your commentary is great. really makes the games seem so exciting. I remember another one where you got so excited and your voice cracked. seemed like i was listening to martin tyler in the FA Cup final.
It's really simple why rukie didn't get heavy camels - they're a counter to heavy cavalry. you don't make the counter unit when the enemy doesn't have it
@TheChelseaFEVER I sped the game up. The game was played on normal speed, but I replayed it on fast speed so that the video didn't end up being 50+ minutes long.
Having multiple town centers help you to build villagers more efficiently, which is needed to quickly reach a high level of economy to sustain large scale battles in the game. They also provide centers for resources deposition and is better than just a mill and mining/lumber camp because u can garrison ur villagers inside for production if the enemy decides to raid. Typically 3 town centers is needed for a game to quickly boom your eco with villagers
No problems. I also recently realized that TCs are better drop off points than mill and lumber / mining camps because of its size. Villagers can deliver their resources by contacting any part of the TC, so there's less clustering and blocking of villagers when they attempt to go back to the structure and drop off the resource.
1. You can check all units stats in the technology tree (top right corner of the screen in game, or bottom middle when setting up the game) 2. you can double click on a unit to select all units of that type on the screen
Good explanation, thanks :) Garrisoning villagers sounds a good tactic. I usually do it with my main Town Centre, but it never occurred to me that it could be good protection *outside* the main base.
Well if you click on the town center, then right click somewhere for the villager to walk to, right click on a tree and the villager will automatically walk to that tree and crop it down.
Byzantines have a defense bonus on all buildings which means they're a pain in the ass to break down. Huns don't need houses which means fast villager production. Koreans have excellent defensive units and Turtle Ships are very effective. Spanish have very strong offensive units, cheaper blacksmith upgrades, and have missionaries which provide better healing/conversion than monks. Vikings have Beserks which regenerate health, so using them properly it saves a lot of resources. Good navy too.
It massively depends on map, rules and strategy. Chinese on nomad still start with an extra 3 villagers, that is insanely op. Hun on steams aoe HD start with 500 pop, you can use the villagers to scout for sheep at start since you don't need houses, they are not op but they do allow a consistently decent performance. Mongols on a map with a lot of fast food is incredibly op. ect. Listing civs like that isn't accurate and doesn't really help. However for a beginner I'd advise Byz Kor or Spanish.
Chris didn't took advantage of his momentum when he advanced to the Imperial Age. He had to go for the TC's instead of destroying the houses. And also, he didn't walled up again when Rukkie broke his walls. That's why he lose.
I knew Rukie had it in the bag when he literally expanded over the entire map except Chris's base even as he was being pounded by early bombard cannons. He could have done more with his cavalier army but he probably didn't press his luck because he knew he was set up to win the war of attrition, which he easily did in spite of setbacks.
Actually that's because turks don't have pikemen upgrades. They only have spearmen, which doesn't do enough bonus damage to cavaliers to make it worth while. They'll just get chopped down by cavaliers really easily. Even a big army of knights can chop down a large number of spearmen with minimal loss. The hand canoneers were an issue as well.
@Hunoghun I have found a solution! Check the latest upload and you will see that the sound is much lower now. Thanks for the comment I appreciate any feedback.
i have a question for you if i may ask and you seem to be more than professional about aoe to answer it.what kind of units or a mix of forces is best to deal with the menace of british elite and maxed out longbowmen, they are a goddamn nuisance when it comes to long range and only bombard units and trebuches can match their range.
chris had it when his 5 bombard cannons got into the base, if he had better defended them and quickly took out the a couple more town centers, the game was his
What are the advantages of having multiple Town Centres? Every player I've seen (including AI) seems to do it, but I'm not that experienced a player, so I've never really understood why. Where would be best to position them?
We all play different styles :) Mayans are just considered to be so great because Plumed Archers are just so cheap, quickly made and easy to mass. Also they have Eagle Warriors, whom are great against most units and are again, cheap and easier to mass than units they don't get like paladins. Also Mayans get Siege Rams and full blacksmith upgrades to their units! Unique tech gives Eagles 40+ hp, and their recourses last 20% longer. They are a really great civ because of all this :) hope it helps
I know, Viking boom is amazing! I was just making a small point. I think every civ is great, and can /destroy/ if played well. Some are just more OP than others, huns for example with faster stables, cheaper cav archers & no need for houses they can do quite a lot! I'm no expert to be honest, just letting the guy know about certain civs, not saying he's wrong or anything. We all play differently :) Msg him about the power of an Eagle push if you want, I'm sure he'd love to know :)
age of empires 2 never had it's own dedicated servers. it was originally hosted on MSN Zone (and lesser known GameSpy, and even lesser known, All Seeing Eye). MSN dropped the servers back around '06-'07. Now Voobly exists. I can't speak for AoE3, I'm pretty sure you can still run that through ESOnline, though Ensemble Studios no longer exists.
Weird that blue never took the relic when he built a castle right next to it, at the start. That would have been 4 compared to 2 relics, if he had taken it. Long term, that's a game winner, just by sitting on it.
Did you slow the replay down or are they playing in slow? That's a horrible speed to play in, personally anyway. Can't be doing with how long it takes scouts to get around. :p
I don't understand why Chris didn't make camels until 22:27. After all, it was pretty obvious from 17:17 (even before) that Rukie was going mass knights...
would be nice to have a list where you can see how well one unit does against another. in aoe3 there was no problem, that unit has this many hit points, this much atack and a x2 muliplyer vs cavallery. but in aoe2 its all just a foggy mystery to me :/ btw, is there a way to set the options to only select military units when villagers and soldiers are mixed?
I remember saying hi to you once on Age of Empires Online. Only took a few days to get completely freakin bored of it. How about u? By the way, awesome game, awesome channel, awesome vids, and awesome commentary :)
Actually, they all are around the same in terms of good. But then there is the term of situation/playstyle - If your enemy has no Siege Weapons and doesnt kill you off with Archers, Teutons are the god tier. On the other hand, if you play on an island map with a cavalry using opponent with strong navy (Spain, Korea, Vikings etc.), Teutons gonna be shit. "best civs" = Allround Civs. Situation + Playstyle determines how 'good' a civ is to you. ACRetro looks like a navy based style of player.
Both the Janissary and Conquistador are unique Hand Cannoneers but are much stronger and are more accurate. They both have bonus against infantry aldo it isn't stated anywhere in the game.
persian have a very wide range of units, aztec have +4 attack on infantry which means when used correctly they demolish japanese infantry, mongols have a wide range of siege along with a very powerful special unit and mayans have strong eagle warrior combined wth a fast and cheap but efficient special unit. You cant say those civs are shit. Aztec and Mayan are 2 of the best civs and Persian are one of my favourite mainly because of the 15% faster working villagers
wow. i would just have panicked had i been the blue one. never would have thought about the gold factor so well. but he really shouldnt have gone after the camels with cavaliers. couldve used anything else. they have really no armour awesome game learnt a lot
they only cost food, and they are actually pretty decent when upgraded plus they build faster and reisst conversion. cavaliers are better in the long run though
Anyone heard of Forest Nothing? I know it's not exactly going to be popular amoung players like this but it does make for some interesting games, and strategies!
sorry for spamming ,but this is an Obvious point that Needed to be pointed out Instead of Wasting gold on those Hand cannoneers , i would go for Camels + Hussars + a bit of bombards for those town centers and castles , that would Destroy rookie in no time
Awesome commentary. Very professional, and interesting. Looking for more!

Awww Zak has changed so much in two years.
@TheChelseaFEVER I sped the game up. The game was played on normal speed, but I replayed it on fast speed so that the video didn't end up being 50+ minutes long.
Amazing video/s man, I learn shitloads of things thanks to them! Nice narration skills also.
I love your channel, keep on showing these AoE games!! your doing a good job
This was GREAT! Thanks 4 Uploading
Wow, what an even game. Awesome!!!
Thanks for uploading.
What da fug? What did I just watch? That was awesomesauce! Amazing comeback!

What a game. These are the games you remember when you play them.

love your vids! Thank you so much for bringing this out. :-)
Wow! great match with a superb commentary! :)
That gold next to green's base, outside, was what finished the game so soon.
Good explanation, thanks :) Garrisoning villagers sounds a good tactic. I usually do it with my main Town Centre, but it never occurred to me that it could be good protection *outside* the main base.
It's funny how calm the horses look when the scouts fight.
I remember this map! I tried to go through the forest, all the way around and behind the other guy's base! Good times, good times.
Well if you click on the town center, then right click somewhere for the villager to walk to, right click on a tree and the villager will automatically walk to that tree and crop it down.
cant wait for the remastered HD version coming out on steam singleplayer and multi.

I've heard you mention the "dark age start" a couple of times. Do you think you could do a video on it?
We all play different styles :) Mayans are just considered to be so great because Plumed Archers are just so cheap, quickly made and easy to mass. are there any games with Byzantines ? I mean they are a great civ too but I haven't seen any games withthem
Most staff from Ensemble moved to form Robot Entertainment which manages ESO and made that abomible AOEO.
I know, Viking boom is amazing!

@TheChelseaFEVER for some reason you can't change the game speed in an age of empires 2 replay, i think its always stuck on slow.
One of the most interesting games!
age of empires 2 never had it's own dedicated servers. it was originally hosted on MSN Zone (and lesser known GameSpy, and even lesser known, All Seeing Eye). Is that music from Crysis 2 in the background? :P
Weird that blue never took the relic when he built a castle right next to it, at the start. That would have been 4 compared to 2 relics, if he had taken it. Long term, that's a game winner, just by sitting on it.

Very entertaining game, one of my favourites!
What an epic match!
Yes, Turkey wars! Let us have thanksgiving for this vid, no pun intended! :)
i just downloaded this game, played 3 games but left. Any idea on what race would be best for me?
this was right on time
I don't understand why Chris didn't make camels until 22:27. After all, it was pretty obvious from 17:17 (even before) that Rukie was going mass knights...
GREAT JOB
THANK YOU
You could say the same about the Mongols, they weren't around until the 13th century
I love this, subscribed...
@kalejoop Thanks for the reply! I tend to use them now more often.

@asmit10z Right, but what is that same thing?
hand cannoneer has attack bonus vs infantry.. jannisary doesn't. Hand cannoneer can be made instant from archery range. Easier to mass
I remember saying hi to you once on Age of Empires Online. Only took a few days to get completely freakin bored of it. How about u? By the way, awesome game, awesome channel, awesome vids, and awesome commentary :)
What is the reason I would make hand cannoneer instead of a Jannisary as Turk (Attack bonusses) Because the Jannisary is better... right?
Actually, they all are around the same in terms of good. Why are multiple Town Centers so important? Are they also important for like a boom long term economy and strong base?
how do you get the game time in the top left?
Whoa, what a match
Question: Is there a command that basically tells a trooper to go somewhere, but if he encounters an enemy, he will kill it?
Both the Janissary and Conquistador are unique Hand Cannoneers but are much stronger and are more accurate. They both have bonus against infantry aldo it isn't stated anywhere in the game.
yay, your vid made my day!
Press "A" I believe instead of right clicking to move.. if I'm not mistaken.
I am curious, why didn't Chris make pikemen to fight the Cavaliers when he ran out of gold? Is there a reason for this?
persian have a very wide range of units, aztec have +4 attack on infantry which means when used correctly they demolish japanese infantry, mongols have a wide range of siege along with a very powerful special unit and mayans have strong eagle warrior combined wth a fast and cheap but efficient special unit.
You cant say those civs are shit. Aztec and Mayan are 2 of the best civs and Persian are one of my favourite mainly because of the 15% faster working villagers
yeah, that never went anywhere. I'm not really sure about the details, but I think that Microsoft stopped funding for them.
Also, great match :D Really nail-biting stuff haha.
One question , was this Slow or normal ? or did you slow the game down , for Narrative reasons ?
great game, great to watch
wow. i would just have panicked had i been the blue one.
never would have thought about the gold factor so well.
but he really shouldnt have gone after the camels with cavaliers.
couldve used anything else. they have really no armour
awesome game
learnt a lot
Nice bombard ownage... best I've seen.
Chris had the unfair advantage of that section in the back of the map which was unreachable to Rukie
what an awesome game
they only cost food, and they are actually pretty decent when upgraded plus they build faster and reisst conversion. cavaliers are better in the long run though
@babouras84 oh... that's were the comment went... and I got to post twice on the other place, thanks for noticing man, gonna erase it now =)
You must play this with CD?
Mine is damaged...
@RodrigusVI
Hehe yeap its the other video with the drush.. lol (tough game btw)
What patch are these guys playing?
Anyone heard of Forest Nothing? I know it's not exactly going to be popular amoung players like this but it does make for some interesting games, and strategies!
Why didn't chris build more pikeman-style units to combat all those horseback units?
no you just need the disc to install it
Because he didn't have gold for research of pikeman and pierce mele armor of swords.
Amazing game!
Why was Chris fighting Rukie's cavaliers with hussars?
how to download this game ..
Great game
Good Game. The fast imperial helped.
is chris the same as orcus?
wow what a game!
me too but cataphracts are hard to come by on a turk v turk match
I LOVE YOU
GREAT COMMENT
Thanks! :)
ZACK PLZ DO SOME AOE ONLINE STUFF
