- Home Office Makeover Part 1: Office Cabinets with a Secret Compartment!
These cabinets are step 1 in my Home Office Makeover. The top is a Black Walnut slab and the secret compartment is not visible unless you know exactly where to look. This was a fun build and I hope you can get inspired to build some cabinets in your office too!

I am an engineer by day and a woodworker by night... usually after the kids are in bed and before the neighbors call the cops!
I have a passion for building things out of wood and all things woodworking. I am always looking for new projects that look fun and challenging. My woodworking inspiration comes from my kids, my wife, and the forests around my house. I consider myself a serious hobbyist and I hope you can learn something and get inspired from the projects and mistakes that I make. I will also show you how I organize and work in my small shop in 1 bay of my garage. I will share videos of my past, current, and future woodworking projects with the goal of getting you out in the shop making sawdust!

Absolutely more secret compartment builds. Great job.
We definitely NEED more secret compartments. Awesome use of magnets and a drop down pull out tray.
Elaborate secret compartment mechanisms can be fun, but sometimes simple really is better. Secure and easy to implement on new or existing pieces.
I agree! Secret Compartments are super practical and cool. I don't need to build any cabinets at the moment but this gives me an idea for some existing furniture. Thanks! Great video.
Nice! I've wanted to do one for awhile and finally had the chance
Nice work! The secret compartment on the bottom is awesome (and you can never have enough secret compartments, lol)!
Yes! Exactly
Need more. Great job! Thanks
Definitely!
This is exciting
Awesome build! Definitely need secret compartments!
That is such a good hidden idea!! I may just have to utilize it on a project of my own lol. And more hidden compartments please!!
Thanks! You should!
Just wow!
Thanks!
Very cool! Please! More secret compartments! 😎😉
Everything should have a secret compartment... cabinets, dressers, TV stands, cars, trucks. The ultimate is a secret room in the house.
Oh man you know that's on my dream list... the bat cave!
Nice work
Beautiful pieces. Secret compartments are always cool!
Exactly!
Great design and looks fantastic!
Great design and build. Yes, more secret compartments. Thank you!!
this is a realllly nice build. well done.
Very nice! More secret compartments please.
Great idea!
Loved the splines and double thickness, and of course we need more hidden compartment builds
It just makes things more exciting!
Oddly "this" is how I first got into building cabinets as my friend was a "weed guy" and had lots of vinyl records so I made him a custom cabinet
to hide everything for him...in my car there were also "void" spaces for my Glock 19 and extra clips...
Love it! Very clever.
Love these! Beautiful job!
Glad you like it!
Pro quality work! Nicely done!
Thank you!
Well done. Looks great.
Thank you!
Just started as an apprentice at a custom woodworking shop in Granby CO and love the content! Going to give this design a try! Thank you and will be checking out all your content.
Thanks! Welcome aboard!
Nioce!! Very slick!!
Thanks!
Super cool build and they look nice! What guy doesn't love a secret compartment?! That's as close to Jason Bourne most of us will ever get! 😂👍💪. Love your channel.
Thanks I appreciate it!
Love all your videos. The nightstands turned out great. Love that they’re plywood and probably very heavy. I figured out your router bit shelf is a Woodsmith project. Love how yours looks in the background.
Thanks! I built that one a long time ago and couldn't remember where the plans were from.
Love the secret compartment
Thanks!
like secret compartment...awesome job
Thanks!
I really can't see a lot of need for secret compartments.
But that doesn't mean that I don't want them! Do more please! And don't keep them a secret!
They used them a lot more hundreds of years ago when the banks weren't reliable for storing valuables. Now they're just for the coolness factor!
Great video and well put together. I am glad to have found your channel. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I hope it helps
yes hidden drawers are awesome... for gum, sunglasses... and fully automatic double barrel shotguns with heat seeking missiles! whooooo!
Yes exactly! I guess I gotta make a bigger secret compartment!
Cool
You are really good man gotta upload more videos!
Thanks! I'm trying to get out more!
Can't wait for this series. I was hoping I'd see some woodworking WFH-related builds but never really did. Guess they don't have boring office day jobs like us 😂
Yeah my day job is going hybrid so I need a good setup at home long term too!
Thanks, now I have new ideas of where to look when I'm snooping through other people's houses 🤔😆
Shhhh... that's our little secret!
Good looking piece! Oh and the cabinets look great too
Haha! Thanks!
Indeed! Looks somewhat Glock-ish? A nice 17 or 19, or perhaps a 23 if you're a .40 fan? I have a variety and love to participate in the GSSF competitions.
Very cool, it's a candidate for another project sans the deluxe top, I think I'd choose hardwood or even a butcher block type top. I came up in the '70's, there were a number of things with "secret" compartments, oil cans, aerosol spray cans, etc... with a bottom that would unscrew revealing a small stash place.
I remember those too! The shaving cream can!
More secret compartments ,please
You Just made my new printer cart look like ikea garbage. Nice build
I love you.
That turned out great!! I was doing cabinet hardware recently but my wife wouldn't let me spring for the True Position jig. 😄
It's nice but yeah it's definitely not cheap!
@@EveningWoodworker I got one of those "more affordable" ones from Amazon. It works but it has its, uh, quirks. No doubt that TP is worth every penny if you are going to use it frequently!
I just discovered this channel! Awesome. Question though….I watched your video on when and when not to use pocket holes. What is the reason you’re able to use pocket holes on the bottom shelf across the grain and more than 6 inches? Thanks.
Thanks! I think what you're referring to is the bottom shelf above the secret compartment. That lower shelf is plywood so you can do pocket screws in any direction and it's pretty stable.
How much is it to use Sketchup? Is it user friendly?
Curious which paint sprayer you have? Awesome video! Secret compartments are cool :)
Thanks! It's actually just a harbor freight one that I've worked out the quirks on. I may upgrade some day!
A secret compartment would be useful for hiding my classic Nintendo games
Mmmm... Blaster Master. BreakThru... f*ck yeah! Metal Storm ooooo baby!
Brilliant!
@@FearsomeWarrior metal storm is legit!
Is the drawing available?
Love this. Do you have plans available?
Not yet, but if there's interest I may make some.
Plans would be nice.
👍
Liked the video and the design. But please tell me with multiple kids in the house you don't keep guns in a drawer only held in with magnets.
Don't worry, I keep them in a safe
Nice job!
What brand paint did you use?
And what colour?
It was Behr Ultra and the color was Ancestral
@@EveningWoodworker You're the best! Thanks so much. Love that colour.
I watched this video from a secret compartment.
Best comment so far!
nice video, as always... do you have a real gun? sorry for asking but it looks very odd for a european
Yes it's a glock- one of the more common handgun in the US. I do normally keep it in a safe too
@@EveningWoodworker I hope you never have to use it... accept a hug from across the atlantic ocean
Hopefully the kids don't watch the videos ;)
Haha don't worry, I have a safe where it normally is kept.
