      Why bother? Not like other cars have holes for the horn. It just creates more drag.

    These Honda Civic Si’s and Hyundai Veloster Turbo/Elantra Sport are the two best value sporty everyday cars on the market rn that will run forever. As a hatchback user that values real cargo space, the Veloster Turbo would probably be the choice, but as you said, the Honda Civic Si outmatches the Veloster slightly in just almost every aspect. And I do think the Si’s manual shifter is better than Veloster’s, reverse gear should always be away from the driver.
    Everybody sings the Subaru WRX swan song until their headgaskets blow and they have to fill up for gas. Everybody sings for the Corolla Hatchback and Mazda3 until it takes them ten agonizing seconds just to reach 60 mph and they get out-maneuvered while merging in traffic by a V6 minivan. Say what you want about the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 being the best affordable lightweight sports coupe, but like the Mazda miata you just can’t have any friends or family members without leaving them in a parking lot

      @Noise Control 2x is an exaggeration, but I generally agree. That's why my past 4 new car purchases were all Hondas, but my point is the Koreans are catching up in long-term reliability and resale. Parity is not that far off.

    • @TheUchihasparky
      @TheUchihasparky 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Ya, for the same reason iPhones have higher resale value then androids, cause people think the Honda is better, simply for the fact it's a Honda. Hyundai has waaaaayyyy more reliable cars then honda, just like there are a thousand phones better then the iPhone, but people are stupid, so they will pay more for less

    I purchased the Si sedan a month ago as my daily. The Hondata flash makes a world of difference in waking up the engine. It’s how it should have come from the factory now. But I think it’s a great all around car that can’t be beat for the money.

      Did you eliminate the rev hang thats my big problem with the car when i test drove it

    • @andrewbond7949
      @andrewbond7949 5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      SavagexRaccoon It still has rev hang after the base tune was installed. I’ve gotten used to it and for daily driving it doesn’t bother me much. What bothered me much more was the engine running out of steam after 5k. But the tune is so good that it makes the stock setting feel very underpowered in comparison.I’ve modified and tracked Honda’s for 25 years and these new turbo engines are nice for the street but lack the sharpness and excitement of the old NA engines for track work and fun runs. My sons Type R is a lot of fun but it needs a loud mode from the factory. Another must have for the Si is the gas pedal relocate kit from Acuity which makes heel toe a breeze. But I do enjoy the Si as a daily and have zero regrets buying it. In my opinion it’s a no brainer for the price.

    Have a Civic Si. I am relatively old for the target market but have to drive a lot and don't have the ability to have an electric car. The Civic Si makes me money on mileage and is a blast to drive in the city traffic. Very excited to go out in the country with it next week and drive the Coronado Trail. I don't care about big engine noise and such, in fact would rather it be less than more because I drive a lot. I could have a more expensive car, but the Civic goes all in on conveniences in its design giving more than cars 30% more expensive. I did a lot of research before buying and am in love this car.

    This is to James and Thomas. Great videos! I have commented on a few previous comments below but wanted to post for you guys. James, a throttle house review of the 2018 Civic SI HFP was sent in a Honda email regarding the HFP release. I had been sceptical of the newer 1.5 turbo as I was driving the 2015 Civic si at the time. After watching your review in Honda’s email on the Friday night, I was at the dealership the next morning signing for my 2018 SI HFP. I am no longer sceptical of the 1.5. I wouldn’t go back to the 2.4 Na if left stock, and the front end with the lsd and HFP suspension is so much better than the front end on the last gen. Thanks for the great videos and for changing my mind on the new si.

    Just spent 2 days test driving both of these and trying to get the best deal for these. And i honestly much preferred the veloster. The civic although it was just as quick it didnt feel as comfortable to push to the red line. The veloster seemed to do it way smoother (with the 7 speed dual clutch auto) and the interior was much nicer in the veloster. Both were very fun little cars but personally i much preferred the veloster. (The $1500 i saved by buying the veloster are just a small bonus)

    Funny that you mention the VT seat raising every time you drove it. My 2019 r spec does the same thing only it lowers by itself. Even had it lower while I was sitting in it and I only weigh 195 so it can’t be me lol. It’s like it has a mind of its own and the “fantom seat” label you gave it is definitely accurate 😂

    The Veloster looks so good now. Just looks like a quality hot hatch from Japan should. But now i think the Koreans might be making better looking, bolder cars. I think it looks fast in an understated way and has an agressive stance to it. The Honda just looks like a Honda with a plastic spoiler on it to signify that its a "sports car".

    Choosing between these two would be tough for me. I owned an ‘05 Si (the 2-door hatchback generation) and loved it. I could easily see myself in another Si. Not crazy about the idea of a 1.5 liter turbo though. Would rather have a 2.0 liter NA. Also, I really like hatchbacks, and I’ve liked the Veloster’s design since its debut. In the end, I’d probably go with the Si, mostly because we had mostly good experiences with the 5 Hondas and 1 Acura we’ve owned.

    In the US, you can find the Veloster Turbo Ultimate Manual for the same MSRP of the Si. The Si in the US is not optioned as well as Canada, no Nav or LEDs so the Veloster is much better equipped. Not to mention the Si Sedan is just hideous from the rear with the tacked on oversized fake plastic vents. The Si sounds like a lawn mower or something whereas the Veloster sounds much better even though it is "enhanced" I still prefer that.

    Looked at both of these along with a handful of others as I wanted a fun, fast car for less than 30k and I ultimately settled on the 2018 SI coupe as, imo, it had by far the best feeling while driving, the handling is extremely tight, throws you back in your seat when you really get on it, super comfortable, awesome media center with android auto built in, ridiculous gas mileage, sounds great, and it's made by Honda...I've never had a bad experience from a Honda vehicle nor have I personally known anyone that has, their reliability is crazy, and it came with a lifetime powertrain warranty to boot. All for $23K brand new off the lot, I was thrilled, and 5 months later, I still look forward to driving every day lol.

    The velosters booty is wide and low so the seats and trunk are surprisingly wide and deep. The engine bay is small so there’s a lot of leg room in the front. Moving the seats forward a bit for a second passenger or third passenger (though preferably 2 max due to driver seating position. I’m 5’6” and a smaller person would be cramped sitting behind me.) I work in construction in LA. My trunk is loaded with 3 bags of tools and then some and i have some room to spare back there. The car doesn’t feel weighed down driving it though my tools aren’t that heavy. I absolutely adore it and have plans to keep it for future track days and modifications
