these games?
they all have to be online at the same time, so that is pretty cool
It's called nomad and it's afaik already installed on your computer (so no custom map)
well for me the resolution and the workshop support is the only reason l like the aoe2 hd but you could still buy the resolution patch from voobly for much less
Minor thing, would it be possible to show the end game stats or are they only available if you're playing?
This is just an awesome vid, please upload more of these in the future :)
Nice commentary! where is a place i can play where people still play deathmatch and not CBA?
Still, this was only for an official tournament. Must they hold for any rated game on voobly? Just saying, not that I enjoy vill fights and that stuff.
Why are the trees so small?
How come the trees are so small?
I had this game but it didnt work on vista. Whats the deal now?
is he anti viper , he completely neglected his game play entire game except few seconds in start
Yes! Plenty of people out there to play, just get on Voobly and Gameranger to find lots of online matches!
hey, can someone explain me how the teams are that i can´t understand shit?
I agree that in your example slinging would be a very good option (indeed they sort of did it in this game with red slinging green) but in your case the ally is at least castle: coinage is available. Obviously it was a risk they were willing to take, but it backfired on them.
it was a three on four at that point with only one member of their team in a positive spot. as opposed to the four on their team.
Is this a custom map or default map? If default, can someone tell what name of this map is?
The game is only 14 years old... I was also very good at AoE, but these guys actually still compete, where as I don't. I moved on to AoE 3, and then SupCom (I can beat the hardest AI on SupCom in about 5 minutes, no small feat.)
guys my AOE2 won't start up... it says DrawSprocket can't switch to 640x480 resolution. Any suggestions on how to solve it?? thanks
How did you get this game to run in such high resolution ?
any chance of a good 3vs3/4vs4 bf match?
do they play with the map explored in nomad?
When I used to play this (like 2003-2008) with people from Heavengames, I remember in these games the pocket player would build up the critical mass of paladins, but not split them like daut did, instead rush in and get under the TC's of the slinger players, rapidly kill the TC and vills, and move on.

Awesome vid but which map is this? It's a very good map i think and i want also play on this map
If you find out plz tell me Id love to play AOE2 again.
just started getting back into this game, how would i go about getting into this sort of play?
+Jesse Lewis either Steam or Voobly.
Thanks :)
what site do i go on to play this game?
one of my favorite techniques are to make mass amounts or Chinese chu ku nu and siege rams, and garrison all of my chu ku nu's in them, run most of them to the heart of the enemy camp and spread the others not to far but kinda aways out then deploy them all, sometimes i build a few Calvary to distract castles but i usually dont, just depends on what mood im in

Why didn't dogao just destroy the magonel with a few villagers at 16:40...
4v4 are very confusing, you did a good job man :')
Time to dust off the old Age of Empires 2 cover I guess :) Do people still play this activly online? Because I was a beast before, but now... I am not so confident :P
You can play on Voobly. There are many players online ;)
it looks so bad with the trees that small, why do you have it like that D:
which unit costs stone? ... golems or what?
Good commentary there. And honestly, that was one hell of an epic battle!

as well as almost 1800 on Voobly.
Love this game, can't wait for the HD version!
you mean mangonel?
Do you use GameRanger?
You can buy it on steam.
Wow.... so many great players...

lol, yellow is grey's ally, you missed the whole game then :D
why dont i ever see villager rushes?
***** No, Like just a nomad harassment thing. If you time it correctly you'd have the advantage and be able to kill the opponent.
how to get it in 16:9 ?
How do you get this game?
is it free?
It's possible, but it's a dick move. And at this kind of level shit would have hit the fan if he did that.
29:49 11
Econ supported by the Chinese and Offensive with the Huns on a Nomad map, from the very beginning RVK is at a major disadvantage :|
I just watched the game and noticed Jordan didn't play as Mongols :P Surprise.
also 29:12 DauTs baes looks like a question mark...if u take of the extra stuff on the top
Stone and gold are the most important, because they are very limited, and all endgame units require one of them.
he uses Voobly... gameranger is 90% spanish/portuguese
still 360p...
nomad games are fun what i like to do is to find as many sheep as u can at first i like to find a decent spot by scouting with villagers and then bring them together look for a good spot with gold and stone within town center range or not to far from town center does anyone notice that feage scores is at 3000 at 19:00 he is getting pretty good resources i think that tyrant is going to win
you can sell wood too
i always want to klick but then the video paused
What is slinging? It's the 1st time I see a 'pro vs pro' replay...
its sending all your resources to your ally
i love aoe II !!! the only thing i would change a little are the units because they all look either english or french so something like keep the knight for all of them (except mesoamerican) but make the western european knight different to the northern european knight like they do with the architecture.
i still love feage! also, an interesting tactic that was perhaps worth a try.
No one getting pikes and Skirmishers against expensive and cheaply countered cavalry. No one getting enough Horse archers...
Skirms against cavalry, that works really well? :D Also, Cavalry Archers are a Hun thing really, in most cases not worthwhile for other civs.
21:44 Laughed the shit outta my ass ;' D D D
Really wish the people who did AoFE would darken green a little bit. Tough to see on green maps.
is this age of empires 2
what about DeathMatch replays?? Those are the best to see! ^^
