I know that I pronounced this word like 'leading experts say...' for years, until I read a book font electronic publishing that explained what you just said. And I went 'Ahhh!' Now this term actually made sense!
Also, it refers to the property of the font, not to how it is set. The minimal distance between the baselines, as you physically cannot move them closer together. You can always add spacers between the lines, but you can't make two pieces of metal overlap.

4:43 ahh monospace my beloved. Also the Open Type Font specifications are a thing of beauty. Its amazing how much work needs to go into such a necessary feature as rendering text
fun fact: in persian calligraphy (nastaliq) the measurement is "dong" (دنگ) which is 1 sixth of a dot (dots are cubical in persian and arabic calligraphy)

I wrote sooo much more than what ended up on the final script. I wanted to include slab-serifs, neo-grotesque typefaces, and so much more. Had to cut a lot to make a more comprehensible video but I might revisit this at a later date to go into more depth
Ah, nevermind. The entire video is riddled with seemingly minor mistakes and misconceptions. Which would be fine if the the video wasn't titled the way it is.
12 points isn't one inch, lol. 72 points is one inch. A sheet of US Letter size paper is 8½x11 inches, lol. You'd only be able to fit 6 lines of text on a page if 12pt were 1 inch. 😂

In typography, “leading” rhymes with “wedding”, because it derives from how much lead-the metal-was inserted between lines in metal type.
