Tamiya 1/35 Schwimmwagen | Painting and Weathering late D.A.K. style

  • Hello Modelling Buddies,
    I got this Type 166 Schwimmwagen passed onto me as a gift by a friend, so time to paint and weather it. I would like to gain experience in all major German WWII camoflage styles, so I paint this one as a late tropical one. On a personal note: It is unlikely that this vehicle was used as part of the D.A.K., I simply don't have the refferences needed about this Vehicle in gerneral and Africa in specific.
    Anyway, it was a nice project, let me know if you enjoyed the video! See you next time!

    Another great project! The DAK colours are always interesting. And remember those tropentarn colours were also used a lot in Russia too...I have a lot of cool colour photos of this camo on sdkfz 222 and tanks and other light cars and vehicles as well. I can send you some by email if you'd like.
    I think your blending of the caked-on dust is excellent! I will try to find some of those effects to try out myself. The Africa wash I will also try to get for my Panther. I also really liked how to did the woodgrain...so I may have to borrow that technique :)

      Hello Evan, thank you very much like always. I would be glad if you can share some of your references with me, I still lack a lot these more general topic stuff - especially light vehicles... I’ll contact you via Facebook later this evening.
      Feel free to adopt any techniques you find interesting - there is no possible way for you to take more than you already gave to all of us with your tutorials ; )

    Schaut prima aus , Dein Schwimmwagen.
    Wünsch Dir noch ne gute Woche, Kai. Bis wieder. Gruß, Joachim

    I'm still waiting for this kit to come back in stock from my local supplier always liked it you can really make a nice model and it was in Africa well I've seen a real one in DAK colours and the palm trees on the sides in a museum but then again when do modelers ever trust a museum to get thing's correct eh!

    • @Tankbrusher
      @Tankbrusher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, museums... as soon as it is painted dark yellow, it attracts customers... backdated G13s , staff cars, transport vehicles ... just paint it yellow...

      @@Tankbrusher but why they put the Africa korps insignia on it just stood out to me and made me question it! It's on that TH-cam channel with that Samur museum that drives the vehicle's like round the trail out the back! I'm sure you've probably seen there video's and know what channel I'm talking about they not long had that panther A delivery the one pulled out the lake in Russia that was on a ghost train all over the world till a legal ownership was made!

    • @Tankbrusher
      @Tankbrusher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Martin, I used the AK Real Colors series: That's RAL 8020 & RAL 7027 (I didn't use the camo color). You should however check Missing Lynx first, there is a large thread compareing different brands. Thanks mate!

    It's politely work as usual. It makes Tamiya Schwimmwagen that built as it is a beautiful finish looks like actual vehicle.

    It looks like you may be experiencing a bit of tip dry when using these acrylics (part of those little imperfections you will see on your paint). They are notoriously fussy depending on the mixture of the paint and the pressure of your airbrush. Do you add a flow improver or paint retarder in your mixes? Also, you might want to spray at a slightly lower PSI (US here). Just a few observations.
    I do appreciate your work and content. You can see all of your hard work paying off in your builds and the video presentation! Thanks again!

    • @Tankbrusher
      @Tankbrusher  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Mike. You are right, I got some semi dry spray dust settling down on some areas, but more due to deflection from spraying the interior and opposite way around. If I had a choice I would have done inside and outside in seperate stages, protecting them with foam - since it was build I ignored it, a mistake from looking back at. Pressure and paint is fine. These lacquer don't need flow improver, but i got some leveling thinner arriving soon - that shound act like a bit of a retarder.

    • @mikesacklyn2372
      @mikesacklyn2372 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tankbrusher Yes!! I use Mr Leveling thinner 400 with my Tamiya paints to great effect. A drop or two of clear gloss also provides a surface ready for weathering and decals. I should have paid better attention to your paint descriptions..lol. I am constantly learning every day in this great hobby as well so my comments are never meant to disparage. A finished model is a great one! Cheers!

      Hey, I use water and dish cleaner since my H&S airbrushes are chrome plated it is enough to get all of the dirt from where a towel can't reach : ) Panzer IV door stopers? I'll need the Ausf. letter make sure I get the right reference, since I'm not an expert at all when it comes to Pz III/IV. Designing and printing is no problem at all, but shipping outside the EU is insanely expensive so it depends on where you're from.
