  • The "Less Talk, More Do" Approach
I was chatting with a friend about how I teach improv, and it got me thinking about a teaching lesson I picked up from Master Sun, a Tae Kwon Do instructor in South Florida.
Master Sun used to say, "Less talk, more do." It's something that stuck with me over the years. It means you learn more by doing rather than talking. After you have some experience doing improv and your skills have accumulated, talking helps. In the beginning, the focus should be on the doing.
The more you do, the faster the skills accumulate and the deeper the intuitive understanding. You learn the skill in your body rather than only in your head.
That's our approach to improv at Pan Theater. We focus on doing rather than talking about doing. It's all about learning through experience, so your skill builds with each "rep."
This mindset isn't just for improv; it's a useful approach to learning other things too. It's all about doing the work rather than talking about it. You develop your skills by practicing.
So, here's a reminder from David at Pan Theater: less talk and more do.
If you want to do some improv at Pan Theater, come check out the Improv Dojo-a relaxed, fun drop-in class every Sunday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. It's just $20, and beginners are welcome. Come by and give it a try.
