I have enough trouble squaring up a board with nice power tools in a nice shop with good lighting. It blows my mind how someone could build such a beautiful work of art with hand tools.
So glad you are enjoying the masterclass videos. There are plenty more still to come. Thanks for your kind comments. Have you signed up for our e-newsletter as well? David
I get a real kick out of finding secret compartments in a piece that generations of a family probably didn't even know existed. I have yet to find any gold coins but will keep trying! David

It is even more breathtaking in real life like so many of these centuries old pieces and yet they are as useful and functioning today as the day they were made. David

Delightful. I can empathise with the husband. I've a bad habit of remembering only *that* I hid something, and not at all *where* I hid it. I'm not sure I'd ever find anything again if I owned a cabinet like that.
I still find the different ways in which these skilled makers provided hidden compartments and boxes fascinating and look forward to seeing what the next acquisition has to offer. David
@WRHarveyAntiquesLtd as a woodworker, I would be fascinated to learn how it was actually made. Do you know of any videos or books on the construction of this or other hidden compartment furniture please? Do know the name of the master craftsman? You went through the top and I really appreciate it. Are there any more below?
Many thanks for your kind comments. There may well be more hidden secrets that I have yet to discover. I do not have a maker's name for this but it is truly a masterpiece. David Harvey
@WRHarveyAntiquesLtd I have learned so much this past year about carpentry, cabinet making and construction. I'm trying to start my own woodworking business repurposing and refurbishing items to keep them out of the landfill. I really think it would be fun to make furniture with hidden compartments as my trademark. By any chance do you know of any books or websites that would help me learn the design elements of hidden compartments please?
Dear James, It was as always a pleasure to hear from you with your kind comments and i look forward to seeing you here in Witney when you are next in the UK. David
I live in America New York and I just found an English writing slope with 2 hidden drawers. I actually found it in the trash on the side of a road! If you could supply me with your email I could send you some pictures, and maybe you could tell me if its valuable? Thank you and I've enjoyed your videos
