One of the most iconic songs and video clips of the eighties. Wendy James has talked about the timing in interviews, when asked why she thinks they were so successful in that moment. Right everything, right time. In that moment there was a huge 1960s revival, pop Art and rock music meshed with Futurism and they took all these elements of the visuals and sound and just nailed it to the wall.
I remember when it came out. I was like "WTF is this?" The woman is made to look like a barbie doll, the pace is more like a ZZ Top, the voice is coarse, almost glottal, and then she changes this to a mellow voice of a choir girl, and the lyrics, they send her message straight to the bedroom. A real game changer in 1988, in the middle of SAW-era and otherwise polished pop, house music, curly heavy rockers and sweet reggae.
Yeah , when Sister Moon came on the Album I'd just purchased I thought my friend had switched tape to another group. Such contrast but it made the Album even more of a worthwhile purchase.
ZZ top were and are legends. Transvamps always were a middle of the chart band. A child of the time. Punk was dying, slowly evolving into Grunge, so this bands sound and looks was perfectly timed for '88. I just remember the girl was very good looking. But Janet Jackson climbed to the top of the charts... on both sides of the big blue.
super super super geil, das habe ich schon lange gesucht, vielen Dank und ganz liebe Grüße aus Deutschland, Du hast mir mehr als nur ein Wochenende gerettet, Danke 👍👍😉😉👍👍👍
This IMHO totally passes the 'if it were released today' test. Also as a metal head in the late 80s I had time secretly buy smash hits in case there was a poster of Wendy James...for...reasons.
