  • Adygea is a geographical oddity in the North Caucasus. This ethnic republic is completely surrounded by Krasnodar Krai, making it a rare example of an enclave. But this curious detail has its basis in the turbulent and tragic history of the region’s native people - the Circassians - and their relationship with the central Russian state. It's a story of distrust, war and genocide. Join me on an aimless ramble around the region's capital city, Maykop.
This is the first part of our Adygea quest. The second, and more interesting, part is here:

Hey Joseph , thank you for taking your time to visit the Circassian lands. As a Circassian who was born in the diaspora did not have any opportunity to visit the homeland - found your video pretty informative and helpful which creates the conversations about the genocide.
Thanks all the British travelers, James Bell and Edmund Spencer and Joseph Morgan eh.

Here I am, a Circassian, looking for info on ancient Maykop Culture on youtube. I happily watched the whole thing despite being reluctant at first:
I saw a few videos where westerners just repeat Russian Popaganda on "how Circassians suddenly decided to go to Turkey for holiday 150 years ago" or even worse.
Thanks for speaking the truth. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it :) yeah, the Russian state has acquired a skill for rebranding genocide over the centuries. We must call things by their names.

Thanks :) a lot of people think of Russia as a mono-ethnic slab of Slavs but there’s a lot of diversity
